[23:30]<@BC_Programming> main reason is because most games can "cheat" with LOD stuff, and represent that cow in the distance with a few polies, but Minecraft has to send them all, and can't easily "cheat" because it's all procedurally generated so there's no good way to play tricks

[23:33]<@BC_Programming> so say you are on a mountaintop or whatever, looking down at a village in say skyrim or whatever, it's going to be at reduced detail of course, but what can be done there is 'specific' optimization, "oh, you can't see this from that angle" type stuff. So an entire building that will always be hidden can just not be rendered from that position
