[17:28]<guest_65> hi there am new on this forum. do u guys assist with computers?
[17:33]<@jacky> guest_65: Hello
[17:33]<@jacky> guest_65: this is a group of friends, and yes... if you happen to catch them around the keyboard (here, live) they'll share what they know, in an effort to answer legit questions
[17:34]<@jacky> feel free to stick around
[17:34]<@jacky> and post your question... if somebody sees it... when somebody sees it, that's when you'll get a response
[17:34]<@jacky> :)
[17:40]<guest_65> hello jacky, and thanks for the welcome. i have a win 10 laptop, and recently my charger stopped working since there seems to be a crack in the charging jack is there any way for the charging jack to be repaired? thanks in advance for the assistance
[17:41]<@jacky> my guess is that you need to take it to a couple laptop repair places, and get advice, and compare
[17:41]<@jacky> is the crack in the laptop itself, or on the charger side?
[17:42]<guest_65> its in the laptop itself, i believe the charger side is fine. the little slot in which the charger goes into has a small crack in it
[17:43]<guest_65> im almost positive thats why my pc is not able to charge
[17:43]<@jacky> do you know of a reliable laptop / computer repair shop nearby?
[17:44]<@jacky> brb
[17:46]<guest_65> i think i do have one nearby, oh ok np
[17:46]<@jacky> there are a couple guys here that would just take it apart themselves
[17:46]<@jacky> camerongray is one
[17:46]<@jacky> but, laptops - I think - are a bit trickier than desktops, to doctor on
[17:46]<@jacky> stick around
[17:47]<@jacky> maybe camerongray will surface. :)
[17:47]<@jacky> guest_65: what country are you in?
[17:47]<guest_65> aah i see, yeah i can tell laptops are a bit tricker, i am in the USA
[17:48]<@jacky> so am I
[17:48]<@jacky> camerongray is in Europe
[17:48]<@jacky> here, there are a lot of little shops around
[17:50]<guest_65> oh wow, yeah to be precise im in NYC, this is the first time ive ever ran into an issue like this. i think my power jack might have come loose but couldn't be positive. do u recommend i take my laptop a repair shop
[17:50]<@jacky> that's what I recommend, unless you are good with taking small things apart carefully
[17:50]<@jacky> I'd take it to a couple, and get estimates
[17:51]<@jacky> because it is easy to find a wanna-be that is really a know-nothing
[17:51]<@jacky> heheehe
[17:51]<@jacky> and it is up to you, to discern the difference
[17:51]<guest_65> i think im better off taking it to the shop lol, i am not good with taking small things apart i'd probably damage it further
[17:52]<@jacky> then yes. to a shop
[17:52]<@jacky> unless you have friends that can recommend one from their own experience... take it to a couple
[17:52]<@jacky> get estimates
[17:52]<@jacky> :)
[17:52]<@jacky> listen. decide if they sound like idiots, or good people
[17:52]<@jacky> hehehe
[17:52]<guest_65> lol, will do
[17:53]<@jacky> feel free to stick around
[17:53]<@jacky> I'm floating in and out for a while.
[17:54]<@jacky> and you don't HAVE to, but if you want to fix your nick, just use the /nick command
[17:54]<@jacky> to change your nick to something else
[17:54]<guest_65> oh thanks for the suggestioin, yeah this guest nick seems a bit odd lol
[17:55]<guest_65> trying to think of what to change my nick to
[17:55]<@jacky> !info *
[17:55]<@jacky> forgot..
[17:55]<@jacky> !say *
[17:55]<@jacky> !say *nick*
[17:55]<@jacky> ug.. must have lost it in one of the moves
[17:55]<@jacky> dammit
[17:55]<@jacky> heehehe
[17:56]<@jacky> was looking for something in a bot, is all
[17:56]<guest_65> aah i see, sorry i am very new to irc channels
[17:56]<@jacky> <guest_65> trying to think of what to change my nick to <<< don't worry too much.. you can just change it again
[17:56]<@jacky> after a while, if you stick around, you get so you want to use the same nick daily
[17:56]<@jacky> that's when you want to "register" it so you can access if via a password, and keep others from using it.
[17:57]<@jacky> <guest_65> aah i see, sorry i am very new to irc channels <<< it's a very old communications medium. Very handy though
[17:57]<@jacky> questions: how did you even find IRC then?
[17:57]<@jacky> and... how did you find this channel?
[17:57]<@jacky> just curious
[17:59]<guest_65> oh makes sense, because when i entered the chat i found myself as guest_65. yeah when i was looking up computer support i found glitchpc as one of the computer help forums so i thought of joining here, sounds like a pretty neat channel
[17:59]<@jacky> it is
[18:00]<@jacky> the amount of activity varies dramatically though
[18:00]<guest_65> have u been around here for awhile
[18:00]<@jacky> years
[18:00]<@jacky> heehe
[18:00]<@jacky> irc itself, in general? 25 years, I guess. I come and I go though
[18:00]<guest_65> when u say the amount of activity varies, does that mean at times theres not much going on at all
[18:00]<@jacky> correct
[18:00]<@jacky> you are welcome to join here an just lurk about though
[18:01]<@jacky> see what they are doing, right now? heheehehehehe
[18:01]<guest_65> lol, who is they?
[18:01]<@jacky> do you see other nicknames here?
[18:01]<@jacky> I don't know what you are using for a client, to be here...
[18:02]<@jacky> on mine, there is a column of names, on the right side of this window box
[18:02]<guest_65> think im using the mibbit client
[18:02]<@jacky> a web page thing?
[18:02]<@jacky> brb
[18:02]<guest_65> oh yes, now i see what your referring to. np will be right here
[18:04]<@jacky> have fun
[18:04]<@jacky> :)
[18:05]<guest_65> thanks for welcoming me into the channel, it was nice meeting u jacky
[18:05]<@jacky> nice meeting you too
[18:05]<@jacky> :)
[18:20]<guest_65> hey jacky if ur still there am i allowed to ask u something real quick?
[18:20]<@jacky> sure
[18:21]<guest_65> my laptop is about to die out so if i were to shut it down would i still be in the channel or no
[18:22]<@jacky> eventually the IRC server would figure out that you are not there, and you'd show up here as being disconnected
[18:22]<@jacky> put it this way... this is a desktop. I have it set to go to sleep after a half hour (sometimes)
[18:22]<@jacky> I can come back, wake it up after it has been to sleep only a few minutes, and often my connection here is still solid
[18:22]<@jacky> but after hours? nope... gone.
[18:22]<@jacky> I hope that helps to explain it
[18:23]<@jacky>
[18:23]<guest_65> oh that makes sense thanks so much, am i allowed to return back here another day?
[18:23]<@jacky> guest_65: just remember how you managed to get to the mibbit irc network
[18:23]<@jacky> and once here, all you have to do is type: /join #glitchpc to get into this channel
[18:23]<@jacky> the leading / makes it a command
[18:24]<@jacky> and the # is necessary before any channel name. thus: /join #glitchpc
[18:24]<@jacky> and presto... you'll be in here again
[18:24]<@jacky> nothing to it
[18:24]<@jacky> :)
[18:24]<@jacky> am i allowed to return back here another day? <<< Sure
[18:24]<guest_65> oh thanks for the steps, so the / is a command used for this channel
[18:24]<@jacky> no
[18:24]<@jacky> a / as the first character makes what follows a command
[18:25]<@jacky> it is not specific to THIS channel
[18:25]<@jacky> that's typical of all irc networks
[18:25]<@jacky> do this: /join #eggdrop
[18:25]<@jacky> and you'll join that channel, right now
[18:25]<@jacky> I'm there.. go ahead.. for a demonstration
[18:25]<guest_65> aah i see, ok will do
[18:25]<@jacky> try it now
