[05:37]<@Mulreay> cool
[05:37]<PCdoc> hot
[05:38]<@BC_Programming> BEARS
[05:39]<@Mulreay> London tomorrow.. whoo hooo atleast I can give my Dad some time off by running the shop for a few days
[05:40]<@BC_Programming> You should take an initiative and put the surgeon back into the old Barber-Surgeon shoppe
[05:40]<@BC_Programming> "Free spleen removal with haircut"
[05:40]<@Mulreay> lol
[05:41]<@Mulreay> The lads all have cut throat razors so it's douable
[05:41]<@BC_Programming> ahh those are the ones that are practically knives aren't they
[05:41]<@BC_Programming> you could shave a beard off with those things
[05:42]<@Mulreay> heh
[05:42]<@BC_Programming> I think I ought to get a wireless card for my desktop
[05:43]<@BC_Programming> having to use my laptop and bridge the wireless to a wired connection is just weird
[05:43]<@Mulreay> I'm hoping the guy from Dubai who is part of the royal family comes in whilst I'm down.. he tipped me £100 last time and gave my Dad £1000 to take my mum on holiday
[05:44]<@BC_Programming> maybe this time he will give you one of his concubines as a tip
[05:44]<@BC_Programming> can never have enough of those
[05:45]<@Mulreay> He pays for everything in 50's £15 for the haircut gives £50 £10 for the shave gives you £50 manicure and pedicure £38 pays £100 then tips the staff £50 each and hands my dad a bonus of anything from £100 to £1000 depending on how many £50's he has
[05:46]<@Mulreay> Benefits of havin g a barbers in one of the most expensive places in London
[05:47]<@BC_Programming> you should look into making it a barbers / pet store
[05:47]<@Mulreay> Looking forward to the reasoning
[05:48]<@BC_Programming> I mean after you get a nice close shave, what better way to show how close it is than to rub your face with a soft kitten
[05:48]<@BC_Programming> Don't forget to rotate the stock, make sure the kittens stay fresh
[05:48]<@Mulreay> lol, I bet people down gthere would pay for that as an extra as well
[05:49]<@BC_Programming> "Would you like a shaverub kitten?"
[05:50]<@Mulreay> I'll pitch it to my dad
[05:51]<@BC_Programming> have to be careful of the wording, people might think it's a barber shop for kittens
[05:51]<@Mulreay> 'Graham were almost out of Kittens' will be a common phrase in the shop
[05:52]<@Mulreay> Bringing a bag of kittens home rather than towels will be weird though
[05:53]<@BC_Programming> A full dump truck of kittens
[05:53]<@Mulreay> lol
[05:53]<@BC_Programming> for the kitten spa
[05:54]<@Mulreay> We did have rufa fish in the shop at one point to eat peoples feet so he's not totally against the use of the animal kingdom in his business plan
[05:55]<@BC_Programming> yeah
[05:55]<@BC_Programming> "get a haircut or the cute little bunny get's it"
[05:56]<@Mulreay> heh
[05:57]<@BC_Programming> See this cute kitten? See that steamroller inching towards it? If you get a haircut we'll stop the steamroller
[05:58]<@Mulreay> lol, or have a 007 lazer inching towards a box of kittens
[05:58]<@BC_Programming> everybody has to wear eyewear when they get inside
[05:58]<+camerongray> Oh BC_Programming/Mulreay having a good ol' piracy argument with guitar_man
[05:58]<+camerongray> Who can't see it's stealing!
[05:58]<@BC_Programming> of course it's not actually dangerous but just a laser pointer but the pyrotechnics would make it totally believable
[05:59]<@BC_Programming> and there could be special promotions
[05:59]<@BC_Programming> like baby turtle day
[06:01]<@Mulreay> I prefer to call it aquirement camerongray.. steal is such an ugly word
[06:01]<+camerongray> I know you are both pirates :P
[06:02]<+camerongray> But guitar_man is a tit
[06:02]<@BC_Programming> yeah guitar_man doesn't recognize it as piracy
[06:02]<@BC_Programming> because "it comes from Microcrud"
[06:02]<@BC_Programming> or something
[06:03]<@Mulreay> But I agree it's wrong and intellectual theft no matter how you try to paint it
[06:03]<PCdoc> Not a single day passed camerongray and guitar_man arguing over something
[06:03]<+camerongray> Nah, because the are theifs because they release new versions and sell them again or something
[06:03]<+camerongray> PCdoc: Because he's an idiot!
[06:03]<@BC_Programming> Vista Prelude yadda yadda
[06:03]<PCdoc> yadda?! thats a Zynga Yoville's word :P
[06:04]<@BC_Programming> no it's from Seinfeld ~1994 at least
[06:04]<PCdoc> oh
[06:04]<@Mulreay> If I was rich I would pay for all my stuff.. anything I beleive will help the developer I pay for.. I do have LOTS of pirated stuff but I also have LOTS of paid for stuff
[06:04]<PCdoc> ok and now why did he call me ?
[06:05]<@BC_Programming> he's learning to use a phone PCDoc
[06:05]<PCdoc> BC_Programming: are u there?? I did not say anything there and gm called my name
[06:05]<PCdoc> i wonder why
[06:06]<PCdoc> <guitar_man> never said that , is your adamant calling of theft that as you know bugs me , as i said is a matter of perception , EH PCDOC
[06:06]<@Mulreay> Don't call him GM it makes me nervous
[06:06]<@BC_Programming> back in guitar_man's day they didn't have phones- "long distance communication" was accomplished by getting a baseball pitcher to throw a can with a string tied around it
[06:06]<@BC_Programming> I almost typo'd can into cat, which makes it a bit funnier actually
[06:06]<+camerongray> hahah!
[06:06]<+camerongray> BC_Programming: What do you think of GM?
[06:07]<+camerongray> Sum him up in one word
[06:07]<@Mulreay> Seriously
[06:07]<PCdoc> G** Mo***
[06:07]<@BC_Programming> That's two words
[06:07]<+camerongray> Well, my experiement there failed
[06:07]<+camerongray> Was hoping BC would say "Idiot" or something
[06:08]<@BC_Programming> No I'm trying to think of something
[06:08]<PCdoc> idiot is a small word ...
[06:08]<+camerongray> Then I'd be like "I was asking about Mulreay" :P
[06:08]<PCdoc> yeah innovative
[06:08]<@Mulreay> There is only room for one GM in here and it's full
[06:08]<+camerongray> haha
[06:09]<PCdoc> Geeze Monkey
[06:09]<PCdoc> lol
[06:09]<PCdoc> hahahhhaa
[06:09]<PCdoc> gm got kicked
[06:10]<PCdoc> by quantos
[06:10]<@BC_Programming> Guitar_man summed up in a single word, I'm not sure you can really capture the sheer cornucopia- the plethora of insipidity- and the overwhelming lack of intelligence into a single word, really
[06:10]<@BC_Programming> but if I had to choose a single word
[06:10]<@BC_Programming> I'd say "cornhead"
[06:10]<+camerongray> Mulreay: too late :P
[06:10]<@BC_Programming> It makes no sense... just like him
[06:10]<+camerongray> he was kicket :P
[06:10]<PCdoc> ok Mulreay ur too late .. he is kicked
[06:10]<+camerongray> kicked*
[06:12]<@Mulreay> Wow, I just joined to see the channel not to see him.. as I know Quantos wants to talk to me as he chatted on facebook
[06:12]<@BC_Programming> yeha I don't think mulreay cards about cornhead
[06:12]<+camerongray> Yeah, he's a nice guy
[06:12]<@BC_Programming> cares*
[06:12]<@BC_Programming> I'm calling Guitar_man cornhead from now on btw
[06:12]<PCdoc> but actually quantos should not have kicked him coz when quantos said this has to end, gm must be typing at that time and he pressed enter soon after that
[06:13]<@BC_Programming> oh cool, point to us the reality in which that matters
[06:13]<PCdoc> BC_Programming: like we call guitar_man gm, pls dont call cornhead as ch coz that means computerhope :-s
[06:14]<@BC_Programming> ok ilkll stup usin pucntuntion and spelin propar too cuz it seems lik u prefar it dat reay
[06:15]<@Mulreay> There is NO excuse to type like a 12 year old in here PCdoc
[06:16]<@Mulreay> jk
[06:17]<PCdoc> Well informally I type like that and English is not our main language so pls excuse me for that. I am used to chat language ...
[06:17]<@BC_Programming> ahh see we're used to english
[06:17]<PCdoc> yeah you are from USA and UK. so..
[06:17]<@BC_Programming> I am? huh
[06:17]<@BC_Programming> TIL
[06:18]<@Mulreay> WOW that's a proper mistake there
[06:18]<@Mulreay> PCdoc you should apologise
[06:18]<PCdoc> :P
[06:19]<@BC_Programming> Qapla'
[06:26]<@Mulreay> Not used that for ages
[06:27]<PCdoc> Mulreay: wow!! why that now?
[06:29]<@Mulreay> You called BC_Programming an American.. it seemed appropriate

[09:22]<+camerongray> Oh yeah jacky, did I ever show you my latest purchase?
[09:22]<@jacky> you buy so much stuff... I can't be sure
[09:22]<@jacky> heh
[09:23]<@Mulreay> heh
[09:23]<+camerongray> jacky: https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/602841_744777192216090_1779423409_n.jpg
[09:24]<@jacky> looks like some of my first computers
[09:24]<+camerongray> Yeha
[09:24]<+camerongray> IBM PC XT
[09:24]<+camerongray> 5160
[09:28]<@jacky> does it work 100%?
[09:29]<+camerongray> As far as I can tell yes
[09:29]<+camerongray> Had to replace the hard drive
[09:29]<+camerongray> And remove a decoupling capacitor that was short curcuiting on the mobo
[09:29]<@jacky> was it huuuuuge? like 40 meg?
[09:29]<+camerongray> But after that it fired right up
[09:30]<+camerongray> Original was 10mb, new one is 20mb
[09:30]<+camerongray> :P
[09:30]<@jacky> wow! curcuiting??? it was curcuiting??
[09:30]<@jacky> :)
[09:30]<+camerongray> haha
[09:30]<@jacky> "new one is 20mb" <<< new? NEW ???
[09:30]<@jacky> hehehe
[09:31]<+camerongray> haha
[09:31]<@jacky> trying to remember... wasn't there something like a 2 GB limit, with DOS?
[09:32]<@jacky> nobody thought we would EVER need that much space....
[09:32]<@jacky> speaking of which... what OS is on it?
[09:32]<@Mulreay> My Dad bought a 400mhz cpu comuter and a guy said 'why would you ever need that speed?'
[09:33]<@Mulreay> computer*
[09:33]<+camerongray> Currently has MS DOS 5.00 because I had it handy, going to put the original on which was IBM PC DOS 3.2
[09:33]<@jacky> I bought a 486 DX33, and an employee thought I wanted it to run the whole company on.... hehehe
[09:33]<@jacky> camerongray: downgrading??? heheheeh
[09:33]<+camerongray> haha
[09:34]<+camerongray> Intel 8088 CPU, 640kb RAM
[09:34]<@jacky> that's what is in that computer? an 8088 ?
[09:34]<@jacky> an 8088 won't run Dos 5.0, will it??
[09:35] * Nat (nat@mib-D760DC52.west.biz.rr.com) Quit (Quit: zzzZZZzzzZZzzZZZzz)
[09:38]<+camerongray> Seems to
[09:39]<@jacky> interesting
[09:40]<+camerongray> Got to see if I can get my Null Modem cable working tonight to copy stuff on
[09:40]<@jacky> I wonder if I still remember batch file commands... whew... been a while
[09:40]<+camerongray> Hooking up the floppy drive to an old PC and having to use Win95 in safe mode to access it isn't ideal
[09:40]<@jacky> camerongray: no floppy drive?
[09:40]<+camerongray> Yeah, but it's 5.25"
[09:40]<@jacky> Win95? how did that come into the picture?
[09:41]<@jacky> got a 3.5 inch drive laying around?
[09:41]<+camerongray> I do but it won't work in the XT :P
[09:41]<+camerongray> Couldn't get 2000 or XP to work with the floppy drive
[09:41]<+camerongray> And 95 was the newest DOS based Windows version I had
[09:42]<@jacky> XT won't handle a 3.5 floppy drive?
[09:42]<+camerongray> So I was booting XP from one drive, downloading stuff into the 95 drive, booting 95 and using that to write to the floppy
[09:42]<+camerongray> jacky: Not the standard controller
[09:42]<@jacky> ah. ok
[09:42]<@jacky> shows you how much I remember....
[09:42]<+camerongray> Would also need a bracket to fit it
[09:42]<+camerongray> I mean, you could do it, but you'd need another ISA card and a mounting bracket
[09:43]<@jacky> bracket? bracket?? don't you all have Bubble Yum and duct tape over there??
[09:43]<+camerongray> haha
[09:43]<+camerongray> My hard drive is a bit hacked together :P
[09:43]<+camerongray> New drive is half height compared to the old full height one leaving a gap in the case
[09:43]<+camerongray> So I took the faceplate off the old drive and mouted it to the case
[09:43]<@jacky> null modem cable... tring to remember... was that connected to a 9 pin serial port on both ends, and had one wire transposed?
[09:44]<@jacky> something like that....
[09:44]<+camerongray> Hard to do whenyou don't want to damage the case :P
[09:44]<+camerongray> jacky: Yeah
[09:44]<+camerongray> Mine is 25pin on one end and 9 on the other
[09:44]<@jacky> See! I can remember some stuff
[09:44]<+camerongray> So can go from the XT to a (Pentium III) laptop
[09:44]<@jacky> then yo ucan use it to copy files?
[09:44]<+camerongray> yeah
[09:44]<@jacky> what happens? it sees a d: drive?
[09:45]<+camerongray> Nah, need special transfer software like 'LapLink'
[09:45]<@jacky> that's it!
[09:45]<@jacky> I had that at one time....
[09:45]<+camerongray> Laptop is old but enough to get online, download files and extract archives to then move over
[09:45]<+camerongray> jacky: Nice!
[09:45]<@jacky> oh.. wait.. just realized... you had Dos 5.0 on 5:25 floppies??
[09:45]<+camerongray> Yep :D
[09:45]<+camerongray> Original set
[09:45]<@jacky> wow
[09:45]<@jacky> double wow
[09:45]<+camerongray> 5 disks
[09:46]<@jacky> you know... that might be worth something, to somebody, someday
[09:46]<+camerongray> No outer box but the disks are in the MS branded sleeves
[09:46]<@jacky> don't ruin them... hang on to them
[09:46]<+camerongray> Yeah
[09:47]<@jacky> so what are you going to do with the computer? just keep it for a collectors item?
[09:48]<+camerongray> Yeah
[09:49]<@jacky> cool
[09:49]<+camerongray> Unlike this knob: http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,138922.0.html
[09:49]<@jacky> oh... this: <+camerongray> And remove a decoupling capacitor that was short curcuiting on the mobo <<< how did you manage to find the bad cap?
[09:50]<+camerongray> Multimeter - Zero resitance through it
[09:50]<+camerongray> Was shorting +12v to ground and causing the PSU to shut off
[09:50]<@jacky> you went part by part, checking everything, until you found it??
[09:50]<@jacky> that's a pretty good job. :)
[09:50]<+camerongray> Found the fault was on the 12v line from the PSU connector
[09:50]<+camerongray> Then started testing caps
[09:51]<@jacky> Found the fault was on the 12v line from the PSU connector <<< how?
[09:51]<+camerongray> Tested with multimeter between the different points - Zero resistance between +12v and ground
[09:51]<@jacky> ah
[09:51]<@jacky> very neat
[09:52]<@jacky> I thought you were a 100% software type guy. didn't know you had some basic electronics background too
[09:52]<+camerongray> And PSU worked fine when the mobo was unplugged so knew the fault lay with the board
[09:52]<@jacky> or I'd forgotten it
[09:52]<+camerongray> I've played with electronics before
[09:52]<@jacky> fun stuff, isn't it?
[09:52]<@jacky> :)
[09:52]<+camerongray> Nothing super advanced but I know the basics
[09:53]<@jacky> I used to know some basics. too rusty now....
[09:53]<+camerongray> Ahh
[09:53]<@jacky> <+camerongray> Unlike this knob: http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,138922.0.html <<< knob?
[09:53]<+camerongray> Oh, Scottish insult :P
[09:53]<@jacky> ohhh.
[09:53]<@jacky> I'm skimming and reading... finally text searched the page for "knob"
[09:53]<@jacky> heheheehe
[09:53]<+camerongray> lol
[09:54]<+camerongray> "I got a rare, collectable PC, lets take it apart and fit PC parts probably worth, at most £100 inside it"
[09:54]<@jacky> you are referring to his ruination of a collectors item
[09:54]<+camerongray> Yeah
[09:54]<+camerongray> The end PC would be worth like £100
[09:54]<@jacky> well... it is folks doing stuff like that, that makes the few left out there even more collectible
[09:54]<+camerongray> True
[09:55]<@jacky> I still have that 486DX 33 . If I recall, the only thing I did to it was to add a 1x CD-ROM
[09:55]<@jacky> last time I plugged it in, it still booted... but that was years ago
[09:56]<+camerongray> Nice!

[09:56]<@jacky> 14 inch color monitor
[09:56]<@jacky> brand name of computer is Leading Edge
[09:56]<@jacky> I think the guts are very proprietary... like the cpu is mounted on its own card that plugs in the mb

[09:57]<+camerongray> Oh yeah, I've seen them mentioned before
[09:57]<PCdoc> hey jacky
[09:57]<@jacky> at the time, I think it was an OK brand
[09:57]<@jacky> but, like many, didn't it fizzle out?
[09:57]<+camerongray> Liek here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iY_Lbnv7ycA
[09:57]<+camerongray> Like*
[09:59]<@jacky> is that a desktop case or tower?
[09:59]<@jacky> (jumping back n forth to here...)
[09:59]<+camerongray> My first PC was an 'Ambra' - Partof IBM: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AMBRA_Computer_Corporation

[10:04]<+camerongray> £50 - 12" monochrome
[10:04]<+camerongray> Brand new in box

[10:23]<PCdoc> he says IF IT finds virus its good.
[10:23]<PCdoc> if there is IF possibility then why recommend ?
[10:23]<@jacky> umm... nothing will find a virus if one isn't there
[10:23]<@jacky> or at least.. .shouldn't
[10:24]<@jacky> so, it looks like perfect sense to me
[10:24]<PCdoc> it does not to me. it looked rather like sarcastiuc comment
[10:24]<PCdoc> sarcastic *
[10:24]<@jacky> perhaps there was more to it... I don't know
[10:25]<@jacky> at any rate... the last I knew, Avast was supposed to be ok
[10:25]<@jacky> but that is getting to be old info
[10:25]<@jacky> were it me, I'd ask somebody that is apt to stay up to date. camerongray, Calum, maybe BC
[10:26]<@jacky> I have Avira, probably because way back when I installed it, somebody recommended it
[10:26]<@jacky> I must have had a reason for going with Avira, over Avast. no idea what it was, now
[10:27]<PCdoc> here I have heard avast has become like old norton, it slows down PC and is a resource hog
[10:27]<PCdoc> I use Eset Nod32
[10:27]<@jacky> is that commercial software though?
[10:27]<@jacky> not free
[10:28]<PCdoc> which eset ?
[10:28]<PCdoc> yes
[10:28]<PCdoc> not free
[10:28]<@jacky> thought so
[10:28]<@jacky> the interesting part... I'm trying to remember if EVER... even once... if Avira has warned me, legitamately
[10:28]<@Mulreay> I use MS security essentials.. no bloatware and works fine
[10:28]<PCdoc> I've been using since year 2000 and I recently won a year license from softpedia for writing a good review for eset and I was selected as one of the winners :D
[10:29]<@jacky> Mulreay: I think I'd heard that, about MS security essentials. cool
[10:30]<PCdoc> Eset Nod32 according to me is the best one. It also blocks infected websites and ad banners if they are infected. It blocks the website dis-allowing you to proceed further
[10:30]<@Mulreay> One of the CH experts for malware told me to use it jacky not had a problem since
[10:30]<PCdoc> and rest virus blocking is superb
[10:31]<@jacky> PCdoc: I have some sort of ad blocker installed on Firefox here, and script blocker too. I don't see a LOT of stuff others have to put up with. hehehe
[10:32]<@jacky> Mulreay: yep. the thing is... stuff changes. give it another couple years, and something ELSE will be better
[10:32]<@jacky> Mulreay: "...not had a problem since" <<< but, did you have problems before?
[10:32]<@Mulreay> jacky: Of course but it's been 3 years using this and it works for now
[10:33]<@Mulreay> No problems since
[10:33]<@Mulreay> More than happy with it
[10:34]<+camerongray> I use MSE too
[10:34]<@jacky> you did have problems before? that's interesting
[10:34]<+camerongray> Same with the PCs at work
[10:34]<@jacky> I've never had problems... at all

[10:37]<@jacky> is that his name? Prince Hahaha ?
[10:37]<@jacky> sounds Nigerian to me....
[10:37]<@Mulreay> HEY HEY he will send that £20,000,000 so stop having a go at him.. these things take time
[10:40]<@jacky> IF you send him just a measly little 1000 , right?
[10:40]<@Mulreay> 2000 actually but it's an investment
[10:41]<@jacky> ah
[10:41]<@jacky> ok

[10:43]<@jacky> try it

[10:44]<@jacky> hehehe
[10:44]<@jacky> no.. open a PM window with the bot
[10:44]<@jacky> and type the command in it

[10:55]<@jacky> hehhe

[15:52]<@BC_Programming> it <might> have format /s I suppose
[15:53]<@BC_Programming> then you would just have to copy command.com
[15:53]<+camerongray> ahh
[15:53]<+camerongray> I'll try writing the image :P
[15:55]<@BC_Programming> speaking of images getting postgres and Jasper to show an image from a bytea field is difficult
[16:10]<jamer> My dads computer is fucked... And he wants me to use my desktop to fix it... God damn... He has 2 computers hes just too fucking lazy
[16:10]<@BC_Programming> well that's civil
[16:33]<@BC_Programming> I'm tempted to order a pizza
[16:33]<@BC_Programming> because I can do that now, what with money and stuff
[16:33]<Quantos> What are you going to order it to do?
[16:33]<@BC_Programming> lol
[16:33]<@BC_Programming> come to me
[16:33]<Quantos> Hehehe
[16:39]<Quantos> Hey guys what does this mean? Channel joinflood detected (limit is 5 per 15 seconds), setting mode +R
[16:39]<@BC_Programming> +R allows only registered nicks to join
[16:40]<Quantos> The strange part is that I wasn't joining any channels when it did that
[16:40]<@BC_Programming> it's the mode on a channel
[16:42]<Zuwer> Hm, that kid seems persistent, they're flooding channels that having nothing to do with #CH.
[16:43]<Quantos> Oh I see, I thought it was telling me that I joined too many times
[16:43]<@BC_Programming> nope, channel majigger
[16:44]<Quantos> So you guys were sent the sys notice too?
[16:44]<@BC_Programming> no
[16:45]<@BC_Programming> well
[16:45]<Quantos> Hmmm, I wonder why it was sent to me
[16:45]<@BC_Programming> I imagine those in the #computerhope channel saw it at least
[16:46]<Quantos> I think some of them did
[16:46]<@BC_Programming> hmm perhaps I shouldn't have volunteered to pay some bills
[16:46]<Quantos> LOL
[16:47]<@BC_Programming> well I wasn't expecting them to be like 200$ each
[16:47]<Quantos> I don't even like volunteering to pay my own bills
[16:47]<@BC_Programming> well I sorta need the internet :P
[16:48]<@BC_Programming> turns out the Internet part is one of the cheapests parts
[16:50]<Quantos> You have a cable bundle?
[16:51]<@BC_Programming> Not me technically it's my stepdad
[16:51]<Quantos> Ah
[16:52]<@BC_Programming> there $150 dollars
[16:52]<@BC_Programming> and I'll finish it off next pay
[16:52]<Quantos> I had a full bundle with Shaw. Internet, phone, and cable
[16:52]<@BC_Programming> I like making twice as much as everybody else haha
[16:52]<Quantos> After watching the prices slowly creep up I calculated that the home phone was costing about $60
[16:53]<Quantos> That got cancelled toot sweet
[16:53] * aden (nobody@669D983.6AFF3BFA.B0B89B5B.IP) has joined #glitchpc
[16:53]<Quantos> Considering the commercials for the service said the home phone was $24.99
[16:53]<Quantos> After a six month rate at $19
[16:53]<@BC_Programming> yeah they get pretty sneaky
[16:54]<@BC_Programming> that's why we switched to Telus I think.. the bill had a bunch of obviously made up fees
[16:54]<@BC_Programming> and when we asked they actually said "Oh, no idea what that is"
[16:55]<Quantos> Cable here is run underground, why was I getting a 'tree trimming charge'?
[16:55]<@BC_Programming> lol
[16:55]<Quantos> I don't own any trees that grow underground
[16:56]<@BC_Programming> they need to maintain their exquisite topiaries
[16:56]<aden> quantos: there's always roots
[16:56]<Quantos> They can do that on their own dime
[16:56]<Quantos> Yeah, that's true
[16:57]<@BC_Programming> hmm I'm not sure if I paid it properly but I'm not about to do it again in case I did lol
[17:01]<@BC_Programming> my next new Work Order is gonna be the Update Program to update the components of the program :D Lead Dev liked the Updater I made for my programs and wants something similar
[17:08]<@BC_Programming> I like how I've not bought a single computer-thang since I started getting money again
[17:08]<@BC_Programming> you'd think I'd do that fairly quick, what with all my hard drives on the brink of failing
[17:08]<Quantos> How hard is it to write an updater? It doesn't sound easy
[17:09]<Quantos> Of course everything in programming is greek to me
[17:12]<@BC_Programming> http://www.bc-programming.com/images/BCUpdater2.png
[17:12]<@BC_Programming> That's what my updater looks like
[17:14]<@BC_Programming> about 5K lines of source code. That one acquires the update information from a little PHP module I wrote on my website that delivers the same information found on the downloads page
[17:14]<@BC_Programming> for work it will probably be retrieving the information in some other manner but I can probably use a lot of the same code
[17:14]<Quantos> Wow
[17:15]<Quantos> Way cool
[17:15]<@BC_Programming> the little download progressey thing also shows the speed when it's downloading
[17:15] * Zuwer (Mibbit@mib-9196E61D.jetstream.xtra.co.nz) Quit (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)
[17:16]<Quantos> Wow
[17:16]<Quantos> How long did it take for you to work out?
[17:18]<@BC_Programming> I don't remember... technically I guess it would include the time I took before that to create the downloads database and whatnot on the website too
[17:18]<Quantos> Hmm, that makes sense.
[17:18]<@BC_Programming> It was something I dabbled with and improved over time
[17:18]<Quantos> So you're telling me it took quite a while :P
[17:20]<@BC_Programming> yeah now I can hook a lot of applications into it easily
[17:20]<@BC_Programming> same library can also handle product keys and stuff
[17:21]<Quantos> Hmm, very versatile then as well.
[17:21]<@BC_Programming> and if I add a program to my download page
[17:21]<@BC_Programming> bam... it appears inside the updater
[17:21]<Quantos> It sounds like it's pretty easy to use too
[17:22]<@BC_Programming> Of course the updater isn't one of those annoying things that auto-starts or something :P normally each program only checks to see for updates to itself and prompts if it finds one, otherwise it is usually added through a menu or something to show that particular window
[17:22]<Quantos> Cool
[17:23]<@BC_Programming> ahh here's one where a download is occuring
[17:23]<@BC_Programming> http://www.bc-programming.com/images/listviewshow.png
[17:24]<@BC_Programming> It's fun to make them race
[17:25]<@BC_Programming> also, yes, I do seem to use my webhost as if it was a image host
[17:25]<Quantos> Do you mean as in picture images, or images of a drive?
[17:26]<@BC_Programming> pictures
[17:26]<@BC_Programming> like when I put a picture in a forum post or something
[17:26]<@BC_Programming> I'll almost always upload it to my website and use it there, rather than say imageshack or something
[17:26]<Quantos> yeah, that's what I thought you meant
[17:29]<Quantos> Well, I need to walk down to Wal-Mart and pick something up for dinner, back in a few hours guys

[19:51]<Quantos> Hey guys
[19:55]<@BC_Programming> wb
[19:56]<Quantos> Thanks man
[20:00]<Quantos> So BC, what would be a good programming language to start off with, that'll run on linux?
[20:00]<Quantos> Something that can give me a taste of it
[20:00]<@BC_Programming> Python would work
[20:01] * aden (nobody@669D983.6AFF3BFA.B0B89B5B.IP) Quit (Quit: be seein ya)
[20:01]<@BC_Programming> there are lots of languages you can use on any system but Python is usually installed on Linux by default and it's not to complicated to get started with
[20:02]<Quantos> Cool, thanks man, that sounds like a good starting point

[20:08]<+Craig> !rerun

[20:49]<+Craig> Have you talked to, or seen Mulreay today?
[20:49]<+Craig> !seen Mulreay
[20:49]<+Craig> ...
[20:49]<@BC_Programming> not that I recall
[20:49]<+Craig> !lastspoke Mulreay
[20:49]<+Craig> Hmmm wonder how his application went?
[21:04]<@BC_Programming> no idea
[21:05]<@BC_Programming> hey craig tell me if this sounds weird
[21:05]<@BC_Programming> is it weird that even though I have plenty of $ in my account that I half-expect transactions to be declined?
[21:07]<@BC_Programming> I guess I got used to it lol
[21:51]<@BC_Programming> Pizza rules
[22:13]<@BC_Programming> Oh Craig have you had a chance to give the latest Minecraft snapshot a go?
