[10:30]<@BC_Programming> parts ordered :D
[10:32]<+camerongray> :D
[10:33]<@BC_Programming> had to reduce the 4GB Graphics card to a 2GB version of the same card, I think a rebate must no longer apply since it was too expensive
[10:33]<@BC_Programming> delivery date of the 25th
[10:34]<PCdoc> 10 days o.O
[10:34]<@BC_Programming> I could have gotten the express and it would have a estimated delivery date of next thursday
[10:35]<@BC_Programming> was tempted since the extra cost made it almost exactly the amount I had available
[10:38]<@jacky> Windows 9 and 128bit linux come out on the 24th
[10:39]<@jacky> why did you buy all that out-of-date old stuff?
[10:41]<@BC_Programming> hah
[10:42]<@jacky> :)
[10:42]<@jacky> seriously... is that normal? 11 days to deliver?
[10:42]<@BC_Programming> I think so
[10:43]<@jacky> ouch
[10:43]<@jacky> they must slow down to avoid the polar bears or something
[10:44]<PCdoc> windows 9 ?
[10:44]<PCdoc> o.O
[10:45]<@jacky> 9.1 then
[10:45]<PCdoc> means after xp, its 7
[10:45]<PCdoc> :-s
[10:45]<@BC_Programming> what?
[10:46]<PCdoc> I mean if 9.1 is releasing they may soon put windows 7 off ventilator support
[10:46]<PCdoc> 9 *
[10:46]<@jacky> too late
[10:46]<@jacky> things happen fast
[10:47]<@jacky> up to 9.2 now
[10:48]<@BC_Programming> Win7 Extended support goes to January 14, 2020
[10:48]<@jacky> extended?
[10:48]<@jacky> is that a paid thing?
[10:48]<@BC_Programming> analogous to the support that is ending for XP
[10:49]<@BC_Programming> XP's mainstream support ended in 2009 already
[10:49]<@jacky> shows you what I know
[10:49]<@jacky> what have they been doing since 2009 ?
[10:50]<@BC_Programming> security updates are part of the extended lifecycle
[10:50]<@jacky> ok
[10:50]<@jacky> when does 'mainstream' support for Win7 end?
[10:50]<+camerongray> Wow - Everything here is next day
[10:50]<@BC_Programming> 2018
[10:50]<+camerongray> XP just needs to die!
[10:51]<@jacky> BC_Programming: ok
[10:51]<@BC_Programming> yeah next day here only applies if I buy from staples or whatever, TigerDirect's warehouses are in Ontario so it has to come across the country
[10:51]<@jacky> camerongray: here, depends on how far it must travel
[10:51]<@jacky> unless you pay extra
[10:51]<+camerongray> yeah
[10:51]<+camerongray> Had to install XP on an old box for my auntie - I felt dirty!
[10:51]<+camerongray> At least this is to just replace her dead PC as a word processor - She uses an iPad for most stuff
[10:51]<@jacky> BC_Programming: camerongray's "cross country" is a short hop, for you and me. :)
[10:52]<+camerongray> haha
[10:52]<+camerongray> Think my laptop took 6 days from the factory in China :P
[10:52]<@jacky> :)
[10:52]<@jacky> wow
[10:53]<@jacky> you sent money to China?
[10:53]<+camerongray> lol
[10:53]<+camerongray> I trust Lenovo :P
[10:53]<@jacky> where are they?
[10:54]<+camerongray> China
[10:54]<+camerongray> Well, I bought it from the UK site
[10:54]<+camerongray> It was a custom build though so was shipped directly from the factory
[10:55]<@jacky> <+camerongray> Well, I bought it from the UK site <<< maybe that gives you more security
[10:55]<+camerongray> Yeah, same as buying from any other UK store
[10:56]<@jacky> ah. so.
[10:56]<@jacky> hehe
[10:56]<+camerongray> Same thing as buying from Dell or Apple where they customise and ship straight from the factory
[10:57]<@jacky> cool
[11:07] * PCdoc (PCdoc@2DB2BF8E.D82DAAE8.EE292452.IP) Quit (Quit: Leaving)

[16:41]<Quantos> Heya guys
[16:41]<@BC_Programming> hey Quantos
[16:42]<Quantos> Hey, do you include reading Cyrillic amongst your many talents?
[16:42]<@BC_Programming> I don't think so
[16:42]<Quantos> LOL, neither can I
[16:43]<Quantos> Some russian looking for a driver
[16:43]<@BC_Programming> I ordered those PC components finally today :D
[16:43]<Quantos> Cool
[16:43]<Quantos> Gonna get the build underway then?
[16:43]<@BC_Programming> I had to reduce the 4GB graphics card to a 2GB one, I was like 10 cents short
[16:43]<Quantos> When do they arrive?
[16:43]<@BC_Programming> 25th is the estimated delivery date
[16:44]<Quantos> 11 days?
[16:44]<Quantos> Snail mail?
[16:44]<@BC_Programming> well they can't be E-mailed
[16:44]<Quantos> I oculd deliver them faster on my mountain bike I think, maybe not much faster though
[16:44]<Quantos> :D
[16:44]<Quantos> could*
[16:45]<@BC_Programming> It might be a very conservative estimate, like "estimated latest possible date" type thing
[16:45]<Quantos> Yeah, most companies do that
[16:45]<Quantos> Unless you pay the exorbitant sums for 'next day'
[16:45]<@BC_Programming> I know with my previous build it said everything would arrive on a specific date but I thnk they all came before that date, and the case was somehow a few days ahead
[16:46]<@BC_Programming> I could have paid around 70 extra dollars for express which would make it the 20th
[16:46]<Quantos> I can think of better things to do with 70 bucks
[16:46]<+camerongray> Hey Quantos
[16:46]<Quantos> Dinner with the gf for example
[16:46]<Quantos> Heya Cam
[16:46]<@BC_Programming> I think their warehouse is in Ontario, thus the extra time
[16:47]<Quantos> Yeah, that might do it
[16:47]<Quantos> Probably coming out by truck too
[16:47]<Quantos> Maybe rail
[16:48]<+camerongray> BC_Programming: You'll be fine with 2gb - I have 3gb but 2x 1440p monitors
[16:48]<+camerongray> What limits me is the GPU itself (Radeon 7950), not the memory
[16:49]<Quantos> I can't imagine a card with that much memory, I've got 512 running 2x 1080
[16:50]<@BC_Programming> mine has 512GB 9800GT
[16:50]<+camerongray> What I find funny are the junk cards like the GeForce 610 but with 4gb memory purely to sell it to inexperienced people
[16:50]<Quantos> Yeah, mines kind of a joke too, it's the 405
[16:50]<Quantos> but it's all I need for now
[16:51]<+camerongray> YEah - Don't need much if you aren't gaming
[16:51]<@BC_Programming> is that newer than a 9800GT?
[16:51]<+camerongray> I don't really need my 7950
[16:51]<Quantos> I can still play COD4 on Linux in low with it, not bad I guess
[16:51]<Quantos> But she does get warm
[16:51]<+camerongray> In other news, good job for going NVIDIA - This Radeon is a great card but the drivers are horiffic (especially for linux)
[16:51]<@BC_Programming> oh... I guess it's not as powerful as the 9800GT at least... their naming is so screwed up IMO
[16:53]<@BC_Programming> my GPU is currently idling at 81c
[16:53]<+camerongray> Jeez
[16:53]<@BC_Programming> been like that as long as I remember
[16:54]<Quantos> My little 405 is idling at 64C
[16:54]<+camerongray> The other day I found my laptop had been running at 800MHz all the time!
[16:54]<+camerongray> Wondered why it was a bit sluggish
[16:54]<@BC_Programming> I had to repaste it because it was causing problems running games, used to idle around 91 when I first bought it
[16:54]<Quantos> I can't get mine to step down
[16:54]<Quantos> I guess it's better than not stepping up though
[16:55]<@BC_Programming> thought I'm not sure if I trust the temps since it also says my case temperature is 81 degrees as well as 0 degrees
[16:56]<Quantos> Oh yeah?
[16:56]<@BC_Programming> and my "fan3" is apparently spinning at 30240RPM
[16:56]<+camerongray> haha
[16:56]<Quantos> I've got a grinder that doesn't spin that fast
[16:56]<+camerongray> I sorted my laptop eventually after mucking around with stuff in Linux
[16:57]<+camerongray> Does show how good modern chips are though that it ran well enough not to be noticable when clocked at 800MHz
[16:57]<Quantos> Yeah, impressive
[16:57]<+camerongray> And new Haswell chips support such a low power mode that some PSUs can't cope
[16:57]<@BC_Programming> which is 504 revolutions per second, it's 10cm diameter so the speed of the edge of the fan would be going around 1.5 kilometers per second if that was accurate
[16:58]<Quantos> That's faster than a F1 I believe
[16:58]<+camerongray> My friend built a PC for his mum with a great Seasonic PSU but had to turn off the lowest power state as the PSU would shut down when the CPU entered it
[16:59]<@BC_Programming> yes it's a bit faster than a race car, 1.5 kilometers per second is around 5400 Kilometers per hour
[16:59]<Quantos> Yeah, I just calculated that
[17:00]<Quantos> Can you hear yourself type over the sonic boom?
[17:00]<@BC_Programming> speedfan also says my -12 is -16v and my -5 is -8 so I think it's a bit screwed up
[17:01]<Quantos> Ah, I run Psensor on Linux, it seems pretty accurate
[17:01]<+camerongray> Wonder what my temps are
[17:01]<Quantos> Seems being the operative word
[17:01]<@BC_Programming> I know they are accurate in the BIOS at least
[17:01]<+camerongray> Should check more often - Especially being overclocked with a liquid cooler
[17:03]<Quantos> Check out Psensor Cam
[17:03]<@BC_Programming> my graphics card is a relic of a company that went out of business like a week after I bought the card
[17:03]<Quantos> LOL,
[17:04]<@BC_Programming> BFGTech
[17:04]<+camerongray> Ahh thanks
[17:04]<Quantos> I wish MSI would go under....
[17:04] * Kevin (Mibbit@mib-D354AB5.dhcp.aldl.mi.charter.com) Quit (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)
[17:05]<@BC_Programming> My K6-2 would get to 100 degrees celsius sometimes, that was fun
[17:05]<Quantos> Mmmm, cooking eggs eh?
[17:05]<@BC_Programming> found out later when I upgraded it to a 450Mhz for no reason that it was because it's thermal pad was now a layer of dust
[17:05]<Quantos> Geez
[17:05]<Quantos> I hate those thermal pads, give me paste any day of the week
[17:06]<+camerongray> Nice! From what I can tell my GPU is at 30c and my CPU is around 35c
[17:06]<+camerongray> Mostly idle
[17:06]<Quantos> Just like you then, mostly idle :D
[17:06] * Quantos ducks
[17:06]<+camerongray> haha!
[17:07]<@BC_Programming> Oh here's a question, when I put this build together I felt like I was going to snap he motherboard trying to secure the CPU cooler, are the fasteners still a pain like that?
[17:07]<Quantos> Some of them are
[17:07]<+camerongray> They are quite stiff yeah
[17:07]<+camerongray> Also depends on the cooler
[17:07]<Quantos> I don't know why they can't come up with LIF or ZIF configuration for them
[17:08]<+camerongray> For me it's more the creak from the arm on the CPU socket
[17:08]<@BC_Programming> hopefully I remember to put the RAM in this time
[17:08]<Quantos> LOL
[17:08]<@BC_Programming> when I First built this one I had it all together and it didn't boot and I thought I had ruined it
[17:08]<@BC_Programming> "let's see what could be wrong- these unopened RAM packages are in my way"
[17:09]<@BC_Programming> installed the RAM and it booted just fine which was cool
[17:09]<Quantos> That's hilarious
[17:10]<+camerongray> I have forgotten to plug the PC into the wall before :P
[17:10]<@BC_Programming> well actually I was puzzling over it and I noticed I hadn't opened the RAM which rather solved my mystery
[17:10]<+camerongray> So happy I found a retailer that does Seasonic OEM PSUs
[17:10]<Quantos> I forgot to flip the PSU switch before
[17:10]<+camerongray> Ahh yeah
[17:10]<+camerongray> Only thing that would be better would be if they did 250w Seasonic units
[17:11]<Quantos> It was when they first came out with them, I thought it was the 110/220 switch
[17:11]<+camerongray> Ahh yeah
[17:11]<+camerongray> My mum made that mistake - Brand new PC out of the box, cost a fortune - Blew it up :P
[17:11]<+camerongray> Took the HDD with it
[17:12]<Quantos> Then I put my glasses on and read the stupid thing
[17:12]<Quantos> Don't do a build if you can't see, it takes a while
[17:12]<+camerongray> haha
[17:12]<@BC_Programming> ahh yes over there the voltage switch is a "don't blow up" or "blow up" affair
[17:12]<+camerongray> Thankfully no good units have those switches now
[17:12]<@BC_Programming> over here it just doesn't work
[17:12]<+camerongray> Yep!
[17:13]<@BC_Programming> I actually just found in my GPC logs when I was building this machine
[17:13]<+camerongray> The electricity in the US and canada scares me
[17:13]<@BC_Programming> why
[17:13]<Quantos> ??
[17:13]<+camerongray> Your outlet especially - When I was in the US my MacBook charger was regularly falling out of the wall
[17:13]<+camerongray> And even when it was in, the pins were exposed
[17:14]<Quantos> My grandpa used to say that it's a poor musician that blames the instrument :D
[17:14]<+camerongray> haha
[17:14]<@BC_Programming> well he's not palying music with the outlet
[17:14]<+camerongray> Everything here has an earth pin, even if it's not used
[17:14]<+camerongray> The pin is used to open shutters that block the live and neutral terminals when they aren't in use
[17:15]<+camerongray> Only disadvantage is when you stand on our plugs - they tend to lie with the pins facing up
[17:15]<Quantos> How are you supposed to put a key in the outlet that way?
[17:15]<+camerongray> haha
[17:15]<@BC_Programming> yeah I think the non-grounded connection is still "possible" because a lot of older stuff doesn't have a ground terminal
[17:15]<Quantos> Kids everywhere are dissappointed
[17:15]<@BC_Programming> and apparently we really need our TV sets from half a decade ago
[17:16]<+camerongray> Oh yeah, and virtually all outlets are individually switched - No idea how I could cope without that :P
[17:16]<Quantos> Do you mean GFP?
[17:17]<@BC_Programming> July 29th 2009: "<@BC_Programming> hmm, say, what game should I try out when I get this new build finished?"
[17:17]<Quantos> Or one breaker per outlet/
[17:17]<Quantos> ?
[17:20]<@BC_Programming> heh reading logs from 5 years ago
[17:20]<+camerongray> Just an on/off switch
[17:20]<@BC_Programming> ooh that's pretty nifty
[17:20]<+camerongray> lol - Completely normal for me :P
[17:20]<+camerongray> You do get ones with RCDs in them as well
[17:36]<+camerongray> I need to find a better laptop for testing stuff
[17:37]<@BC_Programming> what stuff?
[17:37]<+camerongray> Just different OSs, random programs I don't trust and then when it's not doing that - Run Windows for Windows stuff
[17:38]<@BC_Programming> yeah but when you get another thing you could use for testing it will always end up being used for something else
[17:38]<+camerongray> lol
[17:38]<+camerongray> I currently have one of these, but it's horrible: http://www.techradar.com/reviews/pc-mac/laptops-portable-pcs/laptops-and-netbooks/hp-probook-4515s-620700/review
[17:38]<@BC_Programming> "I could use this laptop to control the serial interface for the toilet seat"
[17:38]<+camerongray> I seriously can't type on it
[17:39]<@BC_Programming> those types of pseudo-chiclet keys are weird
[17:39]<+camerongray> Yeah
[17:39]<+camerongray> And as it has a numpad, everything is off center
[17:39]<+camerongray> And the touchpad buttons only click at the bottom edge
[17:40]<@BC_Programming> http://www.pakvisit.com/classimages/7228.jpg Mine
[17:40]<+camerongray> Also oddly, the air intake is through the keyboard - Great for spills and crumbs!
[17:40]<Quantos> Mine looks a lot like a pizza box with a broken usb keyboard taped to it....
[17:40]<+camerongray> Ahh yeah
[17:40]<@BC_Programming> a laptop with a numpad is rather unusual
[17:40]<+camerongray> Yeah. my mum has one but it's 17"3
[17:40]<+camerongray> She basically wanted a portable desktop
[17:41]<Quantos> Just bolt a handle onto the chasis then
[17:41]<+camerongray> haha
[17:41]<+camerongray> It gets moved around the house a lot but never really taken anywhere
[17:42]<+camerongray> Put an SSD in of course :P
[17:42]<@BC_Programming> my laptop hasn't moved for a long time
[17:42]<@BC_Programming> haven't used the battery for even longer
[17:45]<@BC_Programming> Did you hear about the man who was hospitalized and it was discovered he had 6 plastic horses up his butt? Doctors described his condition as Stable.
[17:45]<+camerongray> hahaha!
[17:45]<+camerongray> Come to think of it, I need to go and bring my MacBook home - been sitting in my drawer at work for months!
[17:45]<Quantos> Did you hear about the constipated mathematician?
[17:46]<Quantos> He worked it out with a pencil
[17:46]<+camerongray> Bad mental image there
[17:47]<Quantos> Yeah, you can thank me for that later ;)
[17:47]<+camerongray> I'm great at saying things without thinking of what they would sound like out of context
[17:48]<Quantos> I never think, I like to be just as surprised as those around me by what comes out of my mouth
[17:48]<@BC_Programming> isn't putting cut flowers in water sort of a form of slow torture
[17:48]<+camerongray> We now have a quote sheet of out of context things that we've said at uni
[17:48]<@BC_Programming> "just kill me" the carnations screamed
[17:49]<+camerongray> My favorite being from me (on IRC) - "Want to poke before bowling?"
[17:49]<@BC_Programming> "why must you prolong our deaths"
[17:49]<@BC_Programming> bahahaha
[17:49]<+camerongray> I was referring to "poking" the rack of servers we work on
[17:49]<Quantos> LOL
[17:49]<Quantos> I can see where that's going
[17:50]<+camerongray> Most of these can't even be posted here :P
[17:50]<Quantos> That's because I'm so sensitive...
[17:51]<@BC_Programming> I'm more sensitive afterwards
[17:51]<Quantos> LOL
[17:51]<@BC_Programming> what are we talking about?
[17:51]<Quantos> Not that
[17:51]<@BC_Programming> I was talking about after doing taxes, I'm more sensitive to finances
[17:52]<@BC_Programming> obviously
[17:52] * Quantos has his mind in the gutter
[17:52]<+camerongray> Oh, someone added counts to this spreadsheet
[17:52]<+camerongray> My "calamity count" is infinity
[17:52]<+camerongray> Probably true
[17:53]<Quantos> Little Johnny goes home one day and tells his Dad that he had sex at school, the father is all impressed and takes Johnny out for Pizza
[17:53]<+camerongray> hehe
[17:53]<Quantos> The next day Johnny comes home and his Dad asks him if he's had sex again, Johnny says 'No, my bum still hurts from yesterday'
[17:54]<+camerongray> Well then :P
[17:54]<@BC_Programming> That school needs better chairs
[17:54]<Quantos> I think I need to find my meds....
[17:54]<+camerongray> BC_Programming: best response ever!
[17:56]<+camerongray> I should go to sleep
[17:57]<+camerongray> My Auntie is dropping her laptop off "In the morning"
[17:57]<+camerongray> No idea of a time
[17:57]<+camerongray> And considering I never normally see the morning...
