[07:51]<@Mulreay> Well cNET had completely wrecked my PC.. been fixing everything for the last 4 hours.. only good thing to come from it is I know a LOT more about navigating, using and fixing win8
[07:51]<@BC_Programming> ahh well at least you can see a bright side :)
[07:51]<@BC_Programming> what happened?
[07:57]<@Mulreay> It wrecked firefox and ie by installing loads of add-ons that made them both unusable because of how slow they were.. malwarebytes picked up 9 adware/malware so deleted them restarted and they didn't like that so loads of programs stopped working like Steam, dropbox, VLC, malwarebytes and whatpulse.. whatpulse was completely wrecked.. message was 'something has gone very wrong the database
[07:57]<@Mulreay> is corrupt' so I tried re-installing some stuff but there were a bunch of DLL errors as non of the programs could find/use them as the malware was using them.. Ran full virus scans and picked off a couple more malware and finally had to do everything in safe mode to get it all working.. been a long morning
[07:57]<@BC_Programming> woah... what did you download?
[07:58]<@Mulreay> This is the best bit.. mIRC
[07:58]<@Mulreay> But there installers are FULL of crap
[07:58]<@Mulreay> I unchecked everything there was a LOT but still it completely went nuts on adware/malware
[07:59]<@BC_Programming> I seem to recall that somebody tested the various download websites
[07:59]<@BC_Programming> they took a piece of software that literally did nothing and uploaded it making a lot of claims, and nobody ever checked it out
[07:59]<@BC_Programming> Basically anybody can upload whatever they like to those sites... could be the MIRC you got from there was trojaned or something
[08:00]<@BC_Programming> I would have just copied my mIRC folder :P
[08:00]<@Mulreay> It was linked on the nirc website to cnet so.. not much else I could do about that
[08:00]<@Mulreay> mirc*
[08:00]<@Mulreay> I copied all the folders over after I had installed it
[08:00]<@BC_Programming> oh so it is linked
[08:01]<@Mulreay> yeah
[08:01]<@Mulreay> Loads of people complaing about them http://forums.cnet.com/7723-12543_102-580600/abandon-cnet-installers-repeatedly-full-of-malware/
[08:02]<@BC_Programming> hmm for me it downloaded what appears to be a legitimate installer
[08:02]<@BC_Programming> like for mIRC
[08:03]<@Mulreay> I think there is two.. one is a direct link (not as visible) and the other is the installer.. I must of in haste chose the installer
[08:03]<@BC_Programming> yeah that's what they bank on I think
[08:04]<@BC_Programming> I found this also: http://dottech.org/23420/cnet-crapware/
[08:04]<@BC_Programming> which reminds me I ought to do a bit of PC cleanup
[08:06]<@Mulreay> My PC is squeaky now after this long haul but like I said I learnt a lot about win8 through it.. fair enough there was a lot of 'WHY MS HAVE YOU MADE IT HARDER!!' but then when you learn the methods and use them a few times you kind of get why they did them
[08:06]<@BC_Programming> yeah same here
[08:07]<@BC_Programming> there are also some little things that I find neat, like how when you open a file it will sometimes have the little pop up about other applications that you could use to open it
[08:07]<@Mulreay> Now setting about re-installing like 20 steam games
[08:07]<@BC_Programming> and the copy dialog is super nerdy which I like
[08:07]<@Mulreay> Yeah i like that
[08:08]<@Mulreay> Some of the apps can be very useful on the start page as well
[08:09]<@BC_Programming> http://apps.microsoft.com/windows/en-us/app/basecamp-programming/b69bd1f4-78b1-4e90-ba20-2869cdd79dc2
[08:09]<@BC_Programming> heheh
[08:09]<@Mulreay> looking
[08:10]<@Mulreay> sweet
[08:10]<@BC_Programming> MS kept bothering me
[08:10]<@BC_Programming> "hey you wanna make a Win8 App"
[08:10]<@BC_Programming> "not really"
[08:10]<@BC_Programming> "you sure"
[08:10]<@BC_Programming> "yes"
[08:11]<@BC_Programming> I got curious enough to make one anyway though

[08:16]<@Mulreay> Oh it wants a license

[08:22]<@BC_Programming> can you install any store apps
[08:22]<@Mulreay> one sec

[10:21]<@BC_Programming> Hmm, who should we believe: This random guy that makes youtube videos for "tweaking" and plugs useless Registry Cleaners, or Mark Russinovich, who knows more about Windows Internals than anybody else in the World?
[10:22]<@BC_Programming> I think I'll personally go for the latter
[10:22]<@BC_Programming> GlarySoft Utilities! WTF installing that isn't a tweak
[10:22]<@BC_Programming> in fact running it on a clean win7 install completely destroyed the capabilities to use the Help Center!
[10:23]<@BC_Programming> I also think I coined a phrase
[10:23]<@BC_Programming> "Why correct the rumour mill when you can use it to grind your flour"
[10:30]<+camerongray> *face-everything*
[10:30]<@BC_Programming> I slammed him
[10:30]<@BC_Programming> it will be fun
[10:30]<@BC_Programming> I will respond to EVERY post he makes with much the same zeal
[10:30]<@BC_Programming> a war of attrition!
[10:31]<+camerongray> lol!
[10:36]<@BC_Programming> I tried to bait him as well, though I doubt he will read the topic I posted in

[10:36]<@BC_Programming> just waiting for the "you're just jealous" bit
[10:42]<+camerongray> lol!
[10:42]<@BC_Programming> yes I am crafty
[10:50]<@BC_Programming> I think it may be time also for me to create my intended series about Registry Cleaners
[10:51]<@BC_Programming> VM, Clean install 7, snapshot, and then install and run a few different registry cleaners and analyze what they find and how no doubt few of them agree
[10:54]<+camerongray> Yeah, would love to see that actually

[12:17]<@BC_Programming> I'm thinking I may have to shut down and crack open my computer... GPU should not be getting to 104
[12:18]<@Mulreay> Yeah that is a tad too warm
[12:19]<@BC_Programming> for some reason I have this fear of shutting down
[12:19]<@BC_Programming> as if I won't be able to get it started again or something
[12:19]<@Mulreay> Shut down and wait 20mins or so give everything a chance to cool off
[12:21]<@Mulreay> If you have compressed gas for blowing on stuff use that it will evaporate immediately and take the heat away
[12:22]<@BC_Programming> I'm not going to sit here and blow compressed air at the inside of my case to keep things at an operable temperature
[12:22]<@BC_Programming> My concern over not being able to boot again is because all of my hard drives are failing
[12:23]<@BC_Programming> Also last time I had to try around a dozen times to get it started again :/
[12:23]<@Mulreay> The suggestion was to cool everything down then look at the problem not sit there like a tit until the end of time blowing air at it
[12:24]<@BC_Programming> eh don't intend to wait after shut down to crack'er open anyway... don't have compressed air anyways so that's a no go regardless methinks
[12:25]<PCdoc> or else ask a fat man to fart in .. same as compressed gas but natural :P
[12:25]<@BC_Programming> I'm not sure why a fat man would be required
[12:26]<@BC_Programming> pretty sure flatulence is not exclusive to the obese
[12:26]<PCdoc> =))
[12:27]<@Mulreay> If the fat man was full of gas like nobody then yes that would work

[12:34]<BC_Programmer> forgot my laptop doesn't have mIRC
[12:35]<PCdoc> yesterday i figured out another way may be not new, to fix a laptop fan circuit
[12:36]<PCdoc> take a peice of wire, solder one end to 5v pin of USB port and other to 5v connector of fan. let the ground of the fan connector be as it is. problem solved, though the fan will keep on rotating at high speed
[12:37]<PCdoc> the sensor and speed control will cut out
[12:38]<BC_Programmer> Ok this is wrong
[12:38]<BC_Programmer> wrong on so many levels

[12:39]<PCdoc> Mulreay well actually this solution has been advised and recommended by so experts if u search google

[12:44]<BC_Programmer> hmm rather hot. If only somebody had advised I wait for it to cool, this could have been averted
[12:44]<@Mulreay> Could it be a thermal paste thing?
[12:45]<BC_Programmer> well I repasted the GPU
[12:45]<BC_Programmer> I figure it's probably just dusty
[12:45]<BC_Programmer> I don't know where my thermal paste is anyways so can't really repaste if I wanted to

[12:49]<@Mulreay> I clean them with my fingers and a glass of water
[12:49]<@Mulreay> or use ear-buds.. not sure what you call them there
[12:49]<BC_Programmer> if I do that I'll have to repaste it though, the card has a cover thing that I would have to take off ti remove the fan

[13:49]<BC_Programmer> I don't know what the temps are, just booting now
[13:49]<BC_Programmer> it probably tried to boot from my external drive
[13:51]<BC_Programmer> now to start speedfan
[13:51]<@Mulreay> Luck to you friend
[13:51]<BC_Programmer> nothing exploded or caught fire and it's much quieter now
[13:52]<BC_Programmer> the GPU fan was pretty much just a spinning piece that didn't do anything since it was coated in dust
[13:52]<BC_Programmer> a dust disk reinforced by bits of plastic lol
[13:52]<@Mulreay> lol
[13:52]<BC_Programmer> "must cool gpu"
[13:52]<BC_Programmer> "It's not doing anything PC"
[13:52]<BC_Programmer> "spin faster"
[13:53]<BC_Programmer> "oh no I'm spinning faster computer but in dinnae do anything!"
[13:53]<BC_Programmer> "ok have you tried spinning faster"
[13:53]<BC_Programmer> "or clearing your cache"
[13:53]<BC_Programmer> hmm
[13:53]<@Mulreay> lol
[13:54]<BC_Programmer> 78 degrees for GPU
[13:54]<BC_Programmer> not ideal but still an improvement
[13:54]<@Mulreay> Steve ' You're not spinning fast enough to clear your cache'
[13:54]<BC_Programmer> lol
[13:56]<BC_Programmer> hey neat the temp has actually gone down to 77 for some reason
[13:56]<@Mulreay> cool
[13:56]<BC_Programmer> now I'm getting all the fun update notifications
[13:58]<BC_Programmer> may as well install Windows updates too
[13:58]<BC_Programmer> of course it could have installed them when I shutdown but hey that would be too easy
[13:58]<@Mulreay> If it's working it's a start
[13:59]<BC_Programmer> it was working before too... The test will be when I play MC methinks
[13:59]<@Mulreay> I meant if it works better
[13:59]<BC_Programmer> true
[13:59]<BC_Programmer> we shall see :)
[14:00]<BC_Programmer> updating everything before I actually do anything though... may as well take the oppurtunity
[14:00]<@Mulreay> luck on you
[14:00]<BC_Programmer> Graphics Driver update through like 10 versions
[14:00]<@Mulreay> never fun
[14:01]<BC_Programmer> well I mean I'm 10 versions behind
[14:01]<BC_Programmer> hopefully that will make things run better too
[14:01]<BC_Programmer> if the temp issue stays I guess I'll just live with it
[14:02]<BC_Programmer> I mean it doesn't seem to actually affect anything, just a worry, 104 celsius is insane
[14:02]<@Mulreay> I still cant use win 8 apps.. but that's for another day
[14:02]<BC_Programmer> I don't even use win8 apps myself tbh
[14:03]<@Mulreay> There is nothing I cant use on the desktop
[14:03]<BC_Programmer> "80 important updates" hmm I appear to be behind
[14:04]<BC_Programmer> 1GB worth lol
[14:07]<@Mulreay> heh
[14:12]<BC_Programmer> one day I will be able to upgrade or replace this poor feller
[14:16]<BC_Programmer> I just realized my laptop was running on batteries this whole time

[17:04]<+camerongray> [19:58:04] <PCdoc> this murley sounds like a big noob to me
[17:04]<+camerongray> [19:58:46] <PCdoc> knows nothing but can only criticise people with what they are and thereknowledge and talking all crap with his non-sense solutions
[17:04]<+camerongray> [19:58:56] <PCdoc> this is insulting . !!
[17:04]<+camerongray> [19:59:09] <PCdoc> he is no different from lostcoast

[17:04]<+camerongray> [20:03:12] <PCdoc> i dont think he got rights to talk shit abt ch mod .. coz he is one of them.. narrow minded
[17:05]<@BC_Programming> lol
[17:05]<@BC_Programming> yeah PCDOc is a moron
[17:06]<@BC_Programming> he was trying to give me "advice" about how to proceed with dusting my PC
[17:06]<+camerongray> Yeah, saw that :P
[17:06]<@BC_Programming> he said something was rude and then Mulreay said "no, rude would be if I kicked you"
[17:06]<@BC_Programming> and of course there was no kicking... so don't know wtf he is on about
[17:07]<@BC_Programming> oh sorry did I say Mulreay? I must mean Murley
[17:08]<@BC_Programming> haha Mulreay was actually helpful during that exchange... PCDoc not so much "use WD-40"
[17:08]<+camerongray> hehehe!
[17:09]<@BC_Programming> and recommending I buy stuff that "it's a bit expensive"
[17:09]<@BC_Programming> thx for sharing that
[17:10]<+camerongray> np

[17:20]<@Mulreay> But PCdoc is leet
[17:20]<@BC_Programming> I like that though, as if I'm going to like go and buy stuff just to dust my freaking PC
