[10:09]<+camerongray> Hey Calum
[10:09]<Calum> hey
[10:10]<+camerongray> How's everything?
[10:10]<Calum> Going pretty good thanks, can't complain. You?
[10:11]<+camerongray> Good thanks, start uni in a few weeks :D
[10:11]<Calum> Sweet :) looking forward to it?
[10:11]<+camerongray> Yeah, we've been having Google+ hangouts to get to know eachother
[10:12]<Calum> Oh right, that's cool
[10:12]<+camerongray> Yeah
[10:12]<+camerongray> Giving Windows 8 RTM a try
[10:12]<Calum> Any good?
[10:13]<+camerongray> It does seem a lot better than the previous releases
[10:13]<+camerongray> Will just take some getting used to
[10:13]<Calum> Fair enough, I haven't actually tried it myself yet
[10:13]<+camerongray> Yeah, give it a go - the RTM is available
[10:13]<Calum> Yeah, I have Technet so I could go download it, just haven't had much time
[10:14]<+camerongray> Ahh, nice!
[10:15]<+camerongray> I've got Dreamspark but Technet has more AFIK
[10:15]<Calum> Technet's useful, I debated not re-subbing this year but it's too handy
[10:15]<+camerongray> Ahh
[10:15]<Calum> A lot more, Dreamspark was good when I had that too though
[10:15]<+camerongray> Yeah
[10:15]<Calum> I had Technet Pro last year but couldn't really justify the extra this time
[10:16]<+camerongray> I think you can get Dreamspark Premium which has more but I don't think my uni seems to offer it
[10:16]<Calum> I grabbed all the Pro-exclusive stuff before I downgraded though ;)
[10:16]<+camerongray> lol
[10:16]<Calum> Ah right, didn't even know there was such a thing heh
[10:16]<+camerongray> Yeah, the uni has to pay extra
[10:17]<+camerongray> They might offer it but I can't find anything online about it
[10:17]<Calum> AH right

[10:31]<@Calum> :)
[10:31]<@jacky> Calum: :)
[10:31]<+camerongray> jacky!
[10:31]<@jacky> camerongray: Hello
[10:31]<@jacky> Calum: good to see you. how's you?
[10:31]<@Calum> jacky: you too. Pretty good here thanks, yourself?
[10:32]<@jacky> hangin in
[10:32]<@jacky> nothing special. :)
[10:32]<@Calum> heh
[10:32]<@jacky> keep busy in the computer fix-it business?
[10:32]<@jacky> keeping*
[10:32]<@Calum> fairly busy yeah
[10:32]<@jacky> good.. good
[10:33]<@Calum> doing a decent trade in a new side-line - remote control tanks and helicopters
[10:33]<@jacky> cool
[10:33]<@jacky> fixing them, or selling them?
[10:33]<@Calum> selling them
[10:33]<@jacky> should be plenty of "fix it" too, especially with the helicopters!
[10:33]<@jacky> hehehe
[10:33]<@Calum> turns out there used to be a model and RC shop up the road which closed last year, there's quite a community who are interested in them but had nowhere to buy from
[10:33]<@jacky> seriously... probably cost more to fix, than to replace... right?
[10:34]<@jacky> how did you discover this?
[10:34]<@jacky> and: I wonder why the other one closed then
[10:34]<@Calum> the ones we have at the minute would, yes, they're pretty cheap. We're probably getting some higher-end, larger ones in though, which might be worth fixing, not sure yet
[10:34]<@Calum> A few people who've come in to look at our stuff have told me about it
[10:34]<@jacky> what struck you then, to go into selling them?
[10:35]<@jacky> just a lark?
[10:35]<@Calum> Not sure why they closed though, I don't know if they closed up completely, moved elsewhere, the guy retired, or what
[10:35]<@Calum> pretty much yeah, we were offered them cheap by one of our suppliers and thought it was worth a go
[10:35]<@jacky> cool
[10:35]<@jacky> a friend of mine.. his son showed me one the other day.. Just in his hand, not flying
[10:35]<@jacky> apparently
[10:35]<@jacky> it has no remote control
[10:35]<@jacky> you do it from your Iphone
[10:35]<@Calum> we've sold a few, but they've also brought a lot of people in just to check them out and see them in action, which is also good
[10:35]<@Calum> oh, yeah, I've seen those too
[10:36]<+camerongray> Yep = seen them
[10:36]<@jacky> to see them in action, implies that you have mastered flying one!
[10:36]<@jacky> heheeheh
[10:36]<@Calum> A friend of mine is into gas-powered helicopters and planes, he uses software on his laptop to control them, they even have a built in camera to see where it's going. That's expensive, though
[10:36]<@jacky> sounds like it
[10:36]<@Calum> hah, no, never tried them, just seen people with them
[10:36]<@jacky> I wonder how the phone does it though
[10:37]<@Calum> could be Bluetooth or Wifi
[10:37]<@Calum> I don't actually know, never tried one myself
[10:37]<@jacky> bluetooth then.. I bet
[10:37]<@jacky> forgot that
[10:37]<+camerongray> Yeah, probably BT
[10:37]<@jacky> YOU need to master them, if you want to sell them!!
[10:37]<@jacky> hehehe
[10:37]<+camerongray> Or might have a bit that connects to the phone :P
[10:37]<@Calum> hah, well when we get some better ones in, I'll be having a go
[10:38]<@jacky> the $64,000 question: can you shoot down a helicopter with a tank?
[10:38]<@jacky> heh
[10:38]<@Calum> trouble is we're not ideally situated for demonstrating them, the smaller models are fine indoors but no good outside, the larger ones...we're on a busy street, so not much room, don't want to accidentally hit a passerby haha
[10:38]<@Calum> We'll see, believe me I'll be trying it
[10:38]<@Calum> :)
[10:39]<@jacky> the little ones... a friend has a couple... I've seen them fly in his house... he told me that outdoors is just hopeless... even on what you would think is a calm day..
[10:39]<@Calum> yeah, they are
[10:39]<@jacky> and not easy to control. I've tried
[10:39]<@Calum> even a slight breeze sends them all over the place, they're just too light
[10:39]<@jacky> like anything, I think with some practice, that they'd be ok
[10:40]<@Calum> it depends. The ones we have have a gyroscope, which stabilises them and makes it pretty easy. You can get it under control in about 5 minutes
[10:40]<@jacky> his had counter rotating rotors, I think
[10:40]<@jacky> not sure what a gyroscope does for one....
[10:40]<@Calum> *shrug* just what I read on the box hah
[10:41]<@Calum> I just know it's fun to fly
[10:41]<@jacky> oh! a typical salesman now, are we??!!
[10:41]<@Calum> haha, for things I don't know much about, sure
[10:41]<@jacky> hehehe
[10:41]<@Calum> I intend to find out more about them, when we start selling some better ones. These ones, people just want to buy them for their kids, they don't want the technical details
[10:42]<@jacky> what price range are the ones you have now, in?
[10:42]<@Calum> we sell them for ?25
[10:42]<@jacky> ah, yes
[10:42]<@Calum> you can get them a little cheaper, not much
[10:42]<@jacky> I think my friend's.. his were more like $150 or so
[10:42]<@jacky> can't remember, but I do remember they were not cheap
[10:42]<@Calum> yeah, once we start selling stuff in that range, I'll be doing a lot more research
[10:43]<@jacky> "research" ... is that what we call "playing with helicopters" now?
[10:43]<@jacky> :)
[10:43]<@Calum> rumbled...
[10:43]<@jacky> I remember that landing one on carpet was not good
[10:44]<@Calum> yeah, soft surfaces are difficult to take off from once you land
[10:44]<@jacky> the skid might snag a thread, and it would tip over when you tried to take off again
[10:44]<@Calum> that too
[10:44]<@jacky> and on something nice, like a table, I guess it would build up a cushion of air, when trying to land... once you got close, just dump it down
[10:44]<@jacky> else, it would slide all over
[10:44]<@Calum> this is the exact one we sell, this place does them for ?20 plus ?4 shipping so we have a decent price actually - http://www.gadgetbox.co.uk/Product/Radio-Control-Helicopters/Syma-S107G-3CH-RC-Helicopter-RTF-w-Gyro-/p-4629.html
[10:45]<@jacky> do you get them wholesale or something?
[10:45]<@Calum> on a hard surface they're pretty easy to land, never really had issues with them sliding around
[10:45]<@Calum> yeah
[10:46]<@jacky> that looks very much like the ones my friend has
[10:46]<@jacky> maybe I got the price wrong, or they came down
[10:46]<@Calum> Syma make a lot of helicopters with very similar looking frames but different internals
[10:46]<@Calum> and some with the same internals but different frames
[10:47]<@jacky> ok
[10:47]<@jacky> I think one of these would be fun to have, if you have a kitten too
[10:47]<@jacky> heh
[10:47]<@Calum> haha, my cat is terrified of it, as is my dog
[10:47]<@jacky> not used to it yet?
[10:47]<@jacky> interesting
[10:48]<@Calum> they're used to it, they just don't like it
[10:48]<@jacky> four kittens here this year
[10:48]<@jacky> you ought to see them when I come by with the lawn mower! now that is "terrified"
[10:48]<@jacky> heheh
[10:48]<@Calum> hahaha
[10:48]<@Calum> yeah I bet
[10:49]<@jacky> !seen pottsi
[10:51]<+camerongray> Your kittens jacky?
[10:52]<@jacky> well, actually they belong to their mother
[10:52]<@jacky> :)
[10:52]<+camerongray> D'AWW! :P
[10:52]<@jacky> Yes. I was down to only two cats
[10:52]<+camerongray> Need cute kitten picrues down!
[10:52]<@jacky> now - 6
[10:53]<@jacky> ?
[10:53]<+camerongray> pictures*
[10:53]<+camerongray> now*
[10:53]<+camerongray> Can't type lol
[10:53]<@Calum> heh
[10:53]<@jacky> no way to do pics
[10:53]<+camerongray> Ahh
[10:53]<@jacky> right before dark is best... typical of cats... that is when they are really "full of it"
[10:54]<@jacky> will jump at anything
[10:54]<+camerongray> lol
[10:54]<@jacky> or, if startled, explode with hissing and spitting
[10:54]<+camerongray> hahaha
[10:54]<@jacky> and I would NEVER do that, on purpose, y'see.
[10:54]<+camerongray> lol
[10:55]<@jacky> I do try to handle each of them daily, even if only for a couple minutes
[10:55]<@jacky> to get them used to it
[10:55]<@jacky> maybe somebody will want a cat....
[10:55]<+camerongray> Ahh yeah
[10:55]<+camerongray> I want a cat!
[10:55]<@jacky> I'll DCC him to you
[10:55]<+camerongray> Although there are probably nearer cat breeders :P
[10:55]<+camerongray> lol
[10:56]<+camerongray> Would probably perfer a dog though
[10:56]<@jacky> I like dogs better
[10:56]<@jacky> cats are just what I happen to have
[10:56]<+camerongray> Ahh
[10:56]<@jacky> the trick: don't expect something from the animal, that it is not
[10:56]<+camerongray> I'd love a dog, just too expensive and high maintainance
[10:57]<@jacky> a cat is a cat is a cat
[10:57]<+camerongray> ahh yeah
[10:57]<@jacky> dogs vary greatly with the breed and size
[10:57]<@jacky> as to behavior etc., etc.
[10:57]<+camerongray> Yeah
[10:57]<@jacky> a cat is very independent... usually just when you don't want it to be
[10:57]<@jacky> hehe
[10:57]<+camerongray> I'd probably want a labrador or retriever
[10:58]<@jacky> labs are retrievers. and excellent dogs. usually mild and easy to train
[10:58]<@jacky> I prefer a Chesapeake Bay Retriever
[10:58]<+camerongray> Yeah
[10:58]<@jacky> usually tough as iron, and harder to train, due to being hard headed
[10:58]<@jacky> but once you get one trained, it will die for you
[10:59]<+camerongray> Yeah, labs are a bit dumb :P
[10:59]<@jacky> labs vary there
[10:59]<+camerongray> yeah
[10:59]<@jacky> a friend had one... this was 20 years ago or so
[10:59]<@jacky> and that thing had ESP
[10:59]<@jacky> it would do things for him, that he had not trained it to do. I swear
[10:59]<@jacky> that dog was amazing
[10:59]<+camerongray> wow!
[10:59]<@jacky> Lab, that is
[11:00]<+camerongray> One of the guys at work as a border collie, he's lovely!
[11:00]<@jacky> it was like it could read his mind
[11:00]<+camerongray> Sometimes comes into the office
[11:00]<@jacky> I think they are supposed to be very smart too
[11:00]<+camerongray> Really loyal to his owner, had to get him out of a meeting once when the dog started crying!
[11:00]<@jacky> are they high strung? will it just lay around, if he needs it to do so?
[11:01]<@Calum> border collies can be very smart, and usually very loyal, or so my ex told me
[11:01]<+camerongray> Yeah
[11:01]<+camerongray> He tends to sleep but can be very energetic
[11:01]<@Calum> usually need a lot of work and exercise though due to being bred as working dogs
[11:01]<@jacky> Calum: so are you saying that instead of an "ex", you should have gotten a dog??
[11:01]<@jacky> :)
[11:01]<+camerongray> The best time was when he was sleeping under the desk that is directly touching the Managing Director's desk
[11:01]<@Calum> I would've preferred it haha
[11:02]<@jacky> heh
[11:02]<+camerongray> MD came running in to answer the phone and didn't notice dog
[11:02]<@Calum> ex is bad times, dog's always good times
[11:02]<+camerongray> Suddenly gets exceited dog leaping on him from under the desk
[11:02]<@Calum> haha, that sounds pretty funny
[11:02]<@jacky> Calum: Engrave that on a plaque. True-ism
[11:02]<+camerongray> Yeah, Trying to explain why he had just screamed down the phone :P
[11:02]<@Calum> haha
[11:02]<@Calum> I think I might
[11:03]<@jacky> camerongray: this black lab... one day there were a half dozen of us standing around... just talking
[11:03]<@jacky> my friends dog was by his feet, half asleep
[11:03]<+camerongray> Got a very funny email too "I'm working from home today, Lucky puked in the car"
[11:03]<@jacky> one fellow... just out of the blue says something like, "Hey... that's about the dumbest dog in the world"
[11:03]<@jacky> just joking around
[11:04]<@jacky> a minute later, the dog gets up, walks around to him, hikes up his leg and starts to piss on his leg
[11:04]<@jacky> he didn' tsee the dog
[11:04]<@Calum> hahahaha
[11:04]<@jacky> we did
[11:04]<+camerongray> hahaha!
[11:04]<@jacky> and cracked up
[11:04]<@jacky> he still to this day, claims that my friend made the dog do it
[11:04]<+camerongray> lol
[11:04]<@jacky> my friend to this day claims he had the world's smartest dog
[11:04]<@jacky> it was hilarious
[11:05]<@Calum> nice
[11:05]<@jacky> the dog had one horrible habit
[11:05]<@jacky> I don't think he ever broke the dog of it
[11:05]<@jacky> he'd let it out.. .let it run for a few minutes, etc.
[11:05]<@jacky> put down the tailgate, tell the dog to load up, and it would hop in the truck
[11:05]<@jacky> we'd start down the road, and the dog would s h i t
[11:05]<@jacky> every time
[11:06]<@Calum> hah
[11:06]<@jacky> my friend would explode
[11:06]<+camerongray> lol
[11:06]<@Calum> really bad habit
[11:06]<@jacky> the dog looked so happy too
[11:06]<@jacky> that made it worse
[11:06]<@jacky> hehehee
[11:06]<@Calum> hah yeah
[11:06]<+camerongray> lol
[11:06]<@jacky> but it was one heck of a retriever
[11:06]<+camerongray> Calum, does Keiser have any bad or funny habits?
[11:07]<@jacky> talk about learning things... it learned the sound of the safe being clicked off, on a shotgun
[11:07]<@jacky> it would become alert, instantly, at that sound
[11:07]<@Calum> hmm, not really...everyone time he does s**t though, he runs back to you with the biggest grin on his face, immensely proud of himself
[11:08]<@jacky> dog, right?
[11:08]<+camerongray> lol
[11:08]<@Calum> yeah
[11:08]<@jacky> will he let you know, that it is time to let him outdoors?
[11:08]<@Calum> he only does that when we take him for a walk, I think I can count the number of times he's done it in the garden on one hand
[11:09]<@Calum> but yeah, if he needs to go outside, he'll tell us
[11:09]<@jacky> it's good for the garden. fertilizer!
[11:09]<@jacky> heh
[11:09]<@Calum> I know, he just has this thing about not doing it, he won't even pee
[11:09]<@Calum> in the garden I mean
[11:09]<@jacky> really?
[11:09]<+camerongray> I take it he is very smart, being part german shepherd?
[11:09]<@jacky> interesting
[11:09]<@Calum> pretty smart yeah, he's about 90% shepherd
[11:10]<@jacky> ugg... German shepherds.. I've not ever had good luck with being around one. But they ARE smart
[11:10]<@jacky> they will bite
[11:11]<@Calum> it does depend on the dog, owner and training, Kaiser's never bitten even when provoked by my stupid cousins
[11:11]<@Calum> I mean, obviously any dog can bite, and I know shepherds can be prone to it
[11:11]<@Calum> but he's really nice natured
[11:11]<@jacky> oh yes. individuals vary greatly, and conditioning is prime
[11:12]<@jacky> you know one that fools a lot of people? Dalmatians. they are touchy. will snap in a heartbeat
[11:12]<@Calum> oh, yeah, definitely

[11:13]<@Calum> my mum is scared of them to this day, she lived down the road from a really mad one when she was a kid
[11:13]<@jacky> another one is the Chow-Chow
[11:13]<@jacky> beware
[11:13]<@Calum> it trapped her in the phone box once, she ran in there to escape from it and it stood guard for ages outside, growling and barking trying to get at her
[11:13]<@Calum> Chow-Chow? Don't think I know that breed
[11:13]<@jacky> when I'd have gotten out of that phone booth, I'd have found a 2x4 and beat the s h i t out of that dog, and it would have learned
[11:14]<@Calum> haha, well yeah...she was only about 8 though
[11:14]<@jacky> a Chow is a chinese dog, I think. not huge. very furry. almost like a lions mane
[11:14]<@jacky> then your father shouldhave clobbered that dog
[11:14]<@jacky> heheehe
[11:14]<@jacky> a Chow's tongue is not pink/red. It is blue/black
[11:14]<@Calum> hah, he wasn't around at that point, but yeah I know what you mean, someone sure should've done

[11:15]<@Calum> hm, are they related to Samoyeds? Can't remember the dog family...spitz or something?
[11:15]<@jacky>
[11:16]<@jacky> that's beyond me. I just know from experience, and from people in the know, that a Chow is wicked.
[11:16]<@Calum> fair enough, I don't think I've ever seen one

[11:36]<@BC_Programming> hi cam
[11:36]<@BC_Programming> what's up with you guys
[11:37]<@Calum> not too much, just keeping cool heh
[11:37]<@Calum> you?
[11:38]<@BC_Programming> eh... I've been trying to record a Minecraft video of me trying a map
[11:38]<@BC_Programming> but I keep dying and ragequitting
[11:38]<@Calum> heh
[11:40]<@BC_Programming> the first time was ridiculous. Monsters everywhere, me lighting up the spawners so they stop making more as fast as possible while being chased by like 20 of each hostile mob
[11:41]<@BC_Programming> then when I make my escape to safety I get back to the intersection room and fall in a one-block hole straight into lava
[11:41]<@BC_Programming> 60+ enemies are no problem, but apparently one-block wide holes that would normally take some effort to fall into are ny undoing, lol
[11:43]<@Calum> haha I see
[11:43]<@Calum> sounds familiar, not that I've played Minecraft but in other things
