[12:42]<+camerongray> Hey Calum
[12:43]<+camerongray> Happy New Year.etc
[12:43]<@Calum> same to you :)
[12:44]<+camerongray> Do you go mental for New Year or is it just us?
[12:45]<@Calum> heh, I don't bother, most people do go and get horrendously drunk for it though
[12:45]<+camerongray> Ahh
[12:45]<+camerongray> Edinburgh goes insane for it
[12:45]<+camerongray> Posted a video of the fireworks from the Castle on Facebook
[12:46]<+camerongray> Never seen such a steady, well filmed video before :P
[12:46]<@Calum> ah cool, I'll have a look later
[12:46]<@Calum> lol
[12:46]<@BC_Programming> Not sure why. "let us celebrate another integral value of revolutions of our planet around the sun based on a completely arbitrary zero point"
[12:46]<@Calum> heh
[12:47]<+camerongray> Well, in Scotland anything that can be used as an excuse to drink, eat run around the city in kilts and blow stuff up will be celebrated
[12:47]<+camerongray> And we were fairly civilised!
[12:49]<+camerongray> As you can imagine - The Informatics New Years party was pretty mental... LD
[12:49]<+camerongray> :D*
[12:49]<+camerongray> Lost count of how many Pizzas we had
[12:52]<+camerongray> Oh, And I went to Tesco around 6pm or so - It was completely mental!
[12:53]<@Calum> I can imagine
[12:53]<+camerongray> The alcohol isle was just crammed with people, I couldn't even get in and the queue (for the 15 self service checkouts) ran completely around the store
[12:53]<@Calum> wow
[12:53]<@Calum> 15 self service checkouts?
[12:53]<@Calum> that Tesco must be the size of a city
[12:53]<+camerongray> Yeah - And 2 manned ones :P
[12:54]<+camerongray> Nah - It's one of the Metro ones!
[12:54]<+camerongray> They just replaced all the regular checkouts
[12:54]<@Calum> crazy, the Tesco "superstore" near my parents has like 20 normal checkouts and only 4 self service
[12:54]<+camerongray> Gave up and went to a different Tesco where I got stuck behind someone who sat arguing that she looked over 25
[12:54]<+camerongray> Ahh yeah
[12:54]<+camerongray> Probably doing it here to save staff costs
[12:54]<@Calum> the Sainsbury's near us has 8 self service but for some reason they always close 4 of them, I've never seen all 8 open at the same time
[12:55]<+camerongray> Staff must have been told to "Wear tartan for new year" - Either that or the guy stacking shelves in a tartan onesie had just lost it completely!
[12:55]<@Calum> lol
[12:56]<+camerongray> They opened a new Sainsbury's here - Really strange - You park under the store which is on stilts then they have a sort of escilator for trolleys
[12:56]<@Calum> ah yeah there's a Tesco near here like that, really weird
[12:56]<@Calum> the thing I hate about Sainsbury's is the trolleys lock in place on those things, "travelators" as they call them
[12:57]<@Calum> they go so damn slow, really winds me up
[12:57]<+camerongray> Issue for me is as I don't drive I'm limited to a Tesco Metro and an Express
[12:57]<@Calum> ah
[12:57]<+camerongray> Lidl is good as well though
[12:57]<@Calum> we don't have an Aldi or Lidl anywhere nearby, which sucks
[12:58]<+camerongray> Yeah
[12:58]<+camerongray> I have one within walking distance
[12:58]<+camerongray> Doesn't always attract the best sort of customers though :P
[12:58]<@Calum> hah yeah
[12:58]<@Calum> we have a B&M nearby which is an awesome store, but yeah, same problem, full of idiots/chavs/scum
[12:59]<+camerongray> Ahh yeah, same with Poundland
[12:59]<@BC_Programming> I need to write a program that does my work for me
[13:02]<+camerongray> Ahh - We don't have any B&Ms here
[13:02]<+camerongray> We have Home Bargains though which is similar I think
[13:03]<+camerongray> They even have one of those self adhesive policemen stuck on the window :P
[13:03]<@Calum> yeah same sort of thing, we have one of those too
[13:04]<@Calum> can get some awesome bargains
[13:04]<+camerongray> Ahh, I've never really been
[13:04]<+camerongray> I tend to live in Poundland though
[13:07]<@BC_Programming> We have igloo repair shops
[13:07]<+camerongray> lol
[13:08]<@BC_Programming> and Moose repellent
[13:08]<+camerongray> haha
[13:09]<+camerongray> We have far too many "souvineer" shops
[13:09]<@BC_Programming> ahh yes
[13:10]<@BC_Programming> over here we call them liquor stores
[13:10]<+camerongray> haha
[13:10]<+camerongray> The ones here don't really do alcohol
[13:12]<+camerongray> More like stuff like shortbread, hats with ginger hair coming out of them, "I <3 Scotland/Edinburgh" T-Shirts and completely legit 'kilts' for £20 that all the Americans seem to love so they can run around shouting "OMG I'm so Scottish"
[13:12]<@BC_Programming> "That's not possible! I understood what you said"
[13:12]<+camerongray> lol!
[13:12]<+camerongray> They also seem to like blaring really bad quality bagpipe music out into the streets
[13:13]<@BC_Programming> bagpipes are like accordions, they should require a license and training to play
[13:13]<+camerongray> hahaha - exactly!
[13:13]<+camerongray> I don't mind them, as long as they are played properly!
[13:13]<+camerongray> We also have a mental number of "American Candy" stores
[13:14]<@BC_Programming> Accordions are like giant harmonicas
[13:14]<+camerongray> The souvineer shops are starting to get annoying - FAR too many of them!
[13:15]<+camerongray> All owned by the same people as well!
[13:15]<@BC_Programming> haha
[13:15]<@BC_Programming> it's a chain!
[13:15]<+camerongray> I'm talking several in one street!
[13:16]<@BC_Programming> starbucks souvenirs
[13:16]<+camerongray> lol!
[13:18]<+camerongray> Couple of weeks ago I was on the bus, never before have I had to refrain from getting up and calling other passengers idiots - I overheard "Going to get <name> a kilt for his graduation, all those shops are run by Asians now, such a shame" - These people where local as well
[13:19]<+camerongray> Had to mumble "Those are the stupid tourist shops, not the real ones" under my breath :P
[13:21]<+camerongray> The council are actually working on stopping new stores like that from opening
[13:21]<+camerongray> You sometimes get 2 opposite on another!
[13:24]<@Calum> ah man why is public transport so expensive :(
[13:25]<+camerongray> Ahh yes, you aren't in Edinburgh :P
[13:25]<+camerongray> £1.50 any distance
[13:25]<@Calum> moving somewhere really close by, a whole 2 extra stops on the train, guess how much extra per month?
[13:25]<+camerongray> No idea, a lot?
[13:26]<@Calum> nearly double
[13:26]<+camerongray> Jeez!
[13:26]<@Calum> goes from £127.50 to £226
[13:26]<+camerongray> OUCH!
[13:26]<+camerongray> Why are you moving?
[13:26]<@Calum> we're not any more :( can't afford it
[13:26]<+camerongray> Ahh
[13:26]<@Calum> my uncle offered to rent us a 3 bed semi for the same as we pay for this flat
[13:26]<+camerongray> Ahh, that sucks!
[13:26]<@Calum> would've been awesome but the travel isn't feasible
[13:27]<@Calum> it would also take me about 45 minutes extra per day to travel there and back, which is no good
[13:27]<@Calum> It already takes me an hour and a half
[13:28]<+camerongray> Ahh yeah
[13:28]<@Calum> but yeah with Cassie not able to work, we just couldn't afford it anyway, it would've been perfect
[13:28]<+camerongray> Yeah
[13:28]<+camerongray> We need to find a new flat - Not easy up here :P
[13:28]<@Calum> yeah I can imagine
[13:29]<+camerongray> This one is okay but pretty damp and letting agent are useless
[13:29]<@Calum> yeah I remember you saying
[13:29]<+camerongray> Also has to be HMO licenced so it can be shared between more than 2 people
[13:29]<+camerongray> Which cuts out all the nice ones!
[13:29]<@Calum> ah right
[13:55]<+camerongray> Currently laughing at DB trying to explain something he has no understanding of
[13:55]<@Calum> life?
[13:55]<+camerongray> I've discovered it's much more fun to watch rather than trying to interrupt him
[13:56]<@Calum> what's he struggling with this time?
[13:56]<+camerongray> "Intel's website says that processor is Wi-Di compatible. Will this alone mean that laptop will be Wi-Di compatible?"
[13:56]<+camerongray> All he's doing is posting information pages about Wi-Di :P
[13:56]<@Calum> heh
[13:56]<@BC_Programming> Wi Di?
[13:57]<@Calum> Wireless Display I think
[13:57]<@Calum> someone asked me about it at work and I dismissed it as witchcraft and refused to get involved
[13:57]<+camerongray> lol!
[13:57]<@Calum> I don't like wireless anything
[13:58]<+camerongray> Yeah, same - All my PCs use ethernet
[13:58]<+camerongray> Even my flatmates now use Ethernet on their desktops after my begging :P
[13:58]<@Calum> heh
[14:00]<@Calum> Cassie showed me the PC her cousin bought....I feel violently ill, it's disgusting
[14:00]<@Calum> she wanted an Alienware and got something that's somehow worse
[14:04]<@BC_Programming> Farmerware
[14:04]<@Calum> VIBOX
[14:04]<@BC_Programming> "we're frequently visited when drunk, by alienware -farmerware
[14:04]<@Calum> heh
[14:06]<+camerongray> Oh dear
[14:06]<+camerongray> What spec?
[14:07]<@Calum> Bulldozer quad, 8GB Vengeance RAM, 260X, CX600 PSU, awful terrible horrible tacky POS case, Corsair SSD and a HDD
[14:07]<@Calum> £750
[14:07]<+camerongray> Excuse me while I cry
[14:07]<@Calum> https://www.vibox.co.uk/promotions/vibox-envy-extreme
[14:08]<@Calum> look at the photos
[14:08]<@Calum> cry at how the SATA cables aren't connected
[14:08]<+camerongray> *puke*
[14:08]<@Calum> the GPU fan is on, with the lights, as the CPU fan is motionless
[14:08]<@Calum> half the mobo screws aren't in
[14:08]<+camerongray> wow
[14:08]<@Calum> the cable management is awful and they're even using white cable tie bases on a black case
[14:08]<+camerongray> Can't he return it?
[14:08]<+camerongray> Kick up a stink about the screws
[14:09]<@Calum> no no no...I was talking about their promo pics
[14:09]<@BC_Programming> Well, imma start looking for another Job
[14:09]<@BC_Programming> I can tell you for a fact we are going to be screwed come April
[14:09]<+camerongray> BC_Programming: Oh?
[14:09]<@Calum> I have no idea what their actual PC is like heh, but if their promo pics show a system that isn't even built properly, their general build quality is almost certainly worse
[14:10]<@BC_Programming> It just be because the lead dev is on a two week vacation but all of a sudden everything is supposed to work differently
[14:10]<+camerongray> Ahh - OUCH!
[14:10]<+camerongray> BC_Programming: Ahh
[14:10]<+camerongray> BC_Programming: Keep going at it though
[14:10]<@BC_Programming> not to mention obsessing about about the fact that passwords are being stored in the configuration database
[14:10]<+camerongray> Ahh
[14:11]<@BC_Programming> We want a SINGLE username and password to login, that's the only way since there are like 3 sets of usernames and passwords that need to be passed, so I put them in a configuration database behind that main password
[14:11]<@BC_Programming> if somebody can get those passwords, they already know the configuration password, so it shouldn't be a big deal
[14:11]<@BC_Programming> apparently, it is... which is interesting since right now absolutely everything literally passed username and passwords via the command line...
[14:12]<+camerongray> So just keep going at your current one and look for other jobs in the meantime?
[14:12]<@Calum> oops I gotta go...only got like an hour's sleep last night and I need more for tomorrow, catch you later
[14:12] * Calum (Mibbit@mib-6373825A.cable.virginm.net) Quit (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)
[14:12]<@BC_Programming> my point is that we'll be screwed come April
[14:12]<@BC_Programming> for one thing I've basically had no idea what I'm supposed to be doing for the last week and a half
[14:13]<@BC_Programming> All I know is what I was doing needs to be changed to support a bunch of things I've never ever used and for which I can not squeeze anything out of anybody else
[14:13]<+camerongray> Ahh
[14:13]<+camerongray> Keep going though :P
[14:15]<@BC_Programming> pretty sure it's because the lead is on vacation
[14:15]<@BC_Programming> I'd be surprised if anybody had a damned clue what they needed to do without him
[14:19]<+camerongray> Yeah, sounds like it
[14:19]<+camerongray> Hopefully things will get better once he gets back
[14:19]<+camerongray> have you explained to anyone higher up?
[14:20]<@BC_Programming> No
[14:20]<@BC_Programming> I didn't say anything when I considered quitting a few weeks after I started
[14:20]<@BC_Programming> and that passed
[14:22]<@BC_Programming> I do have misc bug fixes in older WOs to tend to though
[14:22]<@BC_Programming> not to mention a HUGE 40-hr plus estimated one for a certain report
[15:11]<jamer> https://www.vibox.co.uk/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/r/e/rear_3_2.jpg wtf is this
[15:12]<+camerongray> Nothing seriously wrong at the back :P
[15:12]<jamer> they arent even smart enough to use the internal usb port?
[15:12]<jamer> i hate having cords do that
[15:13]<+camerongray> They could have probably used an adapter yeah, but their crappy case obviously wants a regular port and they are too cheap for the little adapter :P
[15:13]<@BC_Programming> So now I have some stuff that Intellisense is marking red, because I changed another class
[15:13]<@BC_Programming> so I changed it to use the new definition
[15:14]<@BC_Programming> now Intellisense is all happy and everything is fine, but it won't build lol
[15:14]<@BC_Programming> "Does not contain a definition for 'X'" and yet intellisense happily takes me straight to that definition...
[15:15]<jamer> the motherboard has a usb on it .... wow ....
[15:16]<jamer> the pci card is bending like the cases isnt even designed to be even used
[15:17]<@BC_Programming> 600 build errors wtf
[15:17]<+camerongray> The bending isn't serious for a heavy card
[15:18]<+camerongray> Just a very over priced machine for what it is
