As we enter November, I am bracing myself for the yearly online festival.

Every year, as December draws closer, more and more people slap Santa hats onto their online avatars. Companies put them on their website mascots or logos. I’ve got no issue with people wanting to be festive. But is it really necessary to put a santa hat on everything? And why only Christmas time, anyway? Should we start peppering logos and avatars with eggs and egg baskets for Easter, Turkeys and Hams for Thanksgiving? Maybe some fireworks for 4th of July?

Giving it some thought, there is one I could actually get behind- Poppies for Remembrance Day, That week, or the entire month. I think that can be done quite tastefully. And, it would reflect real-life, where we often wear poppies during our day to day (At least here in Canada)- Often for the entire month of November. Can’t imagine it’s commonplace for people to wear Santa hats arbitrarily during their day to day as Christmas approaches.
