[03:12]<@BC_Programming> Unicomp keyboards would be great if they weren't piles of F-ing crap
[03:12]<@BC_Programming> I'm tempted to smash mine in half on my knee and be done with the damned thing
[03:12]<@BC_Programming> had to switch back to my old one because my unicomp as usual is being a piece of trash
[03:13]<@BC_Programming> I'd RMA it but I think I might be out of time for that. Oh, also I think they shouldn't send me garbage that doesn't work... least they could have done was use reasonable screws, not this nut crap they used, so I can open it and fix their shitty manufacturing... oh well
[04:11]<+camerongray> Should have like a years warranty on it
[04:52]<@BC_Programming> It is exactly one year and a week old
[04:52]<@BC_Programming> managed to find a socket, and took it apart
[04:52]<@BC_Programming> I suspect the problem was the completely ripped to crap red wire on the main connector
[04:53]<@BC_Programming> which I touched and subsequently broke off
[04:54]<@BC_Programming> I soldered that directly onto the pin it was connected to and it seemed like I fixed it but then the keys stopped responding when I got the cover on
[04:54]<+camerongray> Ahh, hmm
[04:55]<+camerongray> May be worth contacting Unicomp though - As a small company they are generally pretty good
[04:55]<@BC_Programming> It seems the cable had zero stress relief so it seems like over time the very thin wires that come off from the cable to the connector inside fail from stress
[04:55]<+camerongray> Ahh, that's a bit crap
[04:57]<@BC_Programming> when I took the case off and was fiddling with it again to try to get it working I was able to get the keys responding (well, caps lock, anyway) and then my solder point broke off
[04:59]<@BC_Programming> I'll give it one more go before I give up
[05:00]<@BC_Programming> I already ordered a black version of this same keyboard anyway
[05:00]<@BC_Programming> when that shows up I think the first thing I will do is disassembly it and make sure there is some reasonable stress relief for the cable
[05:03]<+camerongray> Ahh cool
[05:09]<@BC_Programming> nope this isn't happening
[05:09]<@BC_Programming> well that pisses me off
[05:09]<@BC_Programming> I'd get a keyboard from waskeyboards instead if it wasn't so much more expensive
[05:11]<@BC_Programming> I'll make a support ticket but I don't expect much given I've disassembled it and mangled the innards
[05:12]<@BC_Programming> In the meantime it's back to this keyboard I suppose... ironic in a way that a 15 dollar cheap-o keyboard seems so much more reliable than a mechanical...
[05:29]<@BC_Programming> I'm going to see if they can send me or sell me the USB cable+Pin Header + grounding clamp piece
[05:30]<@BC_Programming> as far as I can tell everything else in the keyboard is fine it's just the header down that causes issues and I'd hate to have an unusable keyboard just lying around

[14:12]<@BC_Programming> cool they sent me a USB header at no charge
[14:16]<@BC_Programming> heh they added it to my other keyboard order
[15:09]<+camerongray> Sweet
[15:09]<+camerongray> See, that's why I like Unicomp, great customer service
[15:09]<+camerongray> Meanwhile a week later I have finally been able to get IBM out to replace my laptop
[15:10]<@BC_Programming> should be able to get my old one working again, and if I can't I probably screwed up the board somehow
[15:10]<+camerongray> Even though they claim the marks on the palmrest caused by a blatent design flaw with the top case are "wear and tear" and therefore won't replace it
[15:10]<+camerongray> I'll just have to wait until the part is cheap enough then swap it out myself
[15:10]<@BC_Programming> I'll have to choose to use the new black one I got or my old one, decisions
[15:11]<+camerongray> haha
[15:11]<@BC_Programming> found a nut driver that was the perfect size, took some looking
[15:11]<+camerongray> My laptop screen developed a massive yellow patch but thankfullly they are replacing it
[15:11]<@BC_Programming> was it a korean model?
[15:11]<+camerongray> No idea
[15:12]<+camerongray> AU Optronics or something
[15:12]<@BC_Programming> possible
[15:12]<+camerongray> Almost happy it got the patch as the screen has a few pressure marks from it rubbing on the keyboard that the warranty wouldn't cover
[15:12]<+camerongray> Therefore I'll get a new screen and I can then make sure I have something covering the keyboard in transit to protect it
[15:13]<+camerongray> It's a pretty nice screen though - 14" 1080p IPS so not cheap to replace
[15:13]<@BC_Programming> ahh yes
[15:15]<+camerongray> UGH, that's now taunting me: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lenovo-IBM-ThinkPad-T440p-Keyboard-Bezel-ClickPad-Palmrest-04X5394-P2251-/271209739421?pt=UK_Computing_Other_Computing_Networking&hash=item3f255c349d
[15:15]<+camerongray> You can get the beze really cheap for a T440p
[15:15]<+camerongray> But not the T440s
[15:15]<+camerongray> And they are slightly different
[15:15]<@BC_Programming> if you ever see a 755CDV let me know :P
[15:15]<+camerongray> haha
[15:16]<+camerongray> Oh yeah ,fixed my 755c
[15:16]<+camerongray> It was just cutting out at random
[15:16]<+camerongray> Turned out the power adapter was bad
[15:16]<+camerongray> So through taking an old 12v monitor power brick and a bit of soldering to get the original DC lead attached, it now works
[15:17]<@BC_Programming> cool
[15:18]<+camerongray> Starting to at least see a few more parts for this laptop appearing on eBay so should be able to get the bits I want soon
[18:21]<jamer> bought a new phone
