[03:43]<+camerongray> BC_Programming: Geek-9pm happened again
[03:57]<@BC_Programming> lol
[03:57]<+camerongray> Did you see it?
[03:57]<+camerongray> Title sums it up "How Microsfot has stopped Linux."
[03:57]<@BC_Programming> oh
[03:58]<+camerongray> Yeah...
[03:58]<@BC_Programming> I thought you meant where he said a CD/DVD drive could cause mobo problems
[03:58]<+camerongray> Oh, no, saw this after that
[03:58]<+camerongray> One day he'll learn what UEFI is
[04:17]<+camerongray> Wonder if he'll reply or abandon it like his last UEFI related one
[04:19] * Zuwer (Mibbit@mib-9196E61D.jetstream.xtra.co.nz) has joined #glitchpc
[04:29] * jamer (uid12136@mib-DEE87C23.irccloud.com) has joined #glitchpc
[04:31]<@BC_Programming> oooh man
[04:31]<@BC_Programming> see my reply
[04:32]<@BC_Programming> I had something longer but you pretty much covered it all
[04:34]<+camerongray> Oh :P
[04:35]<@BC_Programming> I think it's hilarious at any rate
[04:35]<+camerongray> Yeah
[04:35]<+camerongray> Wonder if he will though :D
[04:35]<@BC_Programming> He'll be like "I like articles"
[04:37]<+camerongray> I loved the "If you want Linux, you have to build your own system or have it custom made. Orr use an old clunker." bit
[04:37]<+camerongray> Since he's clearly up to date with modern technolgoy with his E1705 laptop and Optiplex GX520
[04:38]<+camerongray> Oh, and the thing about the third world, because people only use Linux becuase they can't afford Windows
[04:39]<@BC_Programming> Correcting Geek-9pm's idiocy is a full-time job. It's not even worth it except to avoid people who aren't aware that he pulls information out of his ass from making the mistake of thinking anything he says is accurate.
[04:40]<+camerongray> yeah
[04:40]<+camerongray> You sort of have to run after him and clean up
[04:40]<@BC_Programming> And the nhe confuses the bejesus out of people legitimately seeking help with nonsense
[04:40]<+camerongray> Yeah
[04:40]<+camerongray> Like the CD/DVD thing
[04:41]<+camerongray> I couldn't think of a better response
[04:41]<@BC_Programming> This could also be caused by proximity to a broken toaster
[04:41]<+camerongray> I mean, sure theoretcially a drive could have an electical issue causing the PSU to go wonky causing the crashes and not booting
[04:41]<@BC_Programming> he also made a post about RTL text support
[04:42]<+camerongray> But then yeah, a broken toaster on the same mains circuit is just as likely to cause that :P
[04:42]<+camerongray> Yeah, saw that
[04:42]<@BC_Programming> then poor Dave follows along
[04:42]<+camerongray> What? With a story? :P
[04:42]<@BC_Programming> I think there was a story in there, there usually is
[04:43]<+camerongray> hahha yeah
[04:43]<+camerongray> "I had this issue abotut 5 months ago" *10 paragraphs"
[04:43]<@BC_Programming> I sometimes add stories too but I try to keep them relevant
[04:43]<@BC_Programming> my DVD isnt working
[04:43]<@BC_Programming> I had a similar issue, only instead of a DVD drive it was a light bulb *Essay*
[04:44]<+camerongray> "It was a warm summer evening and I went to play a DVD, I got popcorn all ready, sat down, my dog came and sat next to me..."
[04:44]<+camerongray> At least Dave does seem to understand stuff
[04:45]<@BC_Programming> When I came home weak and drunk, and within my DVD Drive a disc I sunk
[04:45]<+camerongray> haha
[04:45]<@BC_Programming> It failed to work and I was confused, so I found something else to keep myself amused
[04:46]<@BC_Programming> etc
[04:46]<+camerongray> Forgot about that the other day - Thought my DVD drive was broken as I put a DVD in and it started making horrific grating noises. Turns out they don't work well when you put a disc in and forget to take the old one out :P
[04:47]<@BC_Programming> how did you manage that
[04:47]<@BC_Programming> is it one of those drives with no tray and just eats the disc and spits it out
[04:47]<+camerongray> Nah, it has a tray - I just didn't look
[04:47]<@BC_Programming> something keeps locking mine
[04:47]<+camerongray> It's under my desk so I just feel for the button and put the disc in without looking at the drive
[04:48]<@BC_Programming> soemtimes I press the button and it doesnt open at all
[04:48]<@BC_Programming> I think VMWare locks it or something
[04:48]<+camerongray> Ahh
[04:48]<+camerongray> My old Compaq PII had a slot drive - That thing ate discs
[04:49]<+camerongray> I ended up having the drive unscrewed so I could pull it out the front of the case and take the cover off in order to rescue discs
[04:49]<@BC_Programming> Oh you like old stuff, you might find these videos amusing
[04:49]<@BC_Programming> https://archive.org/search.php?query=collection%3Acomputerchronicles&sort=-publicdate
[04:49]<+camerongray> Then I finally upgraded to a CD+RW drive and Windows 98 :P
[04:49]<@BC_Programming> relatively old videos, they are kind of hilarious
[04:49]<+camerongray> Ahh yeah
[04:50]<+camerongray> Got my old PC I used from 2005-2010 working
[04:50]<+camerongray> Found all the parts and put it back together including the original HDD I used until 2007/8 or so
[04:50]<+camerongray> Windows 98 :P
[04:50]<@BC_Programming> heh I saw one where a guest was showing his companys laptop, and it had a 5-1/4 floppy drive
[04:51]<+camerongray> nice!
[04:51]<+camerongray> Been playing with old Sun stuff - That's quite fun since it's so different
[04:51]<+camerongray> No BIOS - Uses OpenBoot
[04:51]<@BC_Programming> its more standard than the 3-1/2 disks other portable systems have
[04:52]<+camerongray> nice!
[04:52]<+camerongray> But wait, those Sun machines have OpenBoot which is like an early version of EFI
[04:52]<@BC_Programming> and these little dinky systems with tiny impossible to read screens going for like 10K
[04:52]<+camerongray> They can only run Windows 8, not Linux or UNIX or anything. Oh wait... :P
[04:52]<+camerongray> Ahh yeah, the IBM palmtop
[04:53]<+camerongray> Got Solaris 8 installed on my Sun Ultra 5 - Netscape 4 preinstalled
[04:54]<+camerongray> Turns out, some of the intranet stuff at uni is so outdated it works fine in Netscape!
[04:54]<@BC_Programming> nah they had a bunch of different portable systems like this
[04:54]<@BC_Programming> As everybody knows, its impossible to make Color LCDs
[04:54]<+camerongray> haha!
[04:54]<@BC_Programming> they are hilarious in hindsight like that
[04:55]<+camerongray> They had one on UNIX too - "IT's getting more stable now"
[04:55]<@BC_Programming> Linux? i seem to remember one that had Suse
[04:56]<+camerongray> what one?
[04:56]<@BC_Programming> I dont remember tbh
[04:56]<@BC_Programming> I know Torvalds was in the win98 one oddly enough, it might have been that one
[04:56]<+camerongray> Ahh
[04:58]<@BC_Programming> going to go get my Replacement 440CDX parts Parcel later today
[04:59]<+camerongray> nice!
[04:59]<+camerongray> I want to get more old stuff but need to wait until after I've moved
[04:59]<@BC_Programming> replacement HDD and CD-ROM, hopefully i can reinstall Windows 98SE on the new 10GB drive
[05:00]<@BC_Programming> my CD-ROM Drive is busted and acts weird, only works with CD-Audio, not CD-ROMs. Hopefully it works with CD-Rs
[05:00]<@BC_Programming> If not I guess Ill have to find a way to image the current drive and copy it to the new one
