[15:37]<@BC_Programming> oh great
[15:38]<@BC_Programming> well, guess I can't buy anything off ebay anymore
[15:39]<@BC_Programming> seems my mailperson is dyslexic or something, I have a crapload of mail from Street address 5331 (I'm 5531), so I'm guessing that my Processor was delivered to 5331
[15:43]<Nat> BC_Programming: screw that
[15:43]<+camerongray> Ahh, ouch, surely you can claim a refund or whatever
[15:43]<@BC_Programming> It get's delivered to a mailbox, but it says "Item successfully delivered" in the Canada Post Tracking
[15:44]<@BC_Programming> which is what the sender will be told, because it was "successfully delivered"... just to the wrong address
[15:44]<+camerongray> Ahh, worth contacting the postal service though
[15:44]<@BC_Programming> Probably
[15:44]<@BC_Programming> but I'll go to 5331 and see if they got my mail, then we can trade
[15:44]<+camerongray> haha, yeah
[15:45]<@BC_Programming> Well assuming they've checked their mail recently
[15:45]<+camerongray> I used to have that a lot
[15:46]<+camerongray> I used to live in "Sciennes Road" but there was a street just called "Sciennes" that ran perpendicular to it
[15:46]<+camerongray> Mail constantly went to the wrong place
[15:46]<+camerongray> Worst of all, the address it kept going to was student acommodation so it would go to an office and therefore just get signed for no matter what name it was, at least I could tell them that they had the wrong address
[15:47]<+camerongray> Even more annoying when they didn't even seem to check the address on what they were getting as they woudl clearly see that it was wrong
[15:49]<+camerongray> And the same glorious courier responsible for this (http://www.itv.com/news/meridian/update/2014-08-11/delivery-driver-leaves-parcel-stuck-on-a-roof/) could never tell the difference between 13 and 18
[15:50]<@BC_Programming> just remembered I left the magazine behind
[15:50]<@BC_Programming> turns out it was just the magazine that was the wrong address
[15:50]<@BC_Programming> the fun part is that it turns out that we've been getting all sorts of the wrong mail
[15:51]<@BC_Programming> 5631, 5331, etc.
[15:51]<@BC_Programming> So it stands to reason that my Processor, since it claims it was delivered already could be any number of places
[15:51]<+camerongray> haha
[15:52]<+camerongray> I had to phone a courier before and try and get him to describe the address he had delivered it to
[15:52]<@BC_Programming> I'll try the place this magazine was supposed to go
[15:52]<@BC_Programming> at least they'll have their mail
[15:52]<@BC_Programming> I suspect it is only a part-time mailman possibly, so maybe if I order carefully I can get it delivered earlier in the week
[15:52]<+camerongray> Same one who I got to ship my server, first thing the guy does is pick up the box (giant 1m long thing with FRAGILE and HP printed all over it" and chucks it over onto the concrete
[16:00] * Nat (nathan@mib-6AA455C8.airbears2.berkeley.edu) Quit (Client exited)
[16:02]<@BC_Programming> hahaha
[16:02]<@BC_Programming> wow that is complete BS
[16:03]<+camerongray> Yeah, most couriers are useless
[16:03]<@BC_Programming> hah no, I decided to try to open a ticket/complain online on the Canadapost website
[16:03]<@BC_Programming> go through the form
[16:03]<@BC_Programming> press submit
[16:03]<@BC_Programming> "We are unable to proceed with your Service Ticket because our records indicate the item has been delivered"
[16:03]<@BC_Programming> well yeah, no shit. That's the problem...
[16:03]<+camerongray> Oh wow
[16:04]<@BC_Programming> Guess I'll have to phone 'em up
[18:14]<@BC_Programming> heh
[18:14]<@BC_Programming> well that problem sorted itself out
[18:14]<@BC_Programming> checked the mail again for no reason and there it was... whew
[18:15]<@BC_Programming> I guess they scanned it as delivered before it actually was, tssk tssk
[18:18]<+camerongray> I've had that before with couriers that give a one hour slot
[18:18]<+camerongray> I presume by doing that they avoid it flagging up as being late
[18:19]<+camerongray> That is of course until I phone them and go mental (it actually got delivered when I was on the phone complaining)
[18:19]<@BC_Programming> lol
[18:19]<@BC_Programming> thankfully I avoided that embarassment
[18:20]<@BC_Programming> I still don't get Intel's naming scheme. the QX6200 was better than the Q8200?
[18:22]<@BC_Programming> heh barely much better, but at least now that system will have the best CPU it supports...
[20:13]<@BC_Programming> haha seems I can't use this CPU after all
[20:13]<@BC_Programming> it 'works' but it also runs at 80c
[20:14]<@BC_Programming> I thought I was putting the heatsink on poorly but I tried three times- same result, assuming it didn't have an instant thermal shutdown
[20:16]<+camerongray> Hmm, what CPU is this?
[20:17]<@BC_Programming> Qx6700 Core 2 Extreme
[20:17]<+camerongray> Ahh, hmm
[20:17]<+camerongray> Very strange
[20:18]<+camerongray> Tempted to get a Q6600 for my Optiplex 755 that I use as my bedroom HTPC
[20:18]<+camerongray> Currently has an E4500
[20:18]<+camerongray> It's a really nice machine
[20:18]<@BC_Programming> I guess I could get an aftermarket cooler lol
[20:18]<+camerongray> Slightly less powerful than the Athlon II x2 250 system I had before but far nicer
[20:19]<+camerongray> Got both for free, the AMD one was fast but was a classic small PC store build - I put a safe PSU in it but it was still a horrible cheap case so you could hear the CPU fan quite a bit
[20:19]<+camerongray> The Optiplex is totally silent
[20:19]<@BC_Programming> Stock cooler works for me so far. Would be nice if they weren't a pain in the butt to install I suppose...
[20:19]<@BC_Programming> my AMD K6-2 was LOUD
[20:19]<+camerongray> Ahh yeah
[20:19]<+camerongray> I'm fine with stock coolers if I'm not OC'ing
[20:20]<+camerongray> It's just this really cheap case that makes it so loud
[20:20]<@BC_Programming> I guess since this is an "Extreme" it doesn't work so well with the stock heatsink- assuming the stock heatsink for the Q8200 is even the same one for the QX6700
[20:20]<+camerongray> Put a Radeon 5450 in the 755 and it works great!
[20:21]<@BC_Programming> heh the latest ATI card I ever owned was a 900 AIW
[20:21]<+camerongray> I should sell it "Ultra fast dual core Dell gaming PC, 1gb graphics!"
[20:21]<@BC_Programming> 9000*
[20:21]<+camerongray> Or the other one "ULTRA FAST AMD DUAL CORE GAMING PC, NVIDIA GEFORCE GRAPHICS, L@@K"
[20:21]<@BC_Programming> "Much memory many gigahurtz wow buy"
[20:21]<+camerongray> The AMD one was a great dumpster dive :P
[20:22]<+camerongray> Missing RAM and HDD and PSU was crap but with spare parts and a cheap video card it made a great HTPC
[20:22]<+camerongray> Even has a Windows 7 COA on it
[20:22]<@BC_Programming> I learned about power supply considerations with my K6-2
[20:22]<@BC_Programming> Had soo many problems
[20:23]<+camerongray> Ahh yeah
[20:23]<@BC_Programming> random PCI slots just stopped working properly... Hard drives dissappeared from the system for no reason
[20:23]<@BC_Programming> and very loud
[20:23]<+camerongray> I scrapped the one this came with (didn't even try it) and put in a nice 350w FSP
[20:23]<+camerongray> Not sure what to do with it now
[20:23]<@BC_Programming> long after I had replaced it I "upgraded" it- replaced the CPU with slightly faster one, new cooler, and a new PSU
[20:23]<@BC_Programming> replace the PSU and what do you know, all those issues vanished
[20:24]<@BC_Programming> kinda sad that I ended up tossing my old systems
[20:24]<@BC_Programming> would be cool to play with a 286 now and again
[20:24]<+camerongray> Ahh yeah
[20:24]<+camerongray> One of mine got given away (Compaq 4824)
[20:25]<+camerongray> But I have the first PC I ever saw/used (Ambra Sprinta 486) and my first PC that got me properly into programming (Athlon 1400+)
[20:25]<+camerongray> Still has my first program on it
[20:25]<+camerongray> I know that because it's called "My firs [sic] program!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.doc"
[20:25]<@BC_Programming> your first programming computer was much better than mine
[20:25]<+camerongray> haha yeah
[20:26]<@BC_Programming> didn't have to suffer with hercules monochrome and QBASIC :P
[20:26]<+camerongray> Got it around 2004/5
[20:26]<@BC_Programming> ahh I had my K6-2 by then
[20:26]<@BC_Programming> 286 was, well, 2002
[20:32]<+camerongray> Oh yeah, went around earlier today and found all the PCs I owned: http://imgur.com/a/LdXOu
[20:32]<+camerongray> First two are of that Athlon 1400+ system (The bottom left tower in the third photo)
[20:34]<+camerongray> That's all of them apart from a Pentium III tower I forgot about, my XT and IBM PS/1 (which are both at uni at the moment) and a few laptops in the attic I forgot about (Compaq Presario K6-2. Compaq Armada M700, Dell Latitude LS)
[20:36]<@BC_Programming> I tried to turn my K6-2 350Mhz CPU into a hot plate
[20:36]<@BC_Programming> It did not work
[20:37]<+camerongray> haha
[20:37]<+camerongray> I have a lot of random machines but I love strange architectures
[20:37]<+camerongray> Or other strange systems
[20:37]<+camerongray> Like in this photo: http://i.imgur.com/9L0DYBK.jpg
[20:38]<@BC_Programming> ever watch the Computer Chronicles vids?
[20:39]<+camerongray> The top PC (not the SunRay thin client) has a very early ARM CPU, the two rightmost ones are Sun SPARC systems (Ultra 1 and SparcServer 5) and the small IBM below the ARM one is a PS/2E which is a 486SLC but very much like a laptop internally (Uses PCMCIA slots)
[20:40]<+camerongray> Yeah, watched quite a lot of them
[20:40]<@BC_Programming> ok good
[20:41]<+camerongray> I won't collect random old P4 towers, they have to be something interesting for me to want them
[20:41]<+camerongray> Not sure what I want next :P
[20:41]<+camerongray> Maybe a Compaq Portable but they are expensive
[20:41]<+camerongray> Difficulty is finding ones that aren't stupidly expensive because they are sold as "collectors items"
[20:42]<+camerongray> Alternative architectures are also hard since people buy them to keep legacy systems going, I could sell some of those SPARC boxes for way more than they are worth
[20:42]<@BC_Programming> yeah I was looking online at older laptops PCs a while ago
[20:42]<@BC_Programming> LTEs are like 300+
[20:43]<+camerongray> The two SPARC ones in that photo are a bit unhappy, the Ultra 1 has a very intermittent PSU (works when it gets going but takes several attempts to get it to start) and the SPARCServer has forgotten its MAC address so you need to enter a bunch of commands to tell it its MAC before it will boot
[20:43]<+camerongray> I do have a fully working Ultra 5 with Solaris 8 though which is nice: http://i.imgur.com/R3DhtvF.jpg
[20:44]<+camerongray> Notice how I have a collection of vintage PCs but I still use modern stuff and don't sit moaning about all the old stuff being better :P
[20:45]<+camerongray> Sure the old stuff is significantly heavier and feels a lot more solidly made with lots of really clever things, but boy are they tempremental to get working
[20:45]<+camerongray> That Acorn A700+ (The ARM one) was really fun, CMOS battery had puked everywhere so that was a massive job to clean up
[20:45]<+camerongray> A7000+*
[20:46]<+camerongray> It occasionally fails to see its HDD on boot so there may be a damaged trace somewhere that I need to fix with a bodge wire but it works fine apart from that so I'm tempted to leave it
[21:46] * Craig (ce@CBA9E13F.D0E64871.58586256.IP) has joined #glitchpc
[21:48]<Craig> Hey BC_Programming, camerongray
[22:03]<@BC_Programming> hey Craig, I threw together a Invoice statement, heh. Sent it, hope that is the sort of thing you were looking for
[22:03]<@BC_Programming> always glad to use my Software Solutions Logo
[22:03]<Craig> Exactly right, thanks BC
[22:04]<Craig> :)
[22:04]<Craig> hahahahaha
[22:04]<Craig> Are you Close to Bellingham Washington>?
[22:06]<@BC_Programming> for some definitions of "close" I suppose
[22:07]<Craig> As in are you closer to Bellingham and Banff than to Victoria/Vancouver?
[22:08]<@BC_Programming> no, looks a bit farther away, at least from here. I think Victoria is closer
[22:08]<Craig> Ahh
[22:09]<@BC_Programming> of course, Victoria is below the 49th parallel so I suppose it is to be expected
[22:14]<Craig> ok?
[22:14]<@BC_Programming> 49th parallel is the U.S Canada Border on the mainland, so Victoria is South of that so it's closer to the U.S than Mainland Canada oddly enough
[22:17]<Craig> Ahh yes,
[22:17]<Craig> I didn;t know that Nanimo was on the island.
[22:18]<Craig> I thought it was mainland central BC. :P
[22:18]<Craig> Waaaaay off.
[22:18]<@BC_Programming> haha all this time you thought I was somewhere totally different
[22:20]<Craig> Yup :p
[22:20]<Craig> I thought it was near Kelowna
[22:24]<Craig> You ever deal with Crystal Reports?
[22:24]<@BC_Programming> Not really
[22:25]<@BC_Programming> we use Jasper Reports for some reason
[22:25]<Craig> Check your e-mial, the error I am talking about is in there.
[22:25] * Craig (ce@CBA9E13F.D0E64871.58586256.IP) has left #glitchpc

[22:25]<Craig> ... oops./
[22:27]<@BC_Programming> is CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.dll in the same folder as the program?
[22:27]<Craig> one moment
[22:27]<Craig> No
[22:28]<Craig> Found it, thanks. :P
[22:28]<Craig> Its under Crystal Decisions, and a bunch of sub folder.s
[22:28]<Craig> I should be able to put that in Common files and it should work right, original directory and such?
[22:29]<@BC_Programming> It has to be in the same directory as the executable or on the System Path as I recall
[22:30]<Craig> I could put it in the same folder if that works.
[22:30]<Craig> Hmm I would like to try, but I have no clue how to do what she was doing. :P
[22:32]<@BC_Programming> I'd expect any Report/Invoice function would try to use Crystal Reports
[22:33]<Craig> that would make sense, but I need to test it on her system, since she would be faster at playing with it.
[22:34]<@BC_Programming> Same Folder should work.
[22:34]<Craig> Cool,
[22:34]<Craig> I will try that first, since its the simplest.
[22:42]<@BC_Programming> Unrelated but, it's weird seeing stuff like PO Numbers, Quote/Order Numbers, Invoice, Suppliers, etc. stuff in other programs now, even though I imagine it is practically in any business software. I remember in the decompiled code there were things called "Slips" which confused me every step along the way... since a Slip is a place to park your boat as far as I'm concerned :P
[23:10]<Craig> Hahahahahaha
[23:10]<Craig> Nice
[23:10]<Craig> Sorry, I was busy putting the filter on the front of my server Rack. Now to make it only move air from the front.
