[11:20]<veltas> Quantos: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/164795730082
[11:20]<veltas> Selling one of my oldies but goodies
[13:52]<Quantos> I bet that you get at least five people asking if it's okay for gaming
[13:52]<Quantos> veltas ^^^^
[13:57]<veltas> As good as any laptop is
[14:19]<Quantos> Heee
[14:20]<Quantos> Plays 3D Xtreme Pong at a full 300fps
[14:20]<Quantos> And Duke Nukem 3D will run on it too
[14:21]<Quantos> And Doom and Wolfenstein and Quake Arena
[14:21]<Quantos> You should advertise that and load the shareware games on it for a laugh
[14:21]<Quantos> Assuming that we could even find some of the old shareware
[14:36]<veltas> Nah selling it with nothing on hard drive
[14:36]<veltas> If I could be bothered I'd install Windows but who wants to use "some guy"'s install of Windows anyway
[14:36]<veltas> I actually used Linux on it
[14:37]<Quantos> Put something on it so that they can see it works
[14:38]<veltas> It does work, UK law. I didn't say it was "for parts" so it has to work or they can return it
[14:38]<Quantos> OH okay
[14:38]<veltas> At my expense
[14:38]<Quantos> NICE
[14:38]<veltas> Or I can just refund the cost which is probably what I would do in that situation, if I believed them
[14:38]<Quantos> Probably still a few shady ways to get around that
[14:39]<Quantos> But you aren't shady unless you happen to be sitting in it
[14:39]<Quantos> shade I mean
[14:39]<veltas> Well if I get them to return it and investigate and show proof they've damaged it intentionally then ebay decide
[14:39]<veltas> You could probably fake that
[14:39]<veltas> I think ebay tends to side with buyers
[14:39]<Quantos> I know newegg does
[14:39]<veltas> Which is good, that's how an 'accessible' online shopping platform should work
[14:40]<Quantos> I bought a cheap chinese drive just to see how bad it could be
[14:40]<Quantos> I had some trouble with it
[14:40]<Quantos> By the time I thought to try to manually align the drive newegg had refunded my money
[14:41]<Quantos> Got ahold of the seller and they aren't setup to just take money - I would've had to buy a second drive - that would still leave me with a free drive....
[14:41]<Quantos> What a bloody mess
[14:42]<Quantos> That was the Vaseky drive that I was testing a while back
[14:42]<Quantos> Put it into Candi's laptop after aligning it and it's still working amazingly well
[14:42]<veltas> I seem to remember this
[14:43]<Quantos> Yeah, I was a few days trying to troubleshoot it
[14:43]<Quantos> Been so long since I've manually aligned a drive that it didn't pop up as a possible solution for a while
[14:44]<Quantos> Hey, guess what I found
[14:44]<Quantos> I can get a lot of 4 new Sun Oracle F80 SAS PCIe drives for $600
[14:45]<Quantos> They're about 12 years old, but I can reflash the firmware and turn them into Sun Seagate Nytro drives
[14:45]<Quantos> The drives are identical, just the identifier number has to be manually changed
[14:46]<Quantos> They're a bit slower than current NVMe offerings, but they are guaranteed for petabytes of write operations
[14:46]<Quantos> As opposed to terrabytes
[14:47]<Quantos> If I put those with my xeon 1620 I can still make a pi run
[14:57]<veltas> Current NVMe stuff is as fast as DDR2 in throughput apparently
[14:58]<Quantos> In real life applications it's generally close to that
[14:58]<Quantos> The trouble is that they test that shit in perfect conditions with perfectly designed files
[14:58]<Quantos> We'll never see the bandwidth that they claim for any of them
[14:59]<veltas> Programs just aren't optimised for it
[14:59]<Quantos> Precisely
[14:59]<Quantos> So Samsung has some DDR5, get this 512GB sticks
[15:00]<Quantos> ADATA as well
[15:09]<veltas> Wonder how reliable all this stuff will be
[15:11]<Quantos> Very
[15:38]<veltas> Can't wait until every app takes up 50GB of RAM
[15:39]<veltas> Mostly taken up by the deep neural net that reads your mind while you use the program to make sure you buy a lot and don't think anything illegal
