[13:30]<@Calum> camerongray: just saw that thread on OcUK about Silicon Centre, that's hilarious
[13:30]<+camerongray> Yeah
[13:31]<+camerongray> They have been okay when I've quickly bought stuff before but that's mental!
[13:31]<@Calum> that is utterly lolworthy, I mean common sense alone dictates that their diagnosis is utter rubbish
[13:31]<+camerongray> Yeah
[13:31]<+camerongray> In fact, you tend not to connect the pump to the CPU fan header
[13:31]<+camerongray> Put the actual fan on that!
[13:31]<@Calum> exactly, I certainly never did
[13:33]<@Calum> good to see his system's nice and clean...NOT
[13:33]<@Calum> 16 feet of dust built up on his GPU fan
[13:34]<+camerongray> lol!
[13:34]<@Calum> hah, Evoaddict wading in there
[13:34]<@Calum> that's Rob, the assistant tech manager
[13:34]<+camerongray> Surprised by Silicon through - My uncle has one of their machines and it's a pretty decent build
[13:35]<+camerongray> Nothing fancy - AMD A4.etc, but it's neat enough
[13:35]<@Calum> interesting
[13:35]<+camerongray> And the OS is licenced which is rare for a lot of small PC shops :P
[13:35]<@Calum> maybe it was the work experience guy who did their diagnosis :P
[13:35]<+camerongray> lol yeah
[13:35]<@Calum> heh yeah, surprising how common piracy is in places like that
[13:35]<+camerongray> Or could have changed hands or something
[13:35]<+camerongray> It's worrying
[13:36]<@Calum> maybe yeah, hard to say
[13:36]<+camerongray> I mean, I run legit OSs on my own machines let alone the ones I sell!
[13:36]<@Calum> exactly
[13:36]<@Calum> I had to do 2 weeks work in a PC shop near me when I was on jobseekers, they were ridiculous
[13:36]<@Calum> I gave up trying to help/correct them in the end
[13:37]<+camerongray> lol!
[13:37]<+camerongray> So many are like that nowadays
[13:38]<@Calum> seriously, one time they took a PC in in part ex, and were reinstalling it to sell...the CPU heatsink was clearly not on right, the CPU was at 70C in the BIOS and throttling down, the fan at 100%
[13:38]<@Calum> he just said "fan's a bit loud" and left it at that
[13:38]<+camerongray> wow!
[13:38]<@Calum> I tried to tell him, he wouldn't listen, so I gave up
[13:38]<+camerongray> This is the only place I can trust now: http://www.idealcomputing.co.uk/
[13:38]<@Calum> he was good at laptop repairs I'll give him that....really good at DC jack replacements and disassembly, quicker than me for sure
[13:39]<+camerongray> Yeah
[13:39]<@Calum> they look decent yeah, just from their website
[13:39]<+camerongray> Been around forever :P
[13:39]<@Calum> it doesn't make my eyes bleed which is more than can be said for a lot of PC places
[13:39]<+camerongray> Yeah
[13:39]<+camerongray> Their cheaper stuff uses Asrock but could easily ask them to swap it out
[13:39]<@Calum> yeah
[13:39]<+camerongray> My friend uses them all the time to get his iPhone screen replaced
[13:40]<+camerongray> yes... he uses them for that "all the time"
[13:40]<+camerongray> :P
[13:40]<+camerongray> Think he's on his 6th now
[13:40]<@Calum> hah
[13:41]<+camerongray> Really friendly lot too
[13:41]<@Calum> that's cool
[13:41]<+camerongray> I remember years ago when my broadband was stupidly slow and the Windows 7 beta came out they burned the beta onto a DVD for me
[13:42]<@Calum> that's pretty cool
[13:42]<+camerongray> They were running a promotion at the time where they would install the beta at the time if you "were tired of vista" and replace it with the full copy when it was released for just the cost of the licence
[13:43]<@Calum> that's pretty awesome
[13:43]<@Calum> love this quote from that thread
[13:43]<@Calum> Probably not a very helpful post, but as a resident of Edinburgh for 28 years I can reliably inform that silicon are a bunch of Yahoos and their shop is a pigsty.
[13:43]<+camerongray> Yeah
[13:43]<+camerongray> Shop is a bit cluttered yeah
[13:44]<@Calum> OP of that thread is a real knob though, I would've banned him heh
[13:44]<+camerongray> They do a lot of refurb stuff I think so lots of old machines piled up
[13:50]<+camerongray> My uncle was telling me he went to SIlicon in the 90s to buy one of the Acorn machines that had just come out - He was looking at it and the salesperson said "That's a bit out of your league" - He pulled his credit card out, said "I was about to buy that" and walked out :P
[13:50]<@Calum> haha
[13:50]<@Calum> way to lose a customer
