[11:50]<Craig-Work> Hi Calum, How goes it?
[11:50]<@Calum> hey Craig-Work, not bad thanks, yourself?
[11:50]<Craig-Work> Doing great, what are you up to today?
[11:50]<Craig-Work> Where do you work again? A computer store right?
[11:50]<@Calum> just got back from work and ate heh
[11:50]<@Calum> nah, I did, I work in an engineering place as an IT tech now
[11:51]<Craig-Work> Ahh cool,
[11:51]<Craig-Work> I got hired at MemoryExpress @ http://www.memoryexpress.com <-
[11:51]<Craig-Work> I am super stoked. I have been doing well I think. :)
[11:51]<@Calum> ah nice, that's awesome! I've even heard of them heh :)
[11:51]<Craig-Work> Hahaha nice,
[11:52]<Craig-Work> how did you hear about them?
[11:52]<Craig-Work> Probably though me. :P
[11:52]<@Calum> seen them mentioned on various places, I think you have actually shown products on there before too yeah
[11:52]<Craig-Work> Yeah I usually quote them or newegg.
[11:52]<@Calum> but I've seen them on various sites, obviously never bought from them but seen deals being discussed etc
[11:53]<Craig-Work> Cool,
[11:53]<Craig-Work> Yeah they are very competetive.
[11:53]<@BC_Programming> I went with a 480SSD instead of the nearly 1TB one
[11:53]<Craig-Work> We will price match plus 25 percent extra off the difference.
[11:53]<Craig-Work> Crazy, what was the 1tb worth?
[11:53]<@Calum> sweet
[11:53]<@BC_Programming> 550 or so
[11:53]<@Calum> ah cool BC
[11:54]<@BC_Programming> if I went with the 960GB SSD I would have had like 5 dollars for the next 2 weeks lol
[11:54]<@Calum> lol
[11:57]<+camerongray> Hey Calum
[11:57]<@Calum> hey camerongray
[11:58]<+camerongray> Yeah, even a 480gb SSD sounds mental for me
[11:58]<@Calum> 480GB should see you right for the next few years, probably till your next rig to be honest
[11:58]<@Calum> I have been using a 30GB SSD for the last year or so, so...:P
[11:58]<@BC_Programming> still 4TB WD Red for a new secondary
[11:59]<+camerongray> lol
[11:59]<@BC_Programming> well this drive I'm using now is 750GB, it's the one that I bought with the system... it's used space is in the red and has been for a long time
[11:59]<+camerongray> Another uni lab all-nighter
[11:59]<+camerongray> It's your job to keep me sane
[11:59]<+camerongray> Doing this beauty - http://www.inf.ed.ac.uk/teaching/courses/inf2c-cs/coursework/cw2.pdf
[11:59]<@BC_Programming> though I think most of the space used is from downloads and crap
[12:00]<@BC_Programming> yeah Downloads folder "2,044 items" just in that folder, not counting subdirectories
[12:00]<Craig-Work> My ssd lasted 2 months with my usage. :p
[12:00]<+camerongray> I have a system I like - I have a "Temp" folder in my home directory - I stick all my downloads/stuff in there and can just empty the directory with the knowledge there is nothing valuable in thre
[12:00]<@Calum> 2 months?? what kind of SSD did you have?
[12:01]<+camerongray> Craig-Work: What did you do to it? And what SSD?
[12:01]<Craig-Work> Corsair. :P
[12:01]<@Calum> Sandforce?
[12:01]<@Calum> Force 3 or something similar?
[12:01]<+camerongray> Ahh, that was my first SSD
[12:02]<@Calum> if it's Sandforce I'm surprised it even lasted 2 months heh, would never touch any of their products
[12:02]<Craig-Work> I don't really need SSD's what I need are Raids, around 6 disks raid 5, 1TB each, under UEFI. :P Win7, shoul dbe good. :P
[12:03]<@Calum> everyone needs SSDs
[12:03]<@Calum> ;)
[12:03]<@BC_Programming> next will be new monitor(s)
[12:04]<@BC_Programming> then I won't have to worry about a new monitor for a build and can use my old one for this one, assuming I ever use it
[12:04]<+camerongray> Yeah, get one of the 1440p ones
[12:04]<+camerongray> AMAZING!
[12:05]<@Calum> definitely 1440p
[12:05]<Craig-Work> :P
[12:05]<@BC_Programming> yeah was thinking one of the ones that Cam posted, or at least something similar
[12:05]<+camerongray> The hazro is brilliant but they probably only do them in the UK
[12:05]<@BC_Programming> but hard drives come first
[12:05]<+camerongray> There is always like the Dell Ultrasharp.etc
[12:05]<@Calum> there are a few options in the US for a similar/same panel, without necessarily paying the Dell premium but without going for a Korean panel
[12:05]<+camerongray> Or just get a korean one and a nice stand (If you want one)
[12:05]<@BC_Programming> I already got a keyboard before I replaced my failing hard drive and I sorta paid the price when it changed from "failing" to "failed"
[12:06]<+camerongray> Ahh
[12:06]<+camerongray> Is the keyboard fine now>
[12:06]<@BC_Programming> yeah I have the cord tucked in the little cord runner in the bottom so it doesn't move around, hasn't disconnected since
[12:06]<+camerongray> Ahh, cool
[12:07]<+camerongray> At least it is just slack so worst case you can just open it and fix it
[12:07]<@BC_Programming> yeah that's what I want to do eventually
[12:07]<@BC_Programming> why must they use flat-faced nuts
[12:08]<+camerongray> lol - "tradition" :P
[12:08]<+camerongray> Exact same as on my '86 Model M
[12:08]<@BC_Programming> haha
[12:08]<@BC_Programming> I had to use my old keyboard for something or other and it felt weird
[12:10]<@BC_Programming> This one is much better :D
[12:10]<+camerongray> haha yeah
[12:10]<@BC_Programming> old one feels smooshy
[12:11]<+camerongray> I do have to say though - If you need a cheap keyboard for anything - This is absolutely amazing: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Genuine-Original-Keyboard-Layout-Dell/dp/B004HEBB8K/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1384456271&sr=8-6&keywords=dell+keyboard
[12:12]<+camerongray> A few of the workstations at uni have them and they are the best rubber dome I've ever used
[12:12]<@BC_Programming> but are they smooshy
[12:12]<+camerongray> lol, not bad actually
[12:12]<+camerongray> And the keys like right-shift and return are really stable
[12:13]<+camerongray> And they look really smart as well
[12:13]<+camerongray> Tempted to get one just to have as a spare
[12:13] * Calum (Mibbit@mib-6373825A.cable.virginm.net) Quit (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)
[12:13]<@BC_Programming> Calum disagrees
[12:13]<+camerongray> haha!
[12:14]<+camerongray> I really liked those Dells with the massive spacebars - These are similar but a bit better IMO
[12:14]<+camerongray> Tempted to get one for work - I have one of the massive spacebar ones at the moment
[12:15]<+camerongray> When I got my desk it had a horriffic dell one - Found this one in the bottom of a box in the cupboard, at least I can type now
[12:15]<+camerongray> but it's pretty dirty and shiny
[12:27] * Calum (Mibbit@mib-6373825A.cable.virginm.net) has joined #glitchpc

[12:27] * ChanServ sets mode: +o Calum
[12:27]<@Calum> internet dropped out :(
[12:29]<Craig-Work> Hey BC, did you show calum my quote for you?
[12:30]<@BC_Programming> No
[12:30]<Craig-Work> oh :(
[12:36]<@Calum> ah man I do love debating PSUs and SSDs
[12:37]<@BC_Programming> where is this
[12:37]<@Calum> PSUs on CH, SSDs elsewhere
[12:37]<@Calum> but I always love debating no matter the venue
[12:37]<@BC_Programming> ha.. geek-9pm has some crazy ideas about PSUs
[12:38]<@Calum> hm, can't think of a thread recently where I've had that "pleasure"
[12:38]<Craig-Work> Most people at CH have strange idea's ... :P
[12:38]<@BC_Programming> Calum: he seems to think all PSUs are the same and the only reason they have different prices is marketing
[12:38]<@Calum> Craig-Work: too right, hah
[12:38]<@Calum> BC_Programming: ah, one of those...
[12:39]<@Calum> today the debate was about a Kingwin PSU, shame on you camerongray :P
[12:39]<@BC_Programming> haha I like the "new Builder" thread.... Computer_Commando is trying to say Gigabyte is a bad choice because this one time he saw a Gigabyte board that had problems...
[12:40]<@Calum> ah yeah, that was a good one too heh
[12:40]<@Calum> I once saw an MSI board that didn't have problems
[12:40]<@Calum> oh wait, no I didn't
[12:41]<@Calum> it's not like every Giga/Asus board ever made is perfect, but their failure rate is way lower
[12:41]<Tux2> lol, I've got an MSI board in my 6 year old desktop and it's still running perfectly
[12:42]<@BC_Programming> you've been lucky
[12:42]<@Calum> *chokes*...nah, I may have exaggerated slightly heh, I've just always had issues with MSI products
[12:43]<+camerongray> lol yeah, just never heard of Kingwin
[12:43]<Tux2> lol, I've also got an MSI motherboard in my new desktop and it's over 2 years old
[12:43]<Tux2> still running perfectly
[12:43]<@BC_Programming> So now it seems, we need a super updater to update the update database on different customer sites... this is confusing
[12:43]<@Calum> camerongray: you need to learn the art of PSUs :) Kingwin are a solid brand, mostly Superflower rebadges
[12:43]<+camerongray> lol
[12:43]<+camerongray> Made me think of "Winpower"
[12:43]<@Calum> updateception
[12:44]<@Calum> yeah their name is suspicious heh
[12:44]<@BC_Programming> My suggestion was the groundbreaking idea of just pointing their updaters at one of our servers
[12:44]<+camerongray> What would you say about Corsair CX - I know they aren't the best but are they decent for cheaper machines?
[12:45]<@Calum> CX series are alright, kind of lower midrange
[12:45]<+camerongray> Ahh cool
[12:45]<+camerongray> My granny has a CX430 :P
[12:45]<@Calum> I try to avoid them as usually a Seasonic based unit is around the same price
[12:45]<@Calum> but they're not terrible buys
[12:45]<+camerongray> Ahh coo
[12:45]<+camerongray> cool*
[12:45]<+camerongray> I wouldn't use one to run GPUs.etc
[12:45]<@BC_Programming> http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7869890&sku=C19-2002
[12:45]<+camerongray> Just machines like my granny's
[12:46]<@BC_Programming> That's the SSD I have in my cart right now
[12:46]<@BC_Programming> need to wait for Paypal to xfer so it's not set in stone
[12:46]<+camerongray> I red that as having an SSD in your cat :P
[12:46]<@BC_Programming> lol
[12:46]<@Calum> camerongray: yeah for that sort of stuff they're fine, sometimes the CX430 is a ludicrously low price too so it's worth it. But also the Antec 380W unit or the XFX 450 is often in the same range
[12:46]<@Calum> BC_Programming: nice :)
[12:47]<+camerongray> Ahh yeah
[12:47]<+camerongray> You should write a thread about them
[12:47]<+camerongray> Would be really handy
[12:47]<@BC_Programming> I was thinking I Would need cables but remembered I'm replacing drives so I already have them
[12:47]<@BC_Programming> but then I thought
[12:47]<@BC_Programming> what if my HD problems are because of the SATA cables?
[12:47]<+camerongray> I'm always like "Antec do some good units, but others aren't"
[12:47]<@Calum> camerongray: the info is usually out there already, don't really want to just duplicate it. But I might create an FAQ with useful links
[12:48]<+camerongray> Ahh yeah
[12:48]<@Calum> hah
[12:48]<@Calum> I'm terrible in front of a camera
[12:48]<+camerongray> So am I :P
[12:48]<@Calum> and I have no time at all for that kind of stuff anyway :(
[12:48]<@BC_Programming> I'm going to have to start recording again when I get new hard drives
[12:48]<+camerongray> Aww
[12:48]<+camerongray> YAY!
[12:48]<@Calum> do you still have your youtube cameron?
[12:48]<@BC_Programming> no excuse now that I have a headset
[12:48]<+camerongray> I have the account yeah, not uploaded in ages though
[12:49]<+camerongray> Will probably just throw crap up whenever I feel like it
[12:49]<@Calum> heh
[12:49]<@BC_Programming> though the fact that they want me to have a headset makes me think I might be like teir 3 support or something
[12:49]<@Calum> what's the link?
[12:49]<+camerongray> Maybe something when I get my new lapotp
[12:49]<+camerongray> laptop
[12:49]<@Calum> I found it
[12:49]<@BC_Programming> my laptop has an SSHD :D
[12:49]<+camerongray> http://www.youtube.com/user/camerongray1515/videos
[12:50]<@BC_Programming> I wanted an SSD but there weren't any at the shop...
[12:50]<@Calum> heh
[12:50]<Craig-Work> Hahahah Cameron, your so scrawny :p
[12:50]<@BC_Programming> Mines better, my channel has Pony Music videos
[12:50]<+camerongray> lol, still the smae now
[12:50]<+camerongray> same*
[12:51]<+camerongray> Tall but thin
[12:51]<+camerongray> Those are ancient too
[12:51]<@Calum> I was debating over at OcUK because they just got in the Intel DC 3500 series SSDs - DC for datacentre, they're not exactly enterprise grade as the name suggests but they're pretty awesome. Everyone's ripping on them, completely missing the point...ah well heh
[12:51]<@Calum> I was tall and skinny, now I have a little pot belly, not sure where that came from
[12:51]<@Calum> still skinny apart from that
[12:51]<Craig-Work> HOLY CRAP IS THAT WHAT YOU SOUND LIKE CAM!?
[12:52]<@BC_Programming> yes he sounds scottish, I know how surprising that is
[12:52]<@Calum> lol
[12:52]<Craig-Work> Nah, I imaginied his voice to be higher,
[12:52]<@Calum> Cassie just got overly excited over me playing one of your videos
[12:52]<Craig-Work> He has quite a voive.
[12:52]<Craig-Work> :P
[12:52]<@Calum> she likes your accent
[12:52]<Craig-Work> :P hahahahaha
[12:52]<@Calum> I think I have competition here
[12:53]<Craig-Work> Nicely done camerongray
[12:53]<@BC_Programming> heh
[12:53]<@BC_Programming> I watched his review videos when they were new
[12:54]<Craig-Work> Yer dun. :P hahahah He should do a sound board :P
[12:56]<@Calum> heh
[13:01]<@BC_Programming> heh now it's "How can we recreate the databases and tables"
[13:02]<@BC_Programming> I've been tempted to quote myself from like a month or more ago where I said "We should make the applications create the tables and databases they want to use"
[13:12]<@Calum> OK, I have a probably dumb networking question but my brain is kind of fried at the minute, thought I'd throw this out there and get some thoughts...
[13:12]<@BC_Programming> that is dumb
[13:12]<@BC_Programming> sorry just practicing
[13:12]<@Calum> hah
[13:13] * wonderwoman (Mibbit@mib-6373825A.cable.virginm.net) has joined #glitchpc
[13:13]<@Calum> I have a modem/router that I intend to demote to just a modem, and I'll be buying a new router...that's fine so far, I know how to do that even when my brain isn't working well
[13:14]<@Calum> but, I'm thinking of getting another router for the other room, to run some other stuff off that may be generating heacy traffic
[13:14]<@Calum> *heavy
[13:14]<@Calum> that's going to cause problems, having two routers, isn't it?
[13:14]<@BC_Programming> how so?
[13:15]<@BC_Programming> or do you mean, two modems
[13:15]<@Calum> no, two routers, one modem
[13:15]<@Calum> the modem will only have one port though, so one router will be plugged into the other
[13:16]<@BC_Programming> that would work, though it won't really help with your heavy traffic thing
[13:16]<@BC_Programming> I've had a few routers chained before
[13:16]<@Calum> mmm, ok. How about a switch connected to the modem and both routers, would that be any better?
[13:16]<@BC_Programming> what is the heavy traffic? Ifi t's only on that one lan it would work
[13:17]<@Calum> nah, it's going out through the modem
[13:17]<@Calum> is there a way to deal with that, keeping the traffic on one router from bogging down the other?
[13:17]<@BC_Programming> oh, you can't really stop that then, but you might be able to use QoS on the first router to control how much priority the second router and it's LAN gets
[13:17]<@Calum> true
[13:18]<@Calum> I'm thinking I might just beef up the router and use one
[13:19]<@Calum> I'm not too bothered about the traffic affecting my internet usage, I know I can use QoS and turn priority down on that, I'm just thinking about the router itself
[13:19]<@BC_Programming> I Had my laptop connected to a wireless modem/router, and had that laptop bridge the wireless connection to it's ethernet which was connected to another wireless router which was used by my desktop and a few laptops and stuff
[13:19] * wonderwoman (Mibbit@mib-6373825A.cable.virginm.net) Quit (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)
[13:19]<@BC_Programming> because some stuff refused to connect to the main wireless modem/router but worked on the second one
[13:19]<@Calum> ah right
[13:20]<@BC_Programming> as in, that's why I did it, it worked fine :P
[13:20]<@Calum> heh fair enough
[13:20]<@Calum> I think I'll see how it goes with a single router, there might not be any need for any more horsepower in that respect
[13:22]<@Calum> sorry that was a bit dumb heh, just not had much sleep so my brain isn't working well at all lol
[13:22]<@Calum> I'll head off and try to catch some sleep now heh, catch you later :)
