[03:19]<Craig> Old 120MM CPU Cooler VS New 96MM CPU Cooler,
[03:20]<Craig> 120 was ~55 degrees normal
[03:20]<@jacky> I believe that in most crontab, there is a "on startup" option. But I'm not picky. Once per half hour is my normal. It's just irc. :)
[03:20]<Craig> 96 is ~40 degrees normal
[03:20]<Craig> Yeah, and almost no one is on here anymore to my knowlegel
[03:20]<@jacky> :(
[03:20]<@jacky> wait... a smaller cooler is doing a better job??
[03:21]<Craig> Yeah, before I knew how the heat pipes worked, I cut the tops off to fit them in the 4 U case,
[03:21]<Craig> they worked well for years, but I wanted to fix it.
[03:21]<Craig> No more cutting the tops off. :P
[03:21]<@jacky> I don't keep up with hardware, so all I can say is: Ok
[03:21]<@jacky> :)
[03:22]<@jacky> but 15 degrees is a lot, and percentage-wise, it is a whole lot
[03:22]<@jacky> good!
[03:22]<@jacky> :)
[03:22]<Craig> Expecially on 24 cores.
[03:22]<Craig> over two CPU's
[03:22]<Craig> with ~70GB ram
[03:22]<@jacky> wow
[03:22]<@jacky> what else does it do?
[03:22]<Craig> I now also have a 8 core 5th gen E3 with 32GB ram
[03:23]<Craig> Well, at idle its running 700 Processes, and has 5 virtual machines
[03:23]<@jacky> at idle, he says
[03:23]<@jacky> hehehee
[03:24]<Craig> Yeah its only running about 10-15% usage
[03:24]<Craig> about 80% on ram 100% of the time
[03:24]<@jacky> <yawn>
[03:24]<@jacky> heheeh
[03:24]<@jacky> wait... it is using 80% of 70G of ram ??
[03:24]<@jacky> that's using a LOT of ram, isn't it?
[03:25]<Craig> This is a dual processor E5-2620 V2,
[03:25]<@jacky> and... ?
[03:25]<Craig> Oh... weird, I am only seeing 54GB ram right now,
[03:25]<@jacky> again.. I don't keep up with hardware
[03:25]<Craig> I might have bumped one.,
[03:25]<Craig> Those are from around 2012,
[03:26]<@jacky> to me though... to use 56G of ram... is just ... wow....
[03:26]<Craig> My main computer has 32GB ram
[03:26]<Craig> and I frequently get it up to 50-70%
[03:26]<@jacky> what in the world is it doing, to use that much ram? .. whew...
[03:26]<Craig> Games, 40 tabs in chrome,
[03:26]<@jacky> wow
[03:26]<Craig> and 30 other programs running 24/7
[03:26]<@jacky> are these all 64bit machines?
[03:27]<@jacky> <Craig> and 30 other programs running 24/7 << wow...
[03:27]<Craig> The main server yes,
[03:27]<Craig> actually, they all are,
[03:27]<Craig> the main server supports up to 512 GB ram
[03:27]<Craig> You'll see the server go offline again, I need to reseat that ram
[03:28]<@jacky> a far cry from when I upgraded a DOS 6.0 machine to 4 meg of ram, huh?
[03:28]<@jacky> <Craig> You'll see the server go offline again, I need to reseat that ram << should I shut down bot, now?
[03:28]<Craig> Yeah
[03:28]<Craig> Sure if you'd like
[03:28]<@jacky> wait
[03:28]<@jacky> it will try to start again, in 2 min, if I do
[03:28]<@jacky> or
[03:28]<Craig> You can shutdown that vm if you like too
[03:29]<@jacky> would you like me to edit crontab, too?
[03:29]<@jacky> <Craig> You can shutdown that vm if you like too <<< I don't know how. If ever you told me, it might be in some notes.
[03:29]<Craig> just do reboot -h 0
[03:29]<Craig> -h is halt
[03:30]<@jacky> oh.. a restart, not a shutdown
[03:30]<@jacky> anyway
[03:30]<@jacky> hang on
[03:30]<Craig> ok

[17:45]<@jacky> and... Voila!
[17:46]<@jacky> craig works another miracle....
[17:46]<@jacky> :)
[17:46]<@jacky> Are we all done? I mean... we'll chat again, along about December?
[17:46]<@jacky> heheeheh
[17:47]<Craig> Probably,
[17:47]<Craig> Though I may move your VM to the testing server while I do things, then I don't need to talk to you.
[17:47]<Craig> HAhAHAHAHA Jk,
[17:47]<Craig> :)
[17:48]<@jacky> heheeheh
[17:48]<Craig> Hey jacky you think I should order 128GB of ram?
[17:49]<@jacky> ? go for 256
[17:49]<Craig> if I get 16 sticks of 8GB DDR3 I can double my capacity.
[17:49]<@jacky> why come out half-stepping?
[17:49]<Craig> The system supports 512.
[17:49]<Craig> thats like quarter stepping
[17:49]<Craig> Cost, this would be 300 USD
[17:49]<@jacky> go for it!
[17:49]<Craig> 256 would be around 800, and the 512 is more than I know right now.
[17:49]<@jacky> *I* wonder what that motherboard cost!
[17:50]<Craig> Origninally it was a 1500$ board, I got it for 500 Refurbed.
[17:50]<@jacky> whew
[17:50]<@jacky> refurb ... I wonder what that actually means....
[17:50]<@jacky> no moving parts... what wears out? the electrolytic caps dry out, maybe?
[17:51]<Craig> Server boards tend to be DOA, or live till it dies, so I think it was DOA with a CPU socket issue, or something similar.
[17:51]<@jacky> ah.. ok
[17:51]<Craig> On refurb it gets fully tested by Intel, and then shipped to the seller again, I bought mine from a reliable source.
[17:52]<Craig> This board was only 1 year old when I bought it.
[17:52]<@jacky> how old is it now?
[17:52]<Craig> around 8 years, I have done a LOT of upgrades to it.
[17:53]<Craig> I now have 11 drives in the machine, with two HBA cards,
[17:53]<Craig> and you know about the ram,
[17:53]<Craig> along with a 10GB SFP+ card.
[17:53]<Craig> 10Gbps*
[17:54]<@jacky> I don't keep up.. I don't even know what those things are
[17:54]<@jacky> HBA ?
[17:54]<@jacky> SFP ?
[17:54]<Craig> HBA = Host Bus Adapter - Many drives one card, no RAID controller.
[17:54]<Craig> SFP is a fibreoptic card.
[17:54]<@jacky> <Craig> I now have 11 drives in the machine, << does the mb support all that? or is it with some sort of adapter card?
[17:55]<@jacky> <Craig> SFP is a fibreoptic card. <<< it does the network interface .... to get it on the internet then?
[17:55]<@jacky> I missed a post. I see it
[17:55]<@jacky> nice
[17:55]<@jacky> :)
[17:56]<Craig> All told I have spent around 2500 on this server, maybe 3k
[17:56]<@jacky> whew....
[17:56]<@jacky> and how many more years, before it is out of date?
[17:57]<Craig> Probably never technically, at this point its a failure risk, but there is nothing on there so critical that I can't virtualize it else where.
[17:57]<@jacky> amazing
[17:58]<Craig> The age of the machine in terms of processing power is starting to show though, as the E3-1230 V5 is only .6Ghz faster, but with the DDR4 ram, is significantly faster.
[17:59]<Craig> Oh 1.3Ghz faster, sorry, however, same applies, its much faster with even less cores, as its a 4 core hyperthreaded machine, and only 32GB ram
[17:59]<Craig> Not that ChanBotIX would notice.
[18:00]<Craig> I could probably put ChanBotIX on a RaspberryPI and it would be happy.
[18:05]<@jacky> I'm glad I'm not straining you
[18:05]<@jacky> heh
[18:05]<@jacky> I'll have to put "make 4,000 bots" on my to-do list
[18:14]<Craig> I still don't think that would stress the system unless it was on a major chat channel.
[18:17]<@jacky> hmm... will have to write some sort of script then... to automate the creation of eggdrops, asit would take too long to make 50,000
[18:17]<@jacky> heh
[18:18]<@jacky> Corona-bot ! it's a virus thing
[18:18]<@jacky> heheheeh
