[23:36]<+Guest15805> BC_Programming: Ahh, that sucks, was it not a configurable option?
[23:36] * Guest15805 is now known as camerongray
[23:37]<@BC_Programming> It probably was
[23:37]<+camerongray> ahh :P
[23:37]<+camerongray> Not sure if they would let you return it
[23:37]<@BC_Programming> given I had to go through the config pages about 5 times before I actually got it to go through I evidently missed it on my last run
[23:37]<@BC_Programming> nah the actual keyboard keys still work as the standard layout, they just have weird labels
[23:37]<+camerongray> Although given it's a ThinkPad it's probably dead easy to swap out, it certainly is on my T440s
[23:37]<+camerongray> Ahh cool
[23:38]<@BC_Programming> Del is Suppr, Print Screen is ImpEc
[23:38]<+camerongray> In Canada do you use the proper ISO layout or that stupid ANSI one? :P
[23:38]<@BC_Programming> I don't know, this thinkpad has the oversized return key though
[23:38]<@BC_Programming> I think that is ISO?
[23:39]<+camerongray> Ahh, that's the proper ISO one :P
[23:39]<+camerongray> I can't stand ANSI!
[23:39]<@BC_Programming> I don't even know the difference
[23:39]<+camerongray> Mainly the enter key
[23:39]<+camerongray> And where backslash is located
[23:39]<@BC_Programming> on this keyboard (Model M) backslash is over the enter key, the enter key is the same height as backspace
[23:40]<+camerongray> Yeah, that's ANSI
[23:40]<+camerongray> What is amusing is where people are discusing keyboards you get Americans who don't understand what ISO is
[23:40]<@BC_Programming> well all I know about is the return key being taller
[23:40]<+camerongray> Including classics like "I don't see why everyone wants <keyboard model> in an ISO layout, ANSI is the standard layout"
[23:41]<+camerongray> They usually don't respond when someone points out that ISO stands for International Standards Organisation :P
[23:41]<@BC_Programming> (Though of course that being taller means the slash needs to move)
[23:41] * Nat (nathan@mib-9777B5D6.lightspeed.irvnca.sbcglobal.net) has joined #glitchpc
[23:41]<+camerongray> Yeah
[23:41]<@BC_Programming> it looks like some of the keys aren't labelled properly because of the difference, but I'll no doubt memorize them
[23:42]<@BC_Programming> the key labelled > < } on three lines is a backslash and one labelled with a capital accent E and a accent mark is the forward slash
[23:42]<+camerongray> Basically ISO is what most of the world uses, ANSI is common in the US and then Canada it seems
[23:43]<@BC_Programming> my L300 is ISO apparently
[23:43]<@BC_Programming> never even noticed lol
[23:43]<+camerongray> I just can't get on with ANSI, I'm too used to just hitting randomly on the enter key so using ANSI causes me to put backslashes everywhere
[23:43]<@BC_Programming> Return spans two rows and backspace is right above it
[23:43]<+camerongray> Yeah
[23:44]<@BC_Programming> I never noticed so evidently it hasn't caused me issues going back and forth which I find a bit odd
[23:44]<+camerongray> I could probably get used to it if I had to but it is a bit of a pain
[23:45]<@BC_Programming> I upgraded to 8.1 Pro with a MSDN key and now I'm installing Visual Studio... already removed some of the trash Lenovo includes
[23:45]<+camerongray> The most annnoying one is the Apple UK keyboard which is an ISO keyboard with a £ on the 3 key where it should be but the rest is the same as the US layout
[23:45]<+camerongray> Which means that the £ displaces # which therefore has no key
[23:46]<@BC_Programming> I see a £ on my thinkpads keyboard, it has / 3 and £ on them
[23:47]<@BC_Programming> and I have to copy-paste £ since that isn't on a key for me, which probably makes sense
[23:47]<+camerongray> Ahh, that's really strange
[23:47]<@BC_Programming> but it makes #
[23:47]<+camerongray> Ahh yeah
[23:47]<@BC_Programming> and 3 of course
[23:47]<@BC_Programming> looking at the list it's some Canadian French layout
[23:48]<+camerongray> In other news I've switched from KDE to trying the i3 Tiling Window Manager - It's strangely nice
[23:48]<@BC_Programming> it probably got defaulted to that because Canada
[23:48]<@BC_Programming> hmm I have too backslash keys, weird
[23:48]<+camerongray> Was it a W550 you went for again>
[23:48]<@BC_Programming> T550
[23:49]<+camerongray> Ahh, that's a pain - I have a T4** ANSI layout keyboard here spare :P
[23:49]<+camerongray> Doesn't have a numpad though so wouldn't work for you
[23:50]<@BC_Programming> the key next to the left shift key with angle brackets and what appears to be a degree sign makes a backslash
[23:50]<@BC_Programming> actually that's good, it's in the same place as the same key on my L300
[23:51]<@BC_Programming> No Pause/Break key, allegedly I can use Fn+B for the same function
[23:51]<+camerongray> Ahh yeah, mine doesn't have that either
[23:52]<@BC_Programming> interesting as I was just talking about that with my co-workers the other day
[23:53]<+camerongray> The only annoying thing that I've found is that after moving to i3 I use the windows key to control the WM whereas I used to use that as a Compose key
[23:53]<+camerongray> Can't think of any other keys I have on this that would work as Compose unless I maybe used CapsLock
[23:53]<@BC_Programming> the resolution is ridiculous on this
[23:53]<+camerongray> haha yeah
[23:53]<@BC_Programming> 2880x1620, higher than my desktop monitor lol
[23:54]<+camerongray> My laptop is 1080p and I struggle with it :P
[23:54]<@BC_Programming> my L300 is 1280x800 as I recall
[23:54]<@BC_Programming> hahaha I just noticed
[23:55]<@BC_Programming> the dot on the i in the thinkpad logo on the back of the screen is a LED
[23:55]<+camerongray> Yep!
[23:55]<+camerongray> They also rotated it so its the right way up when looking at the back of the machine
[23:55]<+camerongray> You can imagine the fanboys that that pissed off "They are turning it into a crappy consumer machine because people can read the logo when you are using it"
[23:56]<+camerongray> I do love some of the Fanboy arguments in the ThinkPad community which are generally ignored or told to stop moaning
[23:57]<+camerongray> My favourite being "They have a 16:9 screen, the 4:3 on my T60 is so much better" and then they all obsess over 4:3 screens
[23:57]<@BC_Programming> on the reddit they were talking about how they had an "old" T440
[23:58]<@BC_Programming> I'd still be using my 755CDV if it didn't die!
[23:58]<+camerongray> Meanwhile I'm sitting there like (a) Half of your 4:3 screens have less vertical height than a modern 1080p screen, put tape over the edges and pretend it's 4:3 and (b) I quite like having two things side by side
[23:58]<@BC_Programming> what is a smartcard
[23:58]<@BC_Programming> I could google but IRC is easier
[23:59]<+camerongray> A card with a chip on it like a bank card
[23:59]<+camerongray> can be used to either auth with the machine as some sort of 2 factor thing
[23:59]<@BC_Programming> yeah I guess I should have just read the next page in the manual lol
[23:59]<+camerongray> Or they can hold stuff like keys used for things like disk encryption
