[01:17]<PCdoc> BC_Programming: there?
[01:17]<@BC_Programming> yes
[01:18]<PCdoc> I talked to lisa maree who just reached Intermediate level on the forums, she says those report to mod link is not visible to her too
[01:18]<PCdoc> Which means they probably by mistake taken permissions off from the Intermediate level.
[01:19]<@BC_Programming> Only Nathan can change that stuff
[01:19]<PCdoc> omg!
[01:19]<@BC_Programming> which means we can expect a fix sometime next year
[01:20]<PCdoc> Aren't there any 'admin' other than super admin and global moderator?
[01:21]<@BC_Programming> I just answered that
[01:21]<PCdoc> ok
[01:21]<PCdoc> I'll update Calum.
[01:21]<@BC_Programming> Surely you have something better to do
[01:22]<PCdoc> No, I am getting bored becuase everyone here is busy watching cricket match against West Indies. Its cricket madness all across the country. For next 2 more days, they gonna leave all there work aside and watch match which I really hate.
[01:22]<PCdoc> because*
[01:25]<PCdoc> People have spend 10,000 indian rupees to buy one ticket to the match. I wonder how do they have so much spare bucks omg

[09:18]<+camerongray> Hey Calum
[09:18]<@Calum> hey camerongray
[09:20]<@Calum> how goes it?
[09:21]<@BC_Programming> hmm, the hard drive I still have in there is a 7200.11
[09:21]<@BC_Programming> and it's even older than the one that failed
[09:21]<@BC_Programming> at least chkdsk /f still finishes on it.... chkdsk on the other drive hung the PC for the last year or so
[09:23]<@BC_Programming> Here's hoping it lasts until I get the new drives... first have to wait a ridiculous amount of time to get it transferred to paypal... by that time all the discounts will be gone and I'll have to get something else
[09:23]<@Calum> ah is your paypal not linked or something?
[09:23]<@BC_Programming> it's linked to a Bank account
[09:23]<@BC_Programming> but it takes like a week to transfer
[09:24]<@Calum> ah right, must only be instant when it's linked to a card I guess
[09:24]<@BC_Programming> I could probably place an order and have it transfer automatically, but I'd still have to wait anyway
[09:24]<@Calum> even then, normally transfers take like 2-3 working days, at least from what I remember back when I didn't have a card
[09:25]<@BC_Programming> Bank transfer| Add Funds From a Bank Account in Canada| 6-8 business days
[09:25]<@Calum> wow
[09:25]<@Calum> well that sucks
[09:25]<@BC_Programming> 3-5 for the U.S
[09:26]<@BC_Programming> also this has made me paranoid. now whenever there is disk thrashing or something hangs I'm thinking "oh, this is it, it's all over..." heh
[09:26]<@Calum> heh yeah, I can imagine
[09:27]<@Calum> time to back up to the cloud
[09:28]<@BC_Programming> Still going to be a PITA to setup a new install, and I'll probably have to wait until the weekend after the drives arrive to do so
[09:30]<@Calum> yeah, probably best to put as little strain on the drive as possible, but fear of disks failing and other things is what made me decide to go with Crashplan last year...well that and the fact that it was ridiculously cheap
[09:30]<@Calum> renewed yesterday, not so cheap, but probably worth it
[09:30]<+camerongray> Yeah, I store all my stuff on a RAID array
[09:30]<+camerongray> Soon hope to have that automatically backing up to my colocated server
[09:30]<@BC_Programming> here's something fun, before the 1.5TB failed I haven't had any real hard drive failures that weren't stupid actions by me
[09:31]<@Calum> I just don't trust my physical backups, just in case there was a fire while I was out or something
[09:31]<@BC_Programming> I still have the boot drive from the 386 I used to use and it still works, haha
[09:31]<@Calum> I think I've only had one HDD failure but that was a PSU going BANG
[09:31]<@Calum> *due to
[09:32]<@BC_Programming> did I ever tell the story about how I accidentally sent a CD-Burner's firmware to a 4GB HDD?
[09:32]<@Calum> heh, no
[09:32]<@BC_Programming> Drive was borked of course- all the data lost. But the interesting thing, is that, after that, it was still recognized and used- but as a 2GB drive
[09:32]<@Calum> heh, crazy
[09:32]<@BC_Programming> as in, the entire Space was now 2GB instead of 4GB. That doesn't make sense to me
[09:33]<@Calum> yeah that's bizarre
[09:34]<@BC_Programming> best I can guess is the firmware program managed to write to the drive firmware but maybe only wrote over the data table for cylinders/heads/etc.
[09:35]<@BC_Programming> Needless to say I have never flashed a Optical drive since then
[09:35]<@Calum> lol yeah
[09:35]<@BC_Programming> I recall thinking about doing the firmware update since it had some issues burning some brands of disc. "What could possibly go wrong?"
[09:35]<@BC_Programming> And then after that I completely bricked the optical drive too
[09:36]<@Calum> yeah, I think I've only ever flashed one drive, and it died a few months later...don't think it was related, just made it kind of pointless
[09:37]<@BC_Programming> I did successfully flash my K6-2 PC's BIOS, so I guess there was that
[09:37]<@BC_Programming> It half fixed the issue, I was hoping for support of Hard drives larger than 32GB
[09:37]<@BC_Programming> before it hung the computer at the "detecting" stage
[09:37]<@Calum> oh god, the ways in which BIOS flashing can go wrong...the sheer amount of people who used to call after bricking their board doing it
[09:37]<@BC_Programming> after the update it detected the drive(s) but simply hung when the computer started booting
[09:38]<@Calum> I only had it go wrong once, and typically it was on an SR-2...fortunately it has 3 BIOS chips
[09:38]<@BC_Programming> Well that's why I only did it with the K6-2 after I had already started using another PC
[09:38]<@BC_Programming> if I screwed up it wouldn't matter since I didn't really use it
[09:38]<@Calum> but the procedure to flash it was horrible, EVGA are still back in the dark ages with that
[09:38]<@Calum> I'm dreading doing it on mine
[09:38]<@BC_Programming> DOS boot disks
[09:39]<@BC_Programming> heh just did SystemInfo- Original Install Date: 3/23/2010, 3:12:46 AM
[09:39]<@Calum> I don't mind with any other company, I used to flash Asus and Gigabyte tons of times a day
[10:37]<@BC_Programming> http://support.seagate.com/firmware/fts_drive_check_en.html
[10:39]<@Calum> yeah they did release an updated firmware that was meant to fix the 7200.11 issues
[10:40]<@BC_Programming> darn, my Secondary already has it or something
[10:55]<@BC_Programming> ok so I guess that wasn't related to my problem then
[10:55]<@BC_Programming> would have been nice if a firmware patch magically fixed my other drive
[10:55]<@Calum> yeah :(
[10:56]<@BC_Programming> I'm still keeping the 1500, I did only reboot twice
[10:57]<@BC_Programming> basically it still was detected in the BIOS and everything but trying to access it would hang and then give an I/O error, which has happened before. Was going to get an External so I can power cycle easier and try to grab some of the data on it
[10:57]<@Calum> yeah, worth a shot
[10:58]<@BC_Programming> it did this before, usually it was triggered by a read or write presumably to some trouble spot on the drive.. then bam, hang, go to explorer and it doesn't show size info, then it just vanishes entirely
[10:58]<@Calum> Yeah I know what you mean, ran into that with faulty drives myself
[10:59]<@BC_Programming> at least I've not had that issue with my OS drive... yet...
[11:02]<@BC_Programming> hmm "FLUSH_CACHE commands may time out when NCQ is used."
