[14:22]<Craig> Hey BC, if I gave you a database, would you be able to bruteforce the password, I have a customers data that they need access too out of a proprietary peice of software that is out of date and no longer supported.
[14:23]<@BC_Programming> probably not... what software?
[14:23]<Craig> What are the chances that the database is encrypted?
[14:23]<Craig> Since its MSSql
[14:23]<Craig> I don't know its name
[14:25]<@BC_Programming> MS SQL runs on a server usually
[14:25]<Craig> yeah,
[14:25]<@BC_Programming> If it is encrypted in some sense than the password and possibly connection info might be in the program itself
[14:26]<Craig> Well its an SQL2k4 Light server, with windows XP
[14:26]<@BC_Programming> Express?
[14:26]<Craig> I am looking at the structures right now
[14:26]<Craig> Maybe, I am not sure,
[14:26]<Craig> just says SQL2K4SP4
[14:26]<Craig> for the folder name
[14:27]<Craig> The software is called TWeld, and or TyconSoftware
[14:29]<+camerongray> Hey Craig & BC_Programming
[14:29]<Craig> Hey Cam
[14:30]<Craig> Hey Cam, Got any ideas about this?
[14:30]<+camerongray> No idea, never used MSSQL :P
[14:30]<@BC_Programming> MS SQL Server should have it's own management UI
[14:30]<Craig> And BC, how hard would it be for you to reverse engineer this program, looks to be about 20MB/
[14:30]<Craig> ?
[14:30]<+camerongray> Surely there would be some sort of DB admin user on the system
[14:30]<Craig> Yeah, but the HDD was down.
[14:30]<Craig> So I had to recover, so no working system to work with,.
[14:31]<Craig> I haven't had much time to test, but I am working on some idea's. :)
[14:31]<+camerongray> Ahh, so what do you acutally have then in the way of the database?
[14:31]<Craig> A backup, and the original database.
[14:31]<@BC_Programming> I'd expect you could install 2K4 Express and then copy the database files to the corresponding folders perhaps
[14:31]<Craig> Hmmm thats worth a try,
[14:32]<Craig> I will probably do it in a VM though, so I can migrate it when needed.
[14:32]<@BC_Programming> though you won't get any help from me installing it since I've never been able to get it to install lol
[14:33]<Craig> Heh, no worries, I will be able too.
[14:33]<Craig> :P
[14:33]<Craig> I have before.
[14:33]<Craig> If I sent you a zip of the program though, could you try to reverse engineer it?
[14:33]<Craig> They may want support for it, and they would be willing to pay.
[14:33]<Craig> (They being the Company here, and another group.)
[14:33]<+camerongray> Not sure what the program would contain though
[14:33]<@BC_Programming> I could try
[14:33]<Craig> Cool,
[14:34]<+camerongray> Surely it will just run queries on the database itself
[14:34]<@BC_Programming> if it's .NET it will be easy, if it's not than it would probably be beyond me to get much usefulness out of it, except perhaps strings
[14:34]<Craig> :P
[14:36]<@BC_Programming> unrelated but now I finally have my own place, heh... the neighbors downstairs moved out so I moved in... thus the hostmask change from telus to shaw
[14:36]<Craig> Nice
[14:41]<Craig> Sorry Cam, business chat goin on. :)
