[16:53]<+Craig> Hey BC_Programming, how are things?
[17:18]<@BC_Programming> ok
[17:21]<+Craig> Just ok? Whats not going right?
[17:27]<@BC_Programming> WOs for damned near impossible features with 1 hour estimates
[17:47]<Quantos> Morning guys
[17:47]<+Craig> Guten Morgan
[17:48]<Quantos> LOL, I have to wonder if there are any Germans that need Guten free
[17:48]<Quantos> Okay, okay - I'll go stand in the corner for that one
[17:48]<+Craig> :P
[17:48]<+Craig> That was pretty lame
[17:48]<Quantos> Lamer than usual
[17:49]<+Craig> Not sure, haven't talked in ages,
[17:49]<Quantos> LOL, it has been a while hasn't it
[17:49]<+Craig> Yup
[17:49]<Quantos> How are you doing?
[17:49]<+Craig> Busy, :P
[17:49]<Quantos> Excellent, glad to hear it
[17:49]<Quantos> Busy puts food in your belly
[17:50]<+Craig> No it irritates me, because my business model thrives on non-busy,
[17:50]<Quantos> Oh
[17:50]<Quantos> Like mine does
[17:50]<Quantos> 9am arrive at work and nap
[17:50]<+Craig> I do Managed Services, so the less busy I am the more profitable,
[17:50]<+Craig> :)
[17:50]<Quantos> 10am make sure it's still morning, go back to sleep
[17:51]<Quantos> Managed services? I'll have to look that up
[17:51]<Quantos> Well, in that case you need to master the art of procrastination Craig
[17:52]<Quantos> You've never been less busy than you would be if I teach youy
[17:52]<Quantos> you
[17:52]<Quantos> For example, I was going to procrastinate this morning, but I decided to wait until tomorrow
[18:04]<Quantos> Craig, not sure if the wiki is talking about what you do
[18:04]<Quantos> You outsource things?
[18:04]<Quantos> Or you are who they outsource to?
[18:04]<+Craig> Not sure what you mean, or what wiki you're talking about?
[18:04]<Quantos> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Managed_services
[18:05]<+Craig> Customers purchase services from me, and I manage their IT for them.
[18:05]<Quantos> Oooh
[18:05]<Quantos> Nice
[18:06]<Quantos> So depending on what they need/want it could be remote or onsite then?
[18:06]<+Craig> Most of the time yes,
[18:07]<Quantos> Nice, sounds like a blast - assuming that you do get to have fun at work
[18:07]<Quantos> How long have you been doing that?
[18:07]<+Craig> Most of the time, There is still much I need to learn
[18:07]<Quantos> I take it you're self employed
[18:08]<+Craig> Yeah
[18:09]<Quantos> So do you do much work with firewalls and that sort of thing as well?
[18:09]<+Craig> Generally I manage everything about an office's IT needs.
[18:09]<Quantos> Okay, so security too
[18:09]<+Craig> As much as I understand, yeah
[18:09]<Quantos> That's a great service actually
[18:10]<Quantos> There are so many small companies that can't afford an IT dept
[18:10]<+Craig> Except they figure they cannot afford me either. :p
[18:10]<@BC_Programming> Some of our customers don't have one and we basically become their IT
[18:10]<Quantos> Heya BC
[18:10]<@BC_Programming> And even the ones that do for some reason they still call us half the time
[18:11]<Quantos> They just like putting food on your table
[18:11]<Quantos> :D
[18:11]<@BC_Programming> well they'd be paying the yearly support the same either way
[18:11]<Quantos> Yeah, no freebies allowed, not good for business
[18:12]<@BC_Programming> but we're supposed to support the *software* not play telephone trying to figure out who actually has admin rights
[18:12]<+Craig> You can always push them my way, you'd be surprised what I can fix. :P
[18:12]<@BC_Programming> "Oh I think Carol does, here's her number" ... (Uh, why can't you just ask her....)
[18:12]<+Craig> Do it for me is very, very popular...
[18:12]<Quantos> Have you mapped out the phone schematic yet BC?
[18:12]<@BC_Programming> "No I don't have admin, but I think Nancy does"
[18:13]<+Craig> Right?
[18:13]<@BC_Programming> And then after an hour you find out the only person with admin is on vacation or something
[18:13]<Quantos> Nice
[18:13]<+Craig> Yeah, thats frustrating. :P Except you can get ahold of me even in Mexico. :P
[18:13]<Quantos> So you then mail them a little envelope full of weaponized anthrax
[18:13]<Quantos> BC ^^^
[18:14]<Quantos> Of course they don't sign the check too easily while sick I suppose
[18:14]<@BC_Programming> We have an admin account- but, it's only on the server not the workstations
[18:14]<@BC_Programming> My favourite is when they DO have IT and then IT makes changes that break our software
[18:14]<@BC_Programming> like randomly deciding that temporary files are "insecure" and denying access to the temporary folder
[18:15]<Quantos> I was working for one company part time once, just helping out a friend
[18:15]<@BC_Programming> So then we make a change to the software and implement a workaround and I can't help but think- wouldn't a malware author just do the same thing?
[18:15]<Quantos> They had a proprietary POS system that didn't work well with the report generator
[18:15]<Quantos> So I was looking at the switches and figured it out, called the company and gave them the fix
[18:16]<Quantos> They wanted my information, they actually mailed me $500 for finding a solution
[18:16]<Quantos> BC, that's a heck of a parallel to draw with the malware
[18:17]<Quantos> Probably pretty accurate
[18:18]<@BC_Programming> Like we found a workaround that let our software work. Is a malware author going to go "darn, temporary files are restricted, well, golly gee whiz guess I can't do nothing to workaround that"
[18:18]<Quantos> LMAO
[18:18]<@BC_Programming> years ago I had an exe that had the string SOFTWARE\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and it was flagged as malware.... so I just reversed the string in the data and reversed it when it was running and it was no longer flagged
[18:18]<Quantos> It would be a really shortlived need for AV software
[18:19]<Quantos> LOL
[18:23]<Quantos> Aw crap, I have to find someone that does brazing
[18:23]<Quantos> Just broke the lampshade connection
[18:23]<Quantos> No idea what to call it
[18:24]<@BC_Programming> I've noticed history is obsessed with video games
[18:24]<@BC_Programming> The sega of this, the sega of that....
[18:24]<Quantos> Really?
[18:24]<@BC_Programming> historical segas
[18:24]<Quantos> Those greeks and romans were big into them I guess
[18:24]<@BC_Programming> oh wait, that is saga
[18:24]<Quantos> Saga Genesis
[18:25]<Quantos> Speaking of which, how the eff did Moses get lost in the desert for 40 years
[18:25]<@BC_Programming> Sega of Tanya the Evil. Why was hers so special? was it a Model I
[18:25]<Quantos> Israel and Egypt share a border damn it
[18:25]<Quantos> A blind man could've found it in 40 years
[18:26]<@BC_Programming> not a lot of landmarks to be fair
[18:26]<@BC_Programming> "Didn't we see this sand dune last year?"
[18:26]<Quantos> Heeee
[18:26]<Quantos> And that pillar of smoke/fire didn't help, God didn't even know the right direction
[18:27]<Quantos> Rant is done now
[18:31]<+Craig> Moses wasn't lost,
[18:31]<+Craig> They were lead through the desert by God, wondering because of their unfaithfulness.
[18:31]<Quantos> This is what I've accomplished so far since the move https://imgur.com/GzvpdS6
[18:31]<+Craig> They turned from God, and were punished.
[18:32]<Quantos> I know, I just prefer to be the fucking smartass in a channel
[18:32]<Quantos> Sorry chanbot
[18:32]<+Craig> Hahaha, Chanbot is still on top of things I see, :P
[18:32]<+Craig> He can't block me though, :P
[18:32]<Quantos> Heeee, just made me his bitch
[18:32] * Quantos was kicked by ChanBotIX (Bad word detected. (*bitch*) :: [Mon Nov 4 18:32:44 2019] - Banned 0 minutes -114-)
[18:32] * Quantos (Quantos@mib-A44A191.ipv6.telus.net) has joined #glitchpc
[18:32]<+Craig> BAHAHAAHAHAH
[18:32]<Quantos> LOL
[18:32]<@BC_Programming> I like the "carry this Ark but don't look inside it " and they were like "hey let's look inside it"
[18:33]<Quantos> Yeah
[18:33]<+Craig> They didn't try to open it,
[18:33]<Quantos> Nothing like reverse psychology
[18:33]<+Craig> besides, they knew what was inside,
[18:33]<+Craig> because they not only built it, but Moses put the stuff in there.
[18:33]<Quantos> Yes, but was the cat dead or alive?
[18:33]<+Craig> All of the stuff was dead, except the tree branch,
[18:34]<@BC_Programming> "What are you doing Moses" "I call it the Moses Cat experiment"
[18:34]<+Craig> Hahaha,
[18:34]<Quantos> Let's put star trek red shirt guy #3 in the box to test with....
[18:35]<@BC_Programming> The sacred chalice of reeks
[18:35]<Quantos> Reeks like hell damnit
[18:35]<+Craig> I always thought that was a strange name for a wooden cup that was mouldy as Dianna said,
[18:36]<Quantos> Now the picture I posted doesn't look like I did much, but it was an easy 12 hours getting the drawers back into the danged desk
[18:36]<Quantos> The middle rail came out with the drawers and it was tricky figuring out how they went back in
[18:38]<@BC_Programming> that's what she said
[18:40]<+Craig> Hey BC, when do you think you'll have time to look at that software more?
[18:43]<@BC_Programming> Can't do anything with it without a developer license for the Truegrid control, which I don't think is possible anymore, and even with that, much of the functionality is wrapped up in those DOS programs. Being able to generate a reg code is probably the best we can do
[18:43]<+Craig> You know what I've never seen, a guy who works on printers, that really understands the issues better than I do. They once in a while have a trick, but they are basically troubleshooting the same way I do...
[18:43]<+Craig> Alright, well thanks for looking at it BC_Programming
[18:43]<@BC_Programming> What about Receipt Printers?
[18:44]<+Craig> Not much different from normal printers from what I've seen, really.
[18:44]<@BC_Programming> Depends on the software, directly interacting with them requires something like OPOS
[18:44]<+Craig> I mean this guy is working on the Konika Minolta at a customers office, and is basically just trying to print test pages, but only looking at the port settings, which doesnt seem to be fixing anything...
[18:44]<Quantos> Question, are receipt printers thermal or laser?
[18:44]<@BC_Programming> though you can fake it with Windows drivers
[18:44]<+Craig> Depends on the type, they both are in use,
[18:45]<Quantos> Oh, I didn't know that
[18:45]<@BC_Programming> Quantos: Most are thermal, but there are laser and even inkjet receipt printers
[18:45]<Quantos> Inkjet too?
[18:45]<Quantos> Wow
[18:45]<Quantos> Those must be almost useless
[18:45]<Quantos> A guy I know that owns a paint store still uses his old oki dot matrix
[18:46]<@BC_Programming> I've never actually seen anything but thermal myself, and I don't think any of our customers are using anything but thermal for receipts
[18:46]<+Craig> OKI still produce DotMatrix still, and they are widely used.
[18:47]<+Craig> Also, Oki actually have some nice printers,
[18:47]<Quantos> Yeah, they do
[18:47]<Quantos> They've gotten really quiet compared to what they were
[18:47]<Quantos> And pretty snappy too
[18:49]<@BC_Programming> The noise makes it sound busy
[18:49]<+Craig> Right?
[18:49]<@BC_Programming> Like "Dot matrix print this document" "OH boy let's do this all over I've got pins and needles"
[18:49]<+Craig> OKI actually makes a pretty light driver too,
[18:49]<@BC_Programming> and laser was like "yeah ok I guess I'll roll that out"
[18:49]<Quantos> I tried that on the job site once, the foreman just smacked me and yelled to get back to work
[18:51]<@BC_Programming> Nobody is going to ask why I have a 700 dollar receipt printer then?
[18:51]<Quantos> I can't see it from here
[18:51]<Quantos> I'll make you feel better though - why do you have a receipt printer?
[18:52]<@BC_Programming> oh I thought I mentioned it, lol
[18:52]<@BC_Programming> that makes it funnier
[18:52]<Quantos> Heeee
[18:52]<@BC_Programming> It's for testing
[18:52]<Quantos> Fucking nerd porn, hilarious
[18:52]<Quantos> Sorry bot
[18:52]<@BC_Programming> not actually mine, borrowed it from our office
[18:53]<Quantos> Oh okay
[18:53]<Quantos> I thought you were self employed BC?
[18:53]<+Craig> hahaha, I have like 800$ worth of printers in my office,
[18:53]<@BC_Programming> No, Not me
[18:53]<Quantos> Oh
[18:53]<+Craig> You could think of him as a senior engineer though, as there are only three on the team :P
[18:53]<+Craig> Him being the youngest.
[18:53]<@BC_Programming> I'm not the youngest
[18:54]<Quantos> Wait, there's someone older than BC out there?
[18:54]<+Craig> no?
[18:54]<+Craig> Bahaha
[18:54]<+Craig> Of the programmers?
[18:54]<Quantos> Pretty sure he was Noah's helper on a construction site
[18:54]<+Craig> oooo
[18:54] * Quantos runs and hides behind Craig
[18:55]<+Craig> No reason to do that, BC's not that dangerous,
[18:55]<@BC_Programming> If saying "hey, Noah, should both lions have manes" makes me his helper than sure
[18:55]<+Craig> HAHAHAH
[18:55]<Quantos> LMAO
[18:56]<@BC_Programming> Everybody knows you need a female Lion if you want to hatch any Lion eggs
[18:58]<@BC_Programming> Youngest programmer I think is 25, was hired at the same time as I was
[18:59]<Quantos> I've decided that I'm 25
[18:59]<@BC_Programming> oldest is in his 50's and mostly maintains the old software, I don't think he even has access to the new software SVN
[18:59]<Quantos> Plus shipping and handling
[18:59]<@BC_Programming> I'm 5. 2 to the power of, that is.
[19:00]<Quantos> You're only 25?
[19:00]<Quantos> I thought you were older than that?
[19:00]<@BC_Programming> 2 to the power of 5 is 32...
[19:00]<Quantos> Oh, had the expression reversed
[19:01]<@BC_Programming> Let that be a lesson to you, not be good reversing expressions no
[19:03]<+Craig> HAH! I am the oldest here unless Jacky joins,
[19:03]<+Craig> Old hag he is...
[19:03]<@BC_Programming> I've been selling a lot of YUM YUM PRAWN AND CRAB BAIT for testing. We only have -300 left in stock
[19:03]<+Craig> Hahaha
[19:04]<@BC_Programming> I'm also concerned because the name makes it sound delicious
[19:04]<Quantos> You figure that you're older than me Craig?
[19:05]<+Craig> Possibly,
[19:05]<Quantos> 52
[19:05]<+Craig> Ahhh no...
[19:05]<+Craig> :P
[19:05]<Quantos> https://imgur.com/a9csk71
[19:05]<@BC_Programming> You don't look a day under 70
[19:05]<Quantos> safe for work
[19:08]<Quantos> So I was handed a laptop that doesn't work, I just have to wonder if neglect is the cause
[19:08]<Quantos> https://imgur.com/S8OeI1V
[19:08]<Quantos> The filthiest laptop I've ever worked on
[19:09]<@BC_Programming> did you try clearing the cache
[19:09]<Quantos> Yeah, that does look a LOT like sand
[19:09]<Quantos> Heeee
[19:09]<Quantos> I opened it and closed it and told her she needs a new laptop
[19:09]<Quantos> I'm not working on that
[19:27]<Quantos> Oh oh oh
[19:27]<Quantos> You guys need to see this halloween costume https://imgur.com/62F4Lye
[19:27]<Quantos> It's amazing
[19:29]<+Craig> Yeah, its totally a cache thing...
[19:31]<Quantos> I wish I had a cache problem
[19:31]<Quantos> Other than the cache problem I have now I mean
[19:33]<+Craig> You mean the Cash problem?
[19:34]<Quantos> Yeah, I so rarely have it that I can't spell it
[19:34]<+Craig> Right?
[19:34]<+Craig> :P
[19:34]<Quantos> Heeee
[19:35]<+Craig> I have a printer issue that is beyond frustrating...
[19:35]<Quantos> I bet a deer slug would fix it
[19:35]<+Craig> BAHAHAHAHA right?
[19:35]<+Craig> I wish
[19:36]<Quantos> The cops show up, look around, well his printer deserved it, looks like clear cut self defense to me
[19:36]<Quantos> YAY, I just got out of helping my roommate move
[19:37]<Quantos> I'm that good baby
