[07:46]<+camerongray> Hey Calum
[07:46]<Calum> Hey
[07:46]<@jacky> camerongray: Hello
[07:46]<@jacky> Calum: Hello
[07:46]<+camerongray> Wow it's odd seeing your name again :P
[07:46]<Calum> Hehe
[07:46]<@jacky> he just called you "odd"
[07:46]<Calum> I've been called much worse
[07:47]<@jacky> oh
[07:47]<@jacky> ok
[07:47]<@jacky> ogod point
[07:47]<Calum> By many people
[07:47]<@jacky> good*
[07:47]<@jacky> heheeh
[07:47]<+camerongray> lol
[07:47]<@jacky> fixed a dozen computers yet today?
[07:47]<@jacky> :)
[07:47]<Calum> My nick is now registered and I'm on a proper client now, too
[07:47]<@jacky> I saw the reg
[07:47]<@jacky> hadn't hcecked the client... yet
[07:48]<@jacky> wow..
[07:48]<@jacky> what's that?
[07:48]<Calum> It's called "ClicksAndWhistles"
[07:48]<@jacky> so I see
[07:48]<@Mulreay> shweet
[07:48]<Calum> Heh yeah
[07:48]<Calum> It's quite nice actually
[07:48]<@jacky> something new?
[07:48]<Calum> I thought I'd try something different from the usual
[07:49]<Calum> It's lightweight, nice simple interface, has macros/scripts
[07:49]<Calum> and a funny name heh
[07:49]<Calum> It's only using 6MB of RAM actually which is very impressive
[07:49]<@jacky> yeah.. really
[07:49]<@jacky> hehe
[07:50]<@jacky> where did you hear of it?
[07:50]<Calum> I was just Googling for IRC clients to see what was out there
[07:50]<Calum> The only ones I could remember off the top of my head were kvirc, mirc, and hydraic
[07:50]<Calum> *hydrairc even
[07:50]<@jacky> !say *irc*
[07:51]<@jacky> there's a few
[07:51]<Calum> yeah, I had a look at xchat too, was going to give that a try
[07:51]<Calum> but then I saw this and I really like it
[07:51]<@jacky> there's something about xchat... can't remember exactly....
[07:51]<@jacky> is it not free?
[07:51]<@jacky> but there is a limited ver, that is
[07:51]<Calum> I didn't see anything like that but admittedly I only took a quick glance
[07:51]<+camerongray> The windows version is a trial but it's also open source - see the flaw?
[07:51]<Calum> heh
[07:51]<+camerongray> Hence there are free versions of it :P
[07:52]<Calum> That's interesting
[07:52]<@jacky> camerongray: isn't that a contradiction in terms?
[07:52]<+camerongray> Yeah
[07:52]<+camerongray> I use "YChat"
[07:52]<Calum> I think it was actually a clone of sorts that I looked at, it was called XChat2
[07:52]<+camerongray> And Colloquy on Mac - It's really nice
[07:52]<Calum> It looked alright, just couldn't resist having a client called ClicksAndWhistles
[07:52]<+camerongray> lol
[07:53] * @jacky thinks that Calum is going to be talking to the porpoises and whales now
[07:53]<Calum> haha
[07:53]<+camerongray> hahaha
[07:54]<Calum> well, I called somewhere the other day and they said my call would be recorded for training porpoises, so...
[07:54]<Calum> *groan* bad joke I know
[07:54]<+camerongray> lol
[07:54]<+camerongray> Have you ever had those "Windows technical support" scam calls
[07:54]<Calum> Many many times
[07:54]<+camerongray> Yeah
[07:54]<Calum> they call at roughly the same time every day
[07:55]<Calum> I even used to get calls from them when I was at Overclockers
[07:55]<+camerongray> I spent 15mins with them "looking for the start menu"
[07:55]<@jacky> did you whistle when you answered??
[07:55]<@jacky> har
[07:55]<Calum> heh, yeah, they don't like it when you say you're not even on Windows
[07:55]<@jacky> !say *irc*
[07:55]<@jacky> !say clicksandwhistles
[07:55]<Calum> haha
[07:55]<Calum> nice
[07:55]<@jacky> is that correct?
[07:56]<Calum> yep that's the one
[07:56]<@jacky> cool
[07:56]<@jacky> done.
[07:56]<Calum> mine doesn't look all that much like their screenshots, but never mind heh
[07:56]<+camerongray> When they established that I wasn't even using windows they threatened to "Turn off the main server to the computer"
[07:56]<Calum> it's a lot less cluttered
[07:56]<@jacky> !addsay Calum email calum@somewhere.com for free tech support, 24/7
[07:56]<@jacky> <eg>
[07:56]<Calum> haha
[07:56]<@Mulreay> lol
[07:57]<@jacky> oh Calum... umm... what's your cell phone number?
[07:57]<@jacky> <eeg>
[07:57]<Calum> it's 0800-fixityourself
[07:58]<+camerongray> BAHAHA!
[07:59]<@jacky> camerongray: I dialed it. He answered!
[07:59]<@jacky> http://tinyurl.com/7pzgab5
[07:59]<@jacky>
[08:00]<Calum> hahaha
[08:00]<@jacky> "clicks and whistles" eh?
[08:00]<@jacky> hehehe
[08:00]<+camerongray> lol
[08:00]<Calum> I remember when a fax machine kept calling our tech support number
[08:00]<@jacky> oh.. lovely... heheeh
[08:01]<Calum> every time I picked up the phone and said something, it disconnected and rang back 5 seconds later...I answered and said nothng and it just kept on beeping, that's when we realised it was a fax
[08:01]<Calum> got my call stats up though, 10 calls answered at 5 seconds apiece
[08:02]<@jacky> I used to use the hotel switchboard, to call Dial-A-Prayer, then connect it to somebody else. Somebody figured out is was me, and thought I should stop... her friend thought Jesus was calling her.
[08:02]<Calum> haha nice
[08:02]<@jacky> here's another one...
[08:03]<@jacky> dial 1-800-any combination of porn or obscenity here
[08:03]<@jacky> it will answer
[08:03]<@jacky> for sure
[08:03]<@jacky> put it on hold
[08:03]<@jacky> tell co-worker.. ."line 2... it's for you"
[08:03]<@jacky> heheheeh
[08:03]<Calum> haha
[08:03]<@jacky> you ought to see their eyes fly open
[08:03]<@jacky> hehehee
[08:03]<Calum> see, our tech support number ended is 5054...if you dialed 5454, that was a phone sex line
[08:04]<Calum> no end of people called us sand said "I just called and all I got was heavy breathing and someone asked me what I was wearing"
[08:04]<Calum> they generally didn't believe us but it was absolutely true
[08:05]<+camerongray> hahaha
[08:07]<@jacky> when you said, "An anti-static wrist strap" .... did they like it?
[08:07]<@jacky> heh
[08:07]<Calum> haha
[08:07]<@jacky> phone... brb, I hope
[08:07]<Calum> that might have explained how many people would call and hang up straight away...evidently they were hoping for something more exciting than technical support
[08:08]<+camerongray> lol
[08:09]<+camerongray> This graphics card is getting annoying - Can't play minecraft and do anything at the same time
[08:09]<Calum> what card is it?
[08:09]<+camerongray> I have a 560ti but have to use a whopping GT210 for the hackintosh :P
[08:09]<Calum> ah right
[08:09]<+camerongray> Similar to having 8gb RAM but only being able to use 4 under mac
[08:10]<+camerongray> Sometimes I wonder why I bother
[08:10]<Calum> actually, it's not a GT210, it's a Geforce 210. /pedantic mode - we had a big debate about this once because one guy was INSISTENT that it was a GT210
[08:10]<+camerongray> Ahh
[08:10]<Calum> hm, why do you bother? lol
[08:10]<+camerongray> I got bored :P
[08:10]<Calum> fair enough
[08:11]<+camerongray> Once a kernel for Lion is released I can use my 560ti
[08:11]<Calum> don't suppose you want to buy some hard drives by any chance? Trying to get rid of a few here heh
[08:11]<Calum> Ah right
[08:11]<+camerongray> I'm fine just now - 3 at the moment + SSD
[08:11]<Calum> worth a try
[08:11]<+camerongray> lol
[08:11]<Calum> I've got the same in my PC, but I have another 3 lying around
[08:12]<+camerongray> Ahh
[08:12]<Calum> plus two waterblocks, some CPU/mobo bundles, and other assorted stuff
[08:12]<Calum> it's msotly on the bay at the minute, if no one buys it it's going to the tip
[08:12]<+camerongray> I have the SSD for Windows, 2x1tb in RAID1 for storage and one 1tb for Mac
[08:13]<Calum> What SSD do you have?
[08:13]<+camerongray> Corsair Force 3
[08:13]<Calum> fair enough
[08:13]<+camerongray> And a cheapo vertex in my laptop
[08:13]<+camerongray> Both 60gb
[08:13]<Calum> I've got an Intel X25-M, got it cheap and sold the TB drive it replaced for more than the SSD
[08:13]<+camerongray> Nice!
[08:14]<Calum> No idea why I bought it to be fair because it makes no difference to me, everything I want to load fast is on my RAMdrive
[08:14]<+camerongray> True
[08:14]<Calum> but at least it made me some money
[08:14]<+camerongray> I love SSDs - Can't see myself going back to only HDD
[08:14]<Calum> got two 1TB drives in RAID0 to load my RAMdrive image off and to store my other games on and a 2Tb for egneral storage
[08:14]<Calum> yeah, I couldn't do without an SSD on a normal PC, no way
[08:15]<Calum> makes such a massive difference
[08:15]<+camerongray> When I get my new laptop I'm sticking my vertex in as a boot drive and keeping a storage HDD in an optibay
[08:15]<Calum> but my PC takes ages to start up anyway because it has to load a 12GB image file off the HDDs so...
[08:15]<+camerongray> ahh
[08:16]<+camerongray> The only game I play/own is Minecraft :P
[08:16]<Calum> heh
[08:16]<+camerongray> Tux2 runs a server so I along with a couple of others from here play on that
[08:16]<Calum> I've been playing BC2 again recently, trolling all the morons on there
[08:16]<Calum> ah cool
[08:17]<Calum> played a game earlier and literally the only thing in the chatbox was people complaining about me...I didn't do anything wrong, I just played as normal
[08:17]<+camerongray> lol
[08:17]<Calum> no hacks, no cheats, no "noob" weapons, no camping
[08:17]<Calum> just wading into rooms full of camping snipers and knifing them all because they're standing still
[08:17]<+camerongray> Minecraft is soooo distracting - I'm meant to be scanning a tonne of photos and uploading them to a website but instead I'm building a house
[08:18]<Calum> haha
[08:19]<Calum> I need to sort out my car later...it's too cold for me really though, rather stay inside
[08:19]<+camerongray> lol
[08:19]<Calum> wiring issues, such a pain
[08:26]<+camerongray> ahh
[08:26]<Calum> oh, don't suppose I could interest you in a 486 laptop? :)
[08:27]<+camerongray> lol
[08:27]<+camerongray> Probably worth something on ebay though - Old DOS gamers .etc
[08:27]<Calum> it's a Toshiba with the RAM on a little expansion card, like a PC card
[08:27]<+camerongray> lol
[08:27]<Calum> it needs a capacitor replacing though, otherwise I'd put it on there yeah
[08:28]<+camerongray> Ahh
[08:28]<Calum> as it is, not really worth anything unfortunately
[08:28]<+camerongray> Yeah
[08:28]<+camerongray> I have a 468 desktop
[08:28]<+camerongray> Ambra Sprinta
[08:28]<Calum> heh nice
[08:28]<+camerongray> And a BBC Micro :P
[08:28]<Calum> awesome, I had an Atari 520 but I sold it
[08:28]<+camerongray> ahh
[08:28]<Calum> never found a monitor for it so no idea if it worked
[08:29]<+camerongray> Ahh
[08:29]<Calum> I remember reading through the manuals though and thinking how cool the GUI looked lol
[08:29]<+camerongray> hahaha
[08:29]<Calum> It used TOS - The Operating System
[08:29]<+camerongray> I never had a monitor cable for the BBC but actually found a store selling parts for them - This was in 2008
[08:29]<Calum> oh cool
[08:31]<@Mulreay> Want to put Linux on my other laptop 512RAM.. need to pick the best distro.. any suggestions guy's?
[08:31]<+camerongray> I use crunchbang on my netbook - very lightweight
[08:31]<Calum> I'm no Linux guru but I've been trying out Linux Mint, seems pretty good but not sure what performance is like with lower RAM
[08:31]<+camerongray> I also have a couple of RISC OS ones - 310 and A5000 - pretty cool to think that the ARM CPUs that are now used everywhere were designed for them
[08:31]<@Mulreay> I have ubuntu on dual boot for this laptop but rarely use it
[08:32]<Calum> Does that laptop use DDR2 RAM though? because I have a 512mb stick sitting here which no one wants to buy, you can have it if you want, might help performance a bit
[08:32]<@Mulreay> cool, will try yours camerongray
[08:32]<@Mulreay> erm DDR I think
[08:32]<Calum> ah right, fair enough, throught it was worth a try if it might've helped :)
[08:33]<Calum> sold all my DDR though
[08:33]<+camerongray> lol
[08:33]<+camerongray> I have a almost working Macbook if anyone wants it :P
[08:33]<+camerongray> On ebay at the moment
[08:33]<Calum> almost working?
[08:33]<+camerongray> Can't find a battery or read DVDs
[08:33]<@Mulreay> Just looked it's DDR
[08:33]<+camerongray> It scratches them and spits them out
[08:33]<+camerongray> And the battery fault is the motherboard
[08:34]<Calum> heh I see
[08:34]<+camerongray> Still works great off the mains though
[08:34]<Calum> link?
[08:35]<+camerongray> I also have a couple of RISC OS ones - 310 and A5000 - pretty
[08:35]<+camerongray> dang!
[08:35]<+camerongray> http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/320843451988?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649#ht_500wt_1041
[08:35]<Calum> going for ?200, nice work lol
[08:36]<+camerongray> Used it for a year and worked great - Ordered a Pro for university so selling this
[08:36]<Calum> fair enough
[08:36]<+camerongray> And got ?150 education discount
[08:36]<Calum> cool
[08:36]<Calum> been thinking of selling my laptop but I don't think it's worth anything really
[08:37]<+camerongray> Ahh
[08:37]<+camerongray> What is it?
[08:37]<Calum> Tuion single core 2GHz, dedicated X1600 graphics, 2GB RAM, super fast IDE HDD lol
[08:37]<Calum> at the time it was amazing
[08:37]<+camerongray> yeah
[08:37]<Calum> "at the tim" being 2005
[08:37]<Calum> *time
[08:38]<+camerongray> Probably not much TBH
[08:38]<Calum> yeah, I'd be lucky to get ?100 really
[08:38]<Calum> bought a HP business laptop, 2Ghz dual core, nice screen and everything, for ?40 not long ago
[08:38]<+camerongray> That's one of the reasons I bought a Macbook - they really hold value - One like mine in good working order could go for around ?350
[08:38]<Calum> the guy totally didn't know how much it was worth
[08:38]<Calum> yeah, Apple stuff does hold its value very well
[08:38]<+camerongray> hahaha
[08:39]<Calum> I was tempted to sell it but I gave it to my girlfriend instead because I'm nice like that
[08:39]<Calum> part of me does wish now that I'd given her my old one and sold the HP for about ?200 though
[08:39]<+camerongray> lol - Now you are to blame if anything goes wrong :P
[08:39]<@Mulreay> cool, crunchbang uses torrents... wish more heavy weight downoads did this..
[08:40]<+camerongray> I have that with my family - "You upgraded my RAM and now i have a virus, it's your fault"
[08:40]<Calum> hah, well that's the downside I guess, but it seems to be going OK still
[08:40]<Calum> yeah, torrents for Linux distros are awesome, so much easier
[08:40]<+camerongray> Oh and my friend I build a PC for, best tech support ever...
[08:41]<+camerongray> Build the PC end of 2010 - i3, 4gb RAM, Antec 300, 1tb HDD, nothing special - I think Calum helped me pick parts actually
[08:41]<Calum> yeah rings a bell
[08:41]<+camerongray> Last month he called me saying that the pins in his front USB were bent and his headphones would no longer fit...
[08:41]<@Mulreay> I'm still staring at my empty desktop case that I got off Calum
[08:42]<Calum> Mulreay: still not used that Fractal?
[08:42]<Calum> camerongray: oh, I know that type...used to get those people allll the time
[08:42]<+camerongray> I then pointed out he could use the other USB port but he said that the plug wouldn't fit because it looked like a special kind of USB
[08:42]<Calum> haha what?
[08:42]<+camerongray> After a lot of puzzling he sent me this picture:
[08:42]<@Mulreay> Heh, nope... the money got re-distributed into other things... got a big job on in May and that will pay for the parts
[08:42]<+camerongray> 2 secs
[08:43]<Calum> Mulreay: ah right, fair enough
[08:43]<@Mulreay> SATA by any chance?
[08:43]<Calum> I have the bigger brother of that case now
[08:43]<+camerongray> Oh, the image is gone
[08:43]<@Mulreay> cool
[08:43]<Calum> thinking of changing case soon-ish though
[08:43]<+camerongray> But the image showed a USB plug with 4 holes in the end rather than a slot type thing...
[08:44]<+camerongray> Turns out he had tripped over the cable and snapped the bar from inside the port and it was lodged inside the plug
[08:44]<@Mulreay> lol
[08:44]<Calum> good going
[08:44]<+camerongray> The metal contacts were still in the port and he had used it like that for months
[08:44]<Calum> heh
[08:45]<Calum> I'm always surprised how strong USB ports and connectors are, I stand on my phone's charger every single ******* morning and it still works
[08:45]<+camerongray> lol
[08:45]<Calum> I swear it moves when I wake up to make sure my foot goes directly on it every time
[08:45]<@Mulreay> haha
[08:45]<+camerongray> lol - I hate that bump when you wheel your chair over a cable
[08:45]<Calum> like standing on a Lego brick, it's so painful lol
[08:46]<Calum> oh yeah, that's annoying as well, but now my cables are almost all out of the way
[08:46]<@Mulreay> I don't really have that problem.. all my computers surround my bed.. it's like that thing that Darth Vader sits in
[08:46]<Calum> haha
[08:46]<+camerongray> lol
[08:46]<+camerongray> Did you ever get any really messed up PCs at OCUK?
[08:47]<Calum> messed up how?
[08:47]<+camerongray> Badly mangled
[08:47]<+camerongray> Like people had punched them
[08:47]<@Mulreay> Like with soup in... 'Yeah I had a bit of a spill' and half the contents of a cream of vegetable are swimming round the bottom
[08:47]<Calum> well, DPD (Destroy Parcels Daily) did a good job of decimating our PCs
[08:47]<+camerongray> Ahh
[08:48]<Calum> and people, when sending them back, would do the most idiotic things
[08:48]<Calum> like wrap them in a bin bag
[08:48]<+camerongray> hahaha
[08:48]<@Mulreay> heh
[08:48]<+camerongray> Ugggg - Dirty PCs *shudders*
[08:48]<Calum> the guy who did that wasn't very happy when I told him his warranty was void
[08:48]<Calum> dirty PCs? You haven't seen anything, trust me
[08:48]<+camerongray> lol
[08:48]<+camerongray> Dell Dimension P4s are the word I've seen
[08:49]<Calum> we picked out the dust from one guy's 6 month old PC and bagged it up to send back to him to show him how bad it was
[08:49]<+camerongray> lol
[08:49]<Calum> it looked like a nest in there
[08:49]<Calum> god knows where he lived
[08:49]<+camerongray> lol
[08:49]<Calum> or what the rest of his house was like....
[08:49]<+camerongray> Hard floors don't help as dust doesn't get trampled in
[08:49]<Calum> oh, that was a ?3000 PC as well
[08:49]<+camerongray> lol
[08:49]<Calum> I find hard floors tend to be better mostly
[08:50]<+camerongray> hmm
[08:50]<Calum> people with their PCs on the carpet, it just acts as a hoover and sucks all the dust in
[08:50]<+camerongray> My room must just be very dusty :P
[08:50]<Calum> heh, mine too...wouldn't believe how clogged my filters get
[08:50]<Calum> I even have mine on a little trolley thing to keep it elevated
[08:50]<Calum> doesn't help
[08:50]<+camerongray> Oh and chain smoker's PCs *eww*
[08:51]<+camerongray> It almost makes the dust sticky
[08:51]<Calum> but I have got 5 140mm intake fans
[08:51]<+camerongray> lol
[08:51]<Calum> ohh, yeah, smokers' PCs are awful
[08:51]<Calum> sticky yellow stuff
[08:51]<+camerongray> I had one and worked on it in the garage
[08:51]<@Mulreay> that would be tar
[08:51]<Calum> cat owners are bad too, cat hair gets everywhere
[08:51]<+camerongray> lol
[08:51]<@Mulreay> Yeah, we have a staffy.. short haired dogs do the same
[08:52]<Calum> Mulrway: yep, tar lining the case basically, but it also gets the dust all horrible and yellow too, so everywhere there's dust it's impossible to remove
[08:52]<+camerongray> And the smell
[08:52]<Calum> yeah, the smell
[08:52]<Calum> horrific
[08:53]<+camerongray> http://images.topix.com/gallery/up-VHKI3QS6FFI3LKNC.jpg
[08:53]<Calum> that's pretty bad
[08:53]<+camerongray> yeah
[08:53]<@Mulreay> wow, looks like a cave
[08:54]<+camerongray> And I still remember a laptop I fixed that must have been kept in a kitchen - the whole thing was slimy and oily
[08:54]<+camerongray> I actually connected an external keyboard and mouse to use it
[08:54]<Calum> nasty
[08:55]<@Mulreay> I clean out my laptop every 2 weeks... but it does sit on my bed with cooler tray.. picks up loads of dog hair and fluff still
[08:55]<+camerongray> lol
[08:55]<Calum> for some reason my laptop didn't pick up all that much dust
[08:55]<@Mulreay> Is it on a desk?
[08:55]<+camerongray> Mine is okay but I only ever use it i school
[08:56]<Calum> it was yeah, but when I had my PC on there in the same place that picked up much more dust
[08:56]<@Mulreay> Different vent sizes and wht not I suppose
[08:56]<+camerongray> I suppose it depends on the speed of the fans too
[08:56]<Calum> yeah, I guess in fairness the laptop took in much less air and through smaller vents
[08:56]<Calum> but I literally needed to clean it like twice in 2 years
[08:57]<+camerongray> Mine has a tendency to get very loud and the fans run really high
[08:57]<+camerongray> I think it's partly down to turbo boost
[08:57]<Calum> yeah
[08:57]<Calum> have you redone your thermal paste?
[08:57]<+camerongray> Yeah
[08:57]<@Mulreay> I just clean mine every 2 weeks regardless especially when I was stupid enough to buy bulk compressed air canisters off eBay...
[08:57]<Calum> That dropped the temps on mine about 10C under load
[08:57]<+camerongray> It's only a couple of years old
[08:58]<+camerongray> Got it summer 2010
[08:58]<Calum> heh, compressed air is fun
[08:58]<+camerongray> ThinkPad L512 i5
[08:58]<Calum> is it a dual or quad?
[08:58]<@Mulreay> I have loads of the f'ing things... there everywhere I look in my bedroom
[08:58]<+camerongray> Dual with HT
[08:58]<Calum> fair enough
[08:59]<+camerongray> Pretty decent system - Just need something a bit smaller
[08:59]<Calum> ah right
[08:59]<+camerongray> And a better battery
[08:59]<Calum> heh
[08:59]<+camerongray> Since I'll be using it all day at uni and carrying it around
[09:00]<@Mulreay> My battery keeps the laptop on for about 30secs then it's drained... just enough time to switch plug sockets in the house.. if I run
[09:00]<+camerongray> lol
[09:01]<Calum> haha
[09:01]<+camerongray> At school I need battery - All the sockets in the common room are dead for no reason
[09:01]<+camerongray> Someone probably jammed a fork in one or something
[09:01]<Calum> hah
[09:01]<Calum> wouldn't surprise me
[09:02]<@Mulreay> heh
[09:02]<+camerongray> Yeah
[09:02]<@Mulreay> we used to have a microwave in our IT room at high school... don't ask cos I don't know
[09:02]<+camerongray> We had to push the budget and invest in an extension cord for the TV and people keep unplugging it
[09:02]<+camerongray> lol - We have one in our common room - only been on fire once
[09:03]<+camerongray> Microwave muffin for 10 secs not 10 mins!
[09:03]<Calum> hah
[09:03]<+camerongray> They had to run outside with it so the fire alarm didn't go odd
[09:03]<+camerongray> off*
[09:03]<@Mulreay> I wish they did computer science when I was at school... just did lame lessons on excel and word.. it was back in 91-96 though
[09:04]<+camerongray> Ahh - they do that at ours as well
[09:04]<Calum> yeah, I heard they're going to start offering computer science as a GCSE now
[09:04]<+camerongray> It's only later years that do programming and stuff
[09:04]<@Mulreay> yeah, I heard that
[09:04]<Calum> looks good, apparently there's a massive lack of teachers for it though
[09:04]<@Mulreay> I see a job opening for us
[09:05]<Calum> heh
[09:05]<+camerongray> True - one of the computing teachers at our school is a biology teacher who likes computers
[09:05]<@Mulreay> Lesson one 'Creating Malware' is where my lessons would start... Lesson two 'Trolling'
[09:05]<Calum> hehe
[09:05]<@Mulreay> Just to be ackward
[09:05]<+camerongray> Schools also lack the IT facilities - ours is still on Athlon 64 HPs that can barely open word
[09:06]<Calum> my college had crap PCs but my old school have nice new ones apparently
[09:06]<+camerongray> Cool
[09:06]<@Mulreay> Wow, that's positively futuristic from we had.. I was learning word on a gloryfied toaster
[09:06]<Calum> main problem with school PCs is the lack of maintenance
[09:06]<+camerongray> I think my school is replacing them this summer - too late for me though
[09:06]<@Mulreay> true
[09:06]<+camerongray> Calum: So true - ours are literally falling apartr
[09:07]<@Mulreay> Same with libraries
[09:07]<+camerongray> They outsource to BT who can't be bothered doing anything
[09:07]<Calum> ours had crisp packets in the DVD drives...
[09:07]<@Mulreay> lol
[09:07]<Calum> never even tried to use a library PC to be honest
[09:07]<+camerongray> Ours have no trays in the dvd drives
[09:07]<Calum> our library's PCs are always in use by shifty looking people
[09:08]<@Mulreay> camerongray you should offer to do them for a bump in all your grades... so i fix this computer and that's an A* for English yes?
[09:08]<Calum> haha
[09:08]<+camerongray> I actually found a jotter inside one - They had forced it through the 3.5" slot with a missing cover
[09:08]<Calum> heh
[09:08]<+camerongray> lol - I have to fix them anyway
[09:09]<+camerongray> two of ours that I have seen have power buttons made by the tech department because BT couldn't be bothered fixing them
[09:09]<@Mulreay> My best subject at school was DCT but wish they did computer stuff back then
[09:09]<+camerongray> Ahh
[09:09]<@Mulreay> or CDT even
[09:09]<@Mulreay> been a long time
[09:10]<+camerongray> I'd say at least 1 in 10 PCs at school have cracked LCDs but people still have to use them by moving windows away from cracks
[09:10]<+camerongray> It's ridiculous
[09:10]<Calum> slightly off topic here but camerongray - do you use an IRC client on your phone at all?
[09:10]<+camerongray> AndroIRC
[09:10]<+camerongray> And don't get me started on the cleaner who spilled toilet cleaner through the switches
[09:10]<@Mulreay> It's bizarre as computers are the future.. you think there would be more coverage at school
[09:10]<Calum> that's the one I was just looking at, I'll download it now then
[09:10]<+camerongray> Yeah
[09:11]<+camerongray> They are improving - Teaching VB to younger years
[09:11]<+camerongray> VB 5 I'll add
[09:11]<Calum> I remember learning VB
[09:11]<@Mulreay> it's a start
[09:11]<+camerongray> But it basically consists of copying out of books as the teachers don't understand
[09:11]<@Mulreay> I downloaded it but never got round to learning it
[09:12]<+camerongray> I tend to do C#, PHP and Java now
[09:12]<Calum> alright guys I'm off for now, might be back later on
[09:12]<+camerongray> cya

[11:07]<@Calum> I've never bought anything from Novatech, how's their return process? Decent?
[11:08]<@Mulreay> I bought it off eBay so not direct from them. The guy was cool though sent me an email with a returns form.. 12 months warranty
[11:08]<@Calum> ah right, fair enough
